  • @mastershake1055 I just rewatched the putting video. No argument on me looking like a tool.

Also, I've changed my stance on Feldberg since I posted that. So, thanks for enlightening me.

  • VORTEX BASKET BABY!!!

  • But in basketball there's no guarantee that if you use the backboard it's going in for sure. The chains are there to help get it in the basket below. That's the goal, not the chains.

  • DEAD IN THE MIDDLE IN THE HEART OF THE CHAINS

  • damn are his eyes chinked, love dave!

  • If you hit the pole it should be good but we have all experienced a perfect putt that hit the pole and didn't get in the bottom of the basket. With that said, the bottom of the basket is the objective not the pole.

The sport should continue to find what catches better though.

  • Then you didn't sink that putt. Period.

The object of the game is to get the disc to come to rest inside the basket. Period.

The chains and poles are an aid to that end. Period.

That is the game, play it, or do something else, but don't whine because you didn't make the highlight reel because you threw the putt too hard and it bounced out or passed through.

  • Apples to oranges comparison....in real golf if the ball comes out, you didn't make it. Spit out = bad shot.

    quit whining.

  • Its called Tones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why did we ever go to the baskets anyways???????? We changed something that was fine as it was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a round the other day that i spit out literally 17 out of 18 holes, its bullshit. I can hit the center of the chains little to the right (RHT) almost everytime, but what frustrates me is my chain outs, i get at least 2 a round.

  • @fishersurfbum Doubt it.

  • @cfloodbob play a round of disc with me then after my arm is healed. i putt a little hard i think thats why i'm so prone to spit outs

  • @fishersurfbum Tones sucked because there were too many arguments over whether there was a sound or not.

  • correct me if i am wrong...but isnt it the same way in golf? it can bounce in and out of the cup and it doesnt count. and you can hit the pin from 120 yards out and that doesnt count as well. or you can roll right over the cup. it doesnt mean they need to increase the hole size by 5 inches.

BUT!!! I do know that "splash outs" happen way more in disc golf then "bounce outs" or" role overs" in real golf

  • @tbostonfish exactly. You shouldn't be able to throw it as hard as you want and the disc still find the basket. He is talking about a perfect putt not going in because of the poorly made baskets.

  • There's no problem with the baskets and it isn't about "the luck of the game". If you disc enters the chains overly vertical, it will go through, whereas if it enters them horizontally, it will not. That's the intentional design. You don't finish the link for hitting chain, you finish the link when your disc rests in the basket. THAT'S THE GAME. There's no problem with the baskets, people have just forgotten that the objective isn't to hit chain, the objective is to get the disc into the basket.

  • @jhimm I've had putts hit the center pole horizontally of the basket and reverse back out.

  • the problem is not the configuration of the chains or the basket ( or weeds ) the problem is the links are straight . i made a 12 chain basket with twist link chain like a standard link that twists in the middle not the dog leash runner chain and it catches like gang busters each row the disc hits coils up like a snake and so far is catching better than regular chain i think.....crazy changes to the basket will never happen and it's a bad idea...some good putts miss..some bad stay in..go figure

  • dave is one smart cookie, look to him to lead dg into the future

  • I totally agree with Dave on this one; if you hit dead center chains then it go through is unfair. You have done your part by putting the disc where it needs to be, the basket should be designed to prevent these unlucky spit throughs.

  • Gateway Titan pro 24's do not spit or have cut through s

  • wow there are some retarded posts on this video....it's what happens when a bunch of dopers start defending pot.......

  • I think this is just part of the sport and what Dave is trying to explain is completely irrelevant . The baskets are fine and can not understand why he would convey this.

  • @DiscGolfMinded What he is saying is that disc golf is one of the only sports where you can do everything your supposed to do perfect, and it might still not go in.

  • Feldberg is a whiny bitch. Climo would have said oh well and kept on playing.

  • @johnwabash lol yeah right, Climo whines more than any other golfer on tour.

  • @johnwabash He didn't just come up with this because he missed one putt. He has thought about it a lot, and that's his opinion. Also, you look like a tool in your "backyard disc golf putts" video.

  • dave feldberg: shut the fuck up

  • @Fr1sbee Fr1sbee: shut the fuck up

  • you know why we don't get big corporate sponsors? Look at the image we project. For every one of us who is not out on the course getting wasted and hammering beers there are 10 that are. IMAGE IS EVERYTHING

  • i agree with what he is saying, but at the same time that is part of the sport

  • Interesting comparison to a basketball shot. Dead center in basketball = counts every time. Same with ball golf. Not so with disc golf. Maybe there's no perfect fix, but I do believe efforts can and should be made to improve chain design in a way that minimizes spit outs of otherwise perfect putts. I know... if it WAS a perfect putt then it would have stayed in. Maybe a lattice of much, much smaller chains... running horizontally... That's it! Eureka! Quick, to the workbench...

  • @ShamalAmadiNgdongEsq Not true. Hoops shots that are near perfect go in and out & off shots catch rim & go in because of backspin. Ball golf: dead center too hard goes over or pops out back rim. Leave it the way it is. There should be lip outs for less than perfect putts. Too hard should pop off pole. Extreme hyzer should go through. We could coat the chains with rubber, but that's too easy & rewards bad players. It should be hard. The game's too easy (many aces). That's why there's no respect.

  • @ShamalAmadiNgdongEsq

i made a basket with only 12 chains and it catches like gang busters even better if i put inners..they're twist links not standard links..not dog chain twist links..they're like a standard link with a curve in the middle....when the disc hits these chains it causes each row to coil up like a snake wrapping the disc..i think this is gonna be the true fix...the only other fix realistically without crazy changes to the baskets is changing the putter

  • dave is a smart dude. I was thinking that dave was just going to just rant and be an asshole, but he is awesome.

  • thats a really good point

  • I think it's a mix of the druggie/hippie/slacker/poor boy image that many of us dg players exhibit. Notice I said many, not all. All of you who argue for the merits of weed or the reasons why it's bogus to make illegal miss the point entirely. No one cares about that, the point is it's illegal NOW and is associated with criminal activity and furthermore is a crime in itself to use weed. Yes, I know, everyone smokes it. But it's wrong and selfish to do it on the course, aka bowl hole.

  • Dave its like ball golf, a ball goes in the hole and because of the energy doing it pops back out.

  • @Jodabro

Considering this is the only comment not talking about weed and actually pertaining to the video I guess I will reply to you. I agree. You can't change something so you do better. Then everyone does better and it really changes nothing. It really goes both ways. I've missed just as many "good" putts as I've made "bad" putts. So what he is suggesting is starting over, changing the thousands upon thousands of baskets out there so he can makes more putts?

  • cussing me out for having an opinion is fundamentally ignorant..i'm not completely averse to weed either, the problem is that many full-time tokers can't take the pressure of a tournament so they light up to release it, i've seen it many times. people who hate drugs will always hate disc golf by association, and that's a shame because it definitely hurts, in my opinion, the growth of a great sport...

  • @gunkelator

Weed maybe a small factor...Maybe. But I think its the money situation. There just isnt enough invested in the sport to get the greedy corporate sponsors to even look our way. I mean look at Graffiti for instance, which I have been involved with for years, they have large sponsors that host and sponsor individual artists, And graffiti is about destruction of property! But do the sponsors care about that? NO. All they care is that the artist make thousands of dollars painting.

  • And im not talking about small local sponsors, more like Sprint/Nextel,Boost mobile,Red bull and TIME magazine who paid cope2 fat cash just to paint a billboard. Do you think they give a fuck if these guys are out bombing the city or smoking up some delicious Blackberry OG kush? NO! All they care about is the money. They know that graffiti is a popular art form and their name will be seen for more attention and revenue. Thats why Disc Golf hasn't grown. Lack of funds. IMO

  • I live in MT and we obviously dont have a huge scene with disc golf but its blowing up every summer. club sprouted, couple C and B tears, etc. The sad thing is we get no local support. Every other "alternative' sport gets funding. 200,000$ skatepark, a wave park for kayakers that was thousands, two bmx warehouses, and disc golf funds seem to to be the blacksheep around here. they sterotype it and run a couple bad articles and thats all it takes to sway.

    Graff rules

  • @MurderMike41370 Where's the money from Discraft, Innova and others? The 30th most popular rec sport in the world in 1996, moved up to #4 in 1997. This is based on cash generated (and while golf, tennis and running shoes are ahead of disc, running shoes are not always used to run). So, why aren't the people who have gotten rich off the 3rd most popular sport in the world showing us the money and taking it to a higher level? I don't want x games type sponsors either.

  • @jperd420

Its because some people cant think for themselves and stop believing everything society tells them. Most people drank the kool-aid during the reagan years, man it makes me sick to my stomach.

Everybody needs to check out this documentary about why weed was made illegal and why it was a threat to the tobacco and cotton industry.

  • The Union - The Business Behind Getting Highpart 1

Just copy/paste this into the search bar, stupid fucking youtube wont let me put a link.

  • Comment removed

  • i hear from people who know (1000 rated golfers) and i guarantee it...look, just because you can't give up toking and want to defend it doesn't make it right..it absolutely does hold the sport back, it's growing at a much slower pace than it could be, and those of us who know it and don't toke would just as soon you quit toking or quit disc golf..

  • @kingofaces2001

WHO GIVES A FUCK IF THEY SMOKE WEED!? THIS ISNT THE ONLY SPORT WHERE THE PLAYERS SMOKE. WHO THE FUCK SAYS WE HAVE TO QUIT SMOKING OR QUIT DISC GOLF? FUCK YOU, YOU QUIT CAUSE YOU DONT SMOKE, HOW BOUT THAT?

  • @MurderMike41370 i'm with ya man... people are so uneducated about it and talk so much stupid shit on it

  • @kingofaces2001 I'm not defending drug use, merely pointing out that your argument is based on speculation.

  • most of the top pros are tokers from what i hear..

  • and they wonder why they only get 6000.00 for winning worlds. A big sponsor will never sign on as long as a stereotype of a discgolfer is that of a pot smoker. especially when the top guys are doing it.

  • The payscale changed, it has nothing to do with pot. More competitors cash out but prize amounts are decreased.

  • @gunkelator why dont you do a study and see how many other athletes smoke marijuana.... then maybe you will drop the hole weed thing... i am sure over 50% of each nfl team smokes... i'm so sick of non smokers cryin about people getting high... so many people do it because there is nothing wrong with it

  • @jperd420 theres nothing wrong with huh? Tell that to the guy that is in jail for killing my son while driving under the influence of being high from your precious pot. Many nfl player, baseball players etc all smoke pot but disc golfers smoke pot WHILE they are playing the sport. How many times have you seen a football player or baseball player smoke while playing ?? Never.. see the difference ? Its because the discers do it while playing which is what gives the sport the bad name .

  • @gunkelator

Im sorry about your loss. Your point on them using while playing is wrong. First of all, are we talking about televised games (NFL,MLB)? Because how many DG games are even televised? And yes I do see baseball and football players smoke, when they are playing a recreational game just like us discgolfers and not a tourney, where in fact the top pros dont smoke during sanctioned games. I know this because ive talked to Dave Feldberg during a round of golf.

  • @MurderMike41370 I have played with feldberg kallstrom.and both Readings . Smoking does not bother me as much as i am leading on. All i am saying is that it does not help the image of the sport. When i approached 3 ceos of big companies to to help sponsor pro worlds 2005 one of them said "disc golf whats that??" another ceo said "disc golf ,, is that where the winnner is whomever smokes the most in the woods?" while the third said "why should i give money to a bunch of drugged up hippies?"

  • @MurderMike41370 continued part 2

needless to say it was quite a disapointment when the pro purse for 2005 was only about 72,000. also 5000 of that came from a local club. So i am strong in my stance that the pot smoking has hurt the image of the sport.

  • @gunkelator... Professional disc golfers R not smoking weed during tournaments. This stereotype is getting really old. Don't group the touring pros w/ the course local who never plays tournaments or the casual disc golfer, they are totally different people w/ different goals. It's against the rules to drink alcohol or use drugs during PDGA events. Offenders R disqualified if they do so, and people R quick to site rules violations during tournament rounds.

  • @gunkelator While your loss is truly a terrible thing, this is misinformation about weed. I am a biochemist and weed does not impair motor activity whatsoever. Or concentration. It does not cause apathy. It has been demonized by the powers that be, when in fact it is probably--pharms included--the only drug human beings should consume (we naturally produce endocannabinoids). I'm more scared of people jazzed up on caffeine or cigs--uppers cause people to be jittery and lose motor function.

  • most of them toke from what i've heard..i guarantee a lot of the top pros are tokers,,

  • Guarantee? Have you smoked out with any pros? Neither have I...

  • Some basket designs are suspect, that's why Dave voices his opinion. Operator error has nothing to do w/ it.. that's just a stupid comment.. really stupid. The putt in this video was as close to perfect as possible, esp from that distance. A hyzer push-putt is the best putt to use, that's why all the top players and all world champs use it. How the hell are U going to make a spin putt from that spot? U can't is the answer. Am III's & newbies should not comment on World Champs techniques.

  • rob job putts are part of the sport...that putt did look pretty pure, but dave's comment that people don't understand it is ludicrous..it's not in until it's down, just accept it and move on..he should be more concerned about nikko at this point...and wamboozler is right on, get rid of the bud if you want to grow the sport, of course dave won't say that cuz he's a toker too..

  • smoke pot yes or no ? climo, feldberg, doss, jenkins, locastro, schultz

  • @gunkelator most of them do from what i've heard..i guarantee a lot of the top pros are tokers..

  • so fuckin what'

  • @kingofaces2001 what does weed have to do with the sport?... your obviously a non smoker and dont quite understand it

  • @kingofaces2001 what does weed have to do with the sport?... your obviously a non smoker and dont quite understand it

  • @mdaviar maybe you should get off daves shaft

  • the baskets are fine. instead of blaming the baskets, mabye dave shouldnt putt with the hyzer angle on his disc, then it would stick. It is a opperator error not equipment error here. quit complaining and be happy your a world champion.

  • Really? Is it like that in the states? Over here pretty much nobody has any idea what disc golf is (though it is the fastest growing sport) but there aren't any sort of generalizations as to what kind of people play it.

  • Dave has a point. We're always changing discs and their flight patterns yet we leave the same old Steady Ed style basket as is. I know some of you would rather it always be this way as a memorial but I'm sure Ed would be grateful that the sport is evolving so much that the target needs tweaking.

  • putt was left center Dave, and if it wasnt hyzering when it hit then it wouldve stuck. BUT I had the same thing happen to me today and I lost 30$ over it.

  • Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the sport but it's not the baskets that are ruining the sport. It's the stoner image. Disc golf is perceived as a pot smokin' hippie sport and until something is done to address that, disc golf will NEVER be big. I don't smoke, I don't even care if you do or don't but it ruins the image of the sport and unless that changes, media and mainstream sponsors won't touch the game.

  • Yea just like snowboarding! It will never get big either!

  • HHAHA the DICK 1-wamboozler NUTHIN

  • Cmon Dave. You needed more chain..Less schnibblin..

  • I could have missed that in a quarter of the time! Try a kingpin dave, its already been fixed.

  • I could have missed that in half the time.

  • Great interview.....Dave is totally right...that would definatly hel the sport-
