I vote T6 in the right of way on this. Where is the radio com?? I just hear AC/DC. I bet you are the helicopter pilot who fucked up royally, and didn't announce your "where". Who Where What. Chapt. 7 in the Jefferson Pilots Handbook.
For all you non pilots out there.......Landing. Aircraft, while on final approach to land or while landing, have the right-of-way over other aircraft in flight or operating on the surface (FAR Sec. 91.113)
MegaBuckBuck1 is correct. If you google "NTSB Aviation Accident Database" and put in the N-number of the helicopter (N226ap) you can get the report. "The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
Both pilot's failure to see and avoid the other aircraft."
obviously someone wasn't listening to the radio call when mr. heli was departing... The pilot of a T-6G said that she announced that they were departing. Well they must have ignored "Mr Heli's previous call" the other video she clearly states she can't even really see out of the aircraft..
Can't seem to find the "Victoria Mayzell" video footage of this accident. Really interested in seeing and hearing what actually happened... Please advise?
Yeah, well not according to the NTSB, unless you know something they don't. Also, I've known many many pilots of both rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft and I can honestly say I don't know what a "typical pilot" means.. That's like saying "typical car driver" or "typical bicycle driver"..
The NTSB report number is CEN09LA149A. The R22 reported "on the go" and then hung out for a bit over the cross on the right side of the runway. The fixed wing pilot apparently didn't see (or look at ) the R-22 and hit it from behind.
Do not post videos and edit with your own conclusion when you do not know what happened.. Obviously the heli was hit from behind..the fixed wing was at fault in my eyes...they should have cleared the area first
91.111: Don't operate your aircraft so close to another to create a hazard. 91.126: Helicopter must avoid fixed wing. The helicopter was taking off and the plane ran into the helicopter. I still don't see how either regulation puts the helicopter at fault. Read the NTSB report too, still looks like the planes fault to me. If I am wrong when the final NTSB report comes out, I'll buy ya a beer! ...and your odds are good, I'm wrong a lot, just ask my ex.
Helicopter pilot ended his operation by making a spontaneous stop and go in a non approved area for helicopter operations. When the Helicopter made his second "on the go" announcement, the T-6 ws airbourne. The Helicopter lost his "Right away" when he spontaneously made a stop on the Taxi-way, and not the runway.
I am aware of that reg but you should understand the FAA places more responsibility of avoidance with the pilot of the more maneuverable aircraft. The FAR's you should also pay particular attention to are 91.111 and 91.126. The procedures and protocol in the AIM are what the investigators pay precise attention to in their work. Read the NTSB report regarding the accident. Note the description of the helicopter pilot's use of nonstandard phraseology. Not the case for the AT-6 pilot.
Glad everyone is okay. No radio calls required at that airport. Simple fact is clear on the Victoria Mayzell youtube video: the helicopter was in front and the overtaking airplane did not clear to the right and ran into the helicopter. It does not matter how long any aircraft waits for whatever reason, other aircraft taking off should wait until they are clear to take off. Fixed wing DO NOT have the right of way over rotor wing. Google: FAR 91.113 and look at paragraph (f)
Concernedcitizen102 you are entitled to your opinion but not your own facts. The video and audio from that day speak the facts. The helicopter said at 3:45 that he was "On the go in the grass on the south side of the field right traffic for 27" "On the go" is not standard aviation phraseology. That phrase could mean many things to include hover taxi to another location, crossing runway 27, or going to the bathroom. Fixed wing aircraft have the right of way over rotor wing aircraft.
Why argue over a baby bird like a Robi 22Minor damage, mistakes will be made, no big deal as long as humans are involved=FACT!. You think this is something, try UAE pilots, Irainian pilots:)muhamed gives them their clearence:).I've never seen such a fricking free for all mess here in pakistan-G-dam!!!, you think Hong kong is bad, just wait:)
You know why irans navy deploy glass hulls? so they can see their airforce. iranian pilots=masters of the DEEP-6 MARINE, YFYD:) You Fly You Die AIR-IRAN
We call them Ryobi 22's at my airport. Used to be a lot of them before 9/11. They trained pilots that came in from japan. Those visas went away after 9/11 and the operator went TU.
3:45 seconds into the video from the airplane you hear the helicopter pilot make a radio call stating that he is getting on the runway and departing. For all who are not pilots that puts the helicopter on the runway in front of the airplane giving the helicopter the ride of way. The helicopter was on take off and was rear-ended. see the full video with the radio calls from the airplane on YouTube at "Victoria Mayzell"
After waiting for two other fixed wing aircraft to clear the runway the AT-6 pilot announced at 4:14 "Departing Rwy 27 at Weiser" The helicopter makes another radio call at 4:42 stating "on the go again" They collided at 4:45. Why was the helicopter still near the runway since he stated he was "on the go" 57 seconds earlier? Did he ignore the AT-6's departure call or did he turn his radio volume down and also neglect to look down the runway before lifting off from the taxiway?
Plus everyone knows Helicopter pilots are the worst when it comes to following the rules.

trevchar 1 year ago
@trevchar
Except in Australia, where they used it in combat. It was built under license and called the Wiraway (sp?). It downed a Zero in December of 1942.
The USAF used it in combat in Korea and the French used it in Vietnam. Many 3rd world countries used it in the combat role until the '70's.

Definitely not a fighter! Its an AT-6 Texan, Navy version would be SNJ.
dalosiman 1 year ago
A. That's not a WWII "fighter plane", nor a D6. It's a T-6 Texan trainer.
B. The damage to the aircraft is NOT fiberglass, but built of aluminum with a fabric cover.
C. The helo "6 Alpha Papa" had called "ON THE GO" minutes earlier!! Why were they still "On the GO?!" They should've been long gone by then.
D. The fault in this matter lies with BOTH pilots. This is an uncontrolled airfield utilizing CTAF. See and be seen.
If you don't know what some of the acronyms are, look em' up!
