Jesus spent time with people. Often going into the home of a stranger to share a meal. The hugs are just a way of showing that Jesus and the kids giving them care. If it opens the door to sharing the gospel then it is an even better thing. Besides, studies have shown that people need hugs. We need contact with other human beings. I think this video and what the kids did, is great.

I think the reason why your upset as well as others with negative comments, is because their are people who care about the impoverish, the prositutes, addicts, acholics and soforth. The church group did call them to repentance, but with your anger you did not see their message. The gospel is love. They'll know we are Christians by our love. By our love will they be saved. It probably peaked some interest in someone's heart, and then they came to church, and were saved.

Dude this is not bad; and it is good to be kind to people, but you would be more effective preaching the WORD to people, not saying it's bad, but it would be better spend TELLING People about Christ, and their need for His sacrifice on the Cross because we ARE Creatures of wrath for (God's death and perfect Judgement: wrath because of the wages of our sin)!
