Boy sodaclub, you've given me an idea! Would you be kind enough to make another video of this clock chiming for us with the hour strike? I too would love to hear this clock strike the hour! Thanks a bunch.
Really love these types of longcase clocks! Would love to hear the hour strike on this one? Does it have a makers name? I'm in the process of buying another 20s westminster longcase! Can't beat them for resonance!
If the clock is really over 90 years old, congratulations on having an antique that still runs, and have a beutiful tone! (Westmeister chimes I love em)
Clock movements are intricate to those with no experience. However I am no stranger to the total dismantling, repair and servicing of clocks, from basic mantle clocks through to fusee bracket clocks and longcase clocks alike, and would not hesitate in correcting any fault with the chimes of this clock if there was one.
On second thought, the clock still has a nice, rich sound, even if that one chime rod is slightly off- tune. The works of a clock are very delicate and it's best to avoid messing with them if at all possible.
Thank you all for your comments, but I am perfectly happy with the tuning of the gong rods and to my ears they sound perfectly ok, and in fact when in the same room as this clock the chimes are very mellow and probably amongst some of the best I have heard from this type of clock, and I have heard quite a lot.
Would you be kind enough to make another video of this clock chiming for us? That way we can listen again and get a better idea of whether or not that chime is tuned correctly or not.
Yeah, the "g" (actually "g-flat") does sound a tad flatter than it should sound (closer to an "f"). But who knows, maybe it's the way the hammer is striking the chime rod.
