  • stroking the beardd:)

  • The cynics were awesome.

  • George Carlin once talked about the difference between Cynicism and Skepticism, saying he doesn't want to see the people being cynical, but he would like it if people were more skeptical.

  • Damn straight

  • The only way to waist your vote, is to vote.

  • @rockerbackes Not to make fun, but I did enjoy your typo. :-)

  • i love you penn

  • I totally agree with Penn on this. I am wondering however; if PJ had no hair, what would he do with his hands?.... BAAaaaahahahahaaaa

  • Power corrupts...absolute power absolutly corrupts...(george washington)

So its always been about voting for the lesser of 2 evils or the less corrupt of the corrupt..Its also about pitting power against power...checks and balances..states rights via federalization...gridlock anything to limit how many times the gov fucks us! When Gov is working well people are getting ass raped..when the Gov cant agree with it self people prosper! But make no mistake there will always be some ass rape going on

  • ...the wishes of the voters ...ie, voters for perot cost conservatives Clinton/Bush 1 election and voters for ralph nader cost liberals the Bush2/Gore election..so we are trapped with 2 turd party and that may be better the multi party systems where no one agrees and weird aliances form insane/confused european govs...that have conflicting policies (even worse then ours) again the lesser of 2 evils!

  • I believe we have to vote the lesser of 2 evils even if we disagree with most of what both candidates are saying...in a tight election not voting means you have a slightly larger chance of getting the greater of 2 evils...that is if you are on the right side of the lesser of 2 evils.

  • Why should we have to choose between to evils? Choose the candidate you want!

  • Because as I said in a tight election I could vote for candidate C because I dont like candidate A and I hate candidate B. In a tight election when it comes down to individual votes as in Florida (Bush/Gore) my Vote for Candidate C can mean the difference between getting a few of my ideas passed with cand A instead of none with cand B. All because I wanted it all with candidate C and that person really had no hope to win being a 3rd candidate..3rd party candidate have decided elections against..

  • We don't have a 2-party system. We are owned by the Federal Reserve and all of their little banking buddies. We've had both Democrats and Republicans in the White House and Senate and all of the shit that is currently wrong with our economy, our infrastructure and our involvement in wars has been done under their collective watch. They sold out the people that voted them into office, to bankers and their lobbyists. That's a fact.

  • how come he says not to vote... does he have a video on it? i dont vote anyway but still wana know

  • he isnt saying not to vote...he is saying that the individuals vote doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of things...for example bush got re-elected and for somereason the ballot from florida just *poof* disappears and no one can find it...and im sure you remember how close the polls were at that time...

  • It looks like a halo over you head. So yeah...when I'm old enough, I'm just gonna check over other party nominations to see if I can vote for them. Then yeah, after that, you're pretty much right. It's a waste voting if you're gonna be all wishy washy and opinionated. If you're not sure what they really mean, what's the point?

  • I first thought halo before you mentioned hat.

  • My generation seems to be more cynical then the previous

  • nice hair

  • I like cynicism...

  • this guy is pretty much the luckiest guy alive, he has his own show which is pretty much the pinicle of any skeptic blogger. he get's to just say his opinion on tv and everyone listens. Ill bet TAA is Jealos

  • Penn you crazy bastard... nice hat.

  • Nice hat

  • it's spelled yarmulke* and bill maher is awesome. have you seen religulous? its hilarious.

  • Sony Pictures Television. wtf ? Loved you in Penn & Teller, Offbeat, Hackers, and Bull$@#! or Not.

  • good vid ;)

  • yea it does, little white yamaka

  • Please stop fidgeting. It's distracting me...I can't watch. ;-p

  • The only way to wast your vote is to vote for who you think will win rather then who you believe in.

  • im eatingan entire phonebook that is new

  • Grr, spelling. I meant "illuminating".

  • Yes Penn, the duct does look like a hat from that angle.

It's as if the Mothers of Invention took on Dr. Seuss.

I never thought of you as a cynic. Cynicism tends to be the final refuge of those without a cognitive idea.

You are far more of a skeptic than a cynic. It's good to question the status quo.

Kudos to geezzerboy for illuminationg the proper distinction. Nice to see an oasis of intelligence in these times.

  • you, cynic, you!

  • The Cynics were a legitimate School of Greek Philosophy. Diogenes was a cynic. It has unfortunately acquired an undeserved pejorative connotation. The cynics liked to point out the absurdities of human behavior in a humorous way. George Carlin was the last great cynic. Lewis Black may one day fill his shoes. However, I don't think a Randist could ever understand the true nature of cynicism, they never truly laugh at themselves.

  • Believe me, Penn, I understand your overwhelming skepticism of all government. I know that governing bodies exist essentially only to gather more power, but I don't understand the faith in corporations, nor do I understand people's faith in the eventuality of either anarcho-capitalism or anarcho-communism. I see both companies and governments as Machiavellian organizations with an interest in hurting whoever they think they can get away with to get more power, but I see people as too primitive

  • to be trusted to exist without a governing body. In short, I have no faith in entities, and yes, that includes God. I'm just wondering, how can anyone keep their faith in anything? Optimism seems, to me, to be the irrational position. The only thing I actually strive for is truth, however, truth seems to be a commodity that is hard to come by these days, what with postmodernists and biased mainstream media orgs and disinformation spread across the internet by "little people."

  • How can we find truth when there are crazy academians insisting it doesn't even exist, media organizations which only talk about a very narrow range of viewpoints, and random individuals with no particular ties to any establishments that love to spread stupid notions like the "Obama's a Muslim" meme. The only things that I can put some trust in are mathematics, the peer reviewed scientific process, and my own mind.

  • It did look like a hat, by the way.

  • Why the fake shaky camera effect? Where do you find a camera these days without a digital stabilizer? Little Chrissy "leave Britney alone" Crocker's videos made under a blanket were smoother and better lit than this two years ago. Sad when a slick show biz pro has to work so hard to convince his working class audience he's one of them. You didn't have to waste time telling them to not vote. Penn & Teller faithful spend all their free time hoisting up their gunt and looking for their dick.

  • you should do a bullshit episode on the Republican/Democratic cheech and chong machine

  • the only ppl who agree with those are the hard leftt and the hard right playing the party line

  • Well it did look like a hat, and an elegant one at that.

  • Did Obama really say, "I want to make the government bigger?" Did he really use those words?

Because if he did then I would very much like to see a link to a transcript of that speech...

  • No deduction from you huh? No one comes out and says that. But he wants to make new departments and expand the government's role in people's lives. Universal healthcare is one, which means there will have to be an agency to regulate it...which means...a bigger government.

  • How about that, a bigger government? Guess he didn't need to say the word "bigger government". He also wants another new agency: a "civilian security force with the same spending budget as the military". Thats not the exact quote but its fairly close. People don't come out and SAY these things.

  • You know, cars have become a lot safer over the generations. They have improved buffer zones, air bags, seat belts... But that doesn't mean they've become bigger. (Well, in the US they have, but not elsewhere.)

So taking the analogy of an old, unsafe, vintage car versus a modern one, why would including more safety features have to make something bigger?

You trust your government with nukes but you don't trust it to give cheese to poor people? You Americans are creepy weird...

  • Cars used to be made out of steel, now they're made out of styrofoam and fiberglass. Your analogy is based on incorrect assumptions and makes no sense.

  • And governments used to be the cavalry on horseback and stuffy bureaucrats with ledgers back east. It's not as hard to provide a safety net as it used to be in the times of the frontier and wagon trails. But some people still seem to think that you have to relive the colonizing of the wild, wild west, even in the days of the cars, trains, airplanes, and the internet...

  • how have cars become more safe? in my opinion my '88 Firebird is safer than my sister Ion. alot of people i know agree and disagree with this.

the truth is relative to each persons view and opinions.

how have american cars gotten bigger? based on european models, are cars have always been bigger. but compar my firebird against a modern sedan and you see the sedan is bigger inside and smaller ourside. compare my car to a late 70's lincoln, and its a compact.

    incorrect assumptions and opinions.

  • > the truth is relative to each persons view and opinions.

Well, that's a rather unscientific statement, assuming there aren't any statistical data available how many people or are seriously hurt in crashes in one model compared to the other. (Or that they couldn't at least be collected if they don't exist.)

  • As for the bigger vs. better argument, you have a point there, but it's not at all at odds with mine. Just because you can make a car model more sophisticated doesn't mean it has to be bigger. And just because you add government services like universal healthcare and better disaster management doesn't mean the government is getting bigger. Remember, it didn't grow as much under Clinton as it did under Reagan or the Bushes and you still got a better bang for your tax bucks...

  • Well, there's also a bigger population. There are more sophisticated ways available to help people these days. There are also more opportunities for a profit-hungry system to do damage. Business is growing and getting bigger and bigger, too, and with it their power to screw up and hurt a lot of people when they fail.

How could an ever smaller government cope with this situation in your opinion? Or doesn't it have to because the all-powerful INVISIBLE HAND protects us all...?

  • Yes. See above.

  • Penn sounds like The Joker when he laughs.

  • Last time I voted was in the 2000 election, and in my district back in Round Rock, TX I got 51 votes. Me, and 50 others, voted for me. Since then I've -always- stuck by the guns of 'Voting is a waste, since the electoral college votes according to how they're paid anyway' motto. Nicely done, Penn.

Just on a side note...with the thinning black hair, and scruffy nerf-herder goatee...you're beginning to look like a guy I use to RP with back in Texas o.O Kiiiinda creepy.

  • This vid = why I don't vote. Penn's right; we haven't had any strict constructionists in like 150 years. Its SAD.

  • HAHA xD i love the laughter !

  • I'm a cynic and a realist. You don't know unless you ask without questioning , investigating and taking in all the facts you can never assume to know the candidate. I do believe it's hard to be a good cynic without also being a realist. The world isn't perfect and it never will be. I refuse to vote for either, if you really investigate their backgrounds and voting policies, If you have any knowledge of government, your individual liberties, and the constitution you would probably agree with me.

  • Heheh... Nice little twist if irony at the end there :-p

  • most of you are missing tha joke! by him saying don't vote is his Cynicism..get it?!!:)

  • dont listen to penn. there's more to this election than picking a president. Marijuana decriminalization is on the ballot in Massachusetts. if we dont vote(as a community)we cant be heard, because no one is listening to you. No one is going to fix the country by posting youtube videos. if you dont want to vote, dont, but please dont listen to penn. ever. hes a friggin magician

  • Penn doesn't say "don't vote" he says "don't vote for either of them"

There ARE more than two people running for president. Vote for one of the third party candidates who share your views. Yes, you wont get them elected, but you'll add your voice to those saying "I think that *this* is important, and if you want to get my vote next election, support that."

That's making your voice heard. The Big Two do check how the different third party guys do in elections, and see how to get their voters.

  • Don't tell me who and who not to vote for. I believe that a government run by the people for the people can be very effective. Just because its not at the moment doesn't mean it is incapable of doing so, so long as there is popular participation to go with it. Also the private sector has destroyed health care not government. And 65% of people are for national health care so stop pretending other wise.

So I DO agree with what Obama has to say and I will be voting FOR him.

  • The duct appears to be pumping your thoughts out, and broadcasting them to us. Grazzi, duct!

Good to have you around, Penn.

    Cheers for years, Joe

  • Yeah dude I actually thought that was a hat.

  • I came to the same conclusion as Penn, but I thought I WAS using cynicism!

I heard both candidates' stump speeches w/a cynical ear and I didn't find any remarkable differences with them. Neither candidate is for peace. I'm not voting for more bloodshed. Neither candidate convinces me they are for defending the constitution. Neither candidate convinces me they will defend a woman's inalienable right to choose.

Penn's right. The way to waste your vote is to vote, but that IS cynical thinking!

  • So ONLY use cynicism the way you do which means not voting for Obama? God, you're such a big white narcisisst dweeb! People think you're smart? Why? Get a life, Penn...

  • no no no! you got the wrong idea...he's not saying he's for or against anyone, he's just saying that if you look at it w/a cynicism, they both sound the same, and so you end up going in a circle, and become cynical about both...so you vote for neither.

    its a mindf***

  • OH SHI-

  • what???

  • It's a mindfuck. So it deserves an OH SHI-

  • I'm Voting for Paint.

"Vote for Paint! She couldn't do much worse..."

  • There's nothing to agree with either of them on if we agree with you. We could have an argument endlessly to this effect(and let's not) but I don't share all of your political ideals.

  • "Every cynic is a disappointed idealist"-George Carlin

  • I've stayed home on election day a handful of times (in Denmark) because the parties and candidates are a disgrace to the country. "So why don't you run?". Because there are rules in place that makes it very, very hard for new parties to emerge and running independently is equally hard.

  • There are election systems which allow you to vote for a third party candidate — to record your true values — without either "buying in" and "legitimizing" the two party system, or making a completely feeble attempt at protesting the election by not voting.

Don't give up. Don't opt out. The solution is instant runoff voting. A simple change to the ballot, where you mark the candidates in order of preference. In effect, Gore would have won Florida, being preferred over Bush.

    Check it out.

  • Penn: If we voted for you for president, could you perform a trick and make the national debt disappear?

  • Hell, I'd get behind that.

  • i take it from everyone's response that my diatribe about america's "greatness" was generally understood to be sincere, which it was not. i meant to make a point about american people and their attitude towards america's role in teh world.. yes teh. anyway, i agree with bkelsey4 about the issue of capitalism and unregulated markets, which libertarians support. also, does anyone else think penn is a pompous ass? he's so pretentious it kills me.

  • yea, voting is so overrated...

  • my pusssy is wet

  • If you refuse to choose someone on the ballot or just stay home, you might as well declare yourself to be a Republican right now. The Republicans are going to vote for their guy no matter what. They voted for Arnold and he shares almost no Republican views with their mainstream. The Democrats and the Independents are always looking for the perfect candidate who shares every single one of their view points, and that's whay we've been losing for the past decade.Vote against McCain, not for Obama.

  • Now that's a biased statement. There are idiots who are FAR, FAR LEFT just as there are idiots far far right and BOTH will not look to the other side except with a critical viewpoint to boost their own guy. McCain, he sucks, but Republicans don't see that. Clinton, he sucked, but Democrats didn't see that b/c he's charismatic. Democrats are just as evil as Republicans are, so don't try to come in with this "we're better than the Republicans" crap simply b/c of 8 yrs with Bush. Obama sucks too.

  • Okay HammandClov, McCain sucks, Obama sucks, so why don't you just stay home? Your vote will count for exactly as much if you write in someone whom no one has ever heard of as if you simply sat on your sofa. I'm a lifelong Dem. but I never thought Clinton was charismatic. I just thought he was better than Dole (still do). Most elections are more about trying to keep the "more evil" guy out of office, not about electing your champion.I know the "lesser evil" still sucks, but that's democracy.

  • Trying to your daily routine of staying home and being a couch potato on me isn't good. You're one of those imbeciles that believes the crap that comes out these politicans' mouths, believing that the States will be better with this president or this one. Clinton always had a charm. More evvil? You sound pitiful b/c you're a Democrat yet you claim to want the lesser evil. If you knew anything, you wouldn't be on either side, just focus on the candidates themsevles and what they bring.

  • You know what, HammandClov? The day that a prochoice, proseparation between church and state, progay and woman's rights, prouniversal health care, proenvironment, pro ending the drug war, etc. Republican runs for office, I will be the first person to cast a vote for him/her. I haven't seen one yet, have you? I am a Dem. only because 1)I want my vote to count and 2)they are the only major party that represents the majority of my values. That's it.Not because I view them as some righteous force.

  • But see? you are completely biased and one-sided. You don't even think down the middle. You're on the left bashing the right. All that prochoice etc crap, have you ever seen a Democatic president PUT THOSE THINGS INTO PLACE? No. you're just repeating the empty promises of Obama. But I can't reason with you because your perspective is biased and coming from a certain side instead judging the candidates by their ability instead of bashing one and hopelessly believing the other, so good luck, then.

  • Do I hopelessly believe in Obama?Hell no.I highly doubt he's the change we need.I am simply hoping that he won't lead us further down the path towards becoming a thirdworld nation like Bushie&Co.

As for "have I seen a Dem actually put those things into place",well, yes I have.Dems have consistantly defended Roe vs. Wade, kept birth control legal, and have defended the environment.Just because they have not put all of their policies into place (because Repubs vote against them)doesn't discount that

  • you just love big goverment huh. The thing I hate about people like you is you think that your opinion is enough to make it okay to just steal my money to pay for all your projects.

IF I'M LOOKING FOR A CANDIDATE WHO'LL MAKE RAPE LEGAL IT DOESN'T MAKE THAT MORAL OR RIGHT.

  • You know what, davy?If you want to be Mr.Big Individualist, why don't you and others like you just move out to a cabin in the mountains, grow or hunt all of your own food, and stay away from everyone else since that's how much you care about your fellow man?Honestly,if you want to be a part of society it means paying taxes and obeying laws,no matter who gets elected. You don't care about the environment or the poor?Fine, but that pretty much makes you worthless as a humanbeing, and THAT'S not Moral.

  • Lol. So in your world stealing is okay. Just so long as you intend to give some of your profits to the poor (some obviously have to go to starting wars lol).

  • God,you really are a soulless dumbass, aren't you Davy? The whole point of stopping the war (and not beginning any other senseless wars) besides the whole not killing innocent people reason is so that the funds that would had gone to war could go for something useful like health care or education. We've established that you don't give a damn about anyone else, but some of us would like to be proud of living in a country where citizens don't have to choose between medicine and paying the rent.

  • This reply is late but what the hell.

You are wrong. The reason to stop the war is because innocent people are dying, it is completely immoral and the american people are paying for it through enforced taxation. Now the reason to stop the war is NOT so the money can be diverted to the poor. The money saved should be given back to the american people in the form of lower taxes. Then if those INDIVIDUAL americans would like to give voluntarily to the poor that is their business.

  • First,I did state in my comment that the primary reason to end the war was because innocent people were dying;not that it was simply a matter of finances. However, logic would dictate that the $10 billion a month being used for the war could be put to much better use by establishing and enhancing social programmes rather than to spend it on death.

Two:I'm sorry that you're a soulless human being, but giving money to a family with starving kids takes precedence over you having more pocket change.

  • You can call me soulless if you like, but I highly doubt you'd like it if I mugged you at gunpoint and gave the money I stole to this poor family who live a few doors down from me (guess what. They can only afford 1 TELEVISION!!!)

  • The only way to waste your vote is to cast your vote? And you're not a cynic? What kind of bullshit is that? It's this moralizing refusal to accept the lesser of two evils sophistry that got Bush Jr. elected. YOU'LL never be wrong because your solutions will never work in the real world and thus never be proved retarded. So keep on claiming the moral high ground, it's all just fictitious anyways. Jesus, these Libertarians...

  • You know what I'm cynical about? Libertarians. These people would sell their own mother if they had the chance, and then brag about what hardcore capitalists they are. Yeah, unchecked markets are great...if you happen to own a company you can move to China and employ kids for $.50 an hour. For the American worker, it means that your employer can and will replace you with someone who does not require benefits or a livable wage. America is owned by corporations, and that's what we should fight.

  • I think a good way to say non of the above is to write in Ron Paul or Jesse Ventura.

  • I agree.

  • Actually, it looks like a halo.

  • Just want to stop by and say Penn You Rock!!!!

I love the Bull Shit Show with you and Teller :)

So with that said Keep up the Good work!! P.S yes it looks like a fucking Hat LOL

  • Is there actually a spot on the ballot for 'NONE OF THE ABOVE CANDIDATES'? If not, there sure as hell needs to be one.

  • that would basically equal NOT voting. except that it would take more effort than actually NOT doing it.. dude.. dont be so wack.

  • Dude, Jesse Ventura has advocated having a spot on the ballot that says NONE OF THE ABOVE. He explained what that would mean is that you are still voting, you are taking part in the democratic process, but that you are entering a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in any of the people running for office. I for one totally agree with the idea, because it would send a clear message that we can see through their bulls***.

  • i see.... makes sense. but couldnt you just like, write that in or whatever? like.. i thought you could like write in a candidate.. like you could even write like f*** you up on that piece.. that would be straight rebel y'all.

  • I believe you actuallu can write in a candidate. However, I would like to see NONE OF THE ABOVE on the ballots as a valid option, in order to send a message. As for writing in F*** YOU as a presidential candidate, I'm sure that would go over real well at the polls. LOL

  • The only way to waste your vote is to vote- WELL THANKS FOR PUNCHFUCKING REMINDING MY SOPPY-CUNTING FUCKTARDED SORRY-ASS!!! Like I don't realize this on my own... I'm still ganna do it though; hereby EARNING my right to bitch and moan when everything goes to shit. Gughhhhh.

  • vote third party how much worse could it be

  • Hamsters have options. They can spin CW or CCW, but at the end of the day, they are still in a cage. Kind of like voting for a D or an R and expecting real change.

Finally! You've said something that actually makes sense to me.

My bumper sticker will say, "Don't blame me, I vote to dismantle the system". Welcome to a "politically correct" form of Anarchy.

    That's positive skepticism!

  • Is he serious? He sure acts like he knows what he's saying, too bad no one else does!

  • You're a Christian aren't you?

  • LOL.. you funny dawg. look closer................ooooooooooohhhh.....oooooowoooowoowooooooh....woooo....

  • Yeah I Agree That America Is A Great Country But Its Assholes Like You And The Retards Who Run It The Make Us Look Like A Bunch Bullies To Every Other Country But Thats Okay Because One Day And I Hope I'm Not Here To see It But There Is Going To Be A Worldwide War And Everyone That We've Attacked Countrys We Think We're Friends With Are Going To Turn Around And Fuck Us Up

  • And Two If This Country Is So Great Than Why Is It That There Are People Eating Out Of Garbage Cans But Yet 74 Senators Decides Its A Good Idea To Sign off on 700 billion Dollar Bailout Plan So Some Rich Assholes Can Save A Couple Of Dollars Yea Fuck This Shit

  • what i meant is... ignorant hillbilly redneck..or just conservatives are the same as this douche bag. america be havin lots of problems yo.. this guy bitches bout the political system while supporting a corrupt economic system that makes slaves out of workers.. so basically america will be fucked up either way and this guys bitching changes nothing and AIMS to change nothing of great import. he libertereiain and they like support free market economy. he tinks he better but he jus as bad.

  • Ya because putting people in jail for possessing drugs is so much better. Has Obama pardoned non-violent drug offenders? At least this so called red neck doesn't want to put black people in prison.

  • Man. I love Penn. But....hmmmm.....Let's put it this way. To ACTUALLY do what he says, in my humble but correct opinion, would be cynical. Even if he's right that his view is not TECHNICALLY cynical it's just looking at the facts of what the canidates are saying.

God knows, (I'm an atheist too, so that's just a figure of speach) that I don't love the two party system. And EVERY election in this country is picking between the lesser of two evils. But not voting IS cynical

  • Its the classic double negative by doing as Penn suggests you become the ultimate cynic.

  • "the only way to waste your vote is to vote" I love that!

But why should they vote it means nothing this is a republic not a democracy and a republic does not practice democracy vote does not matter it means nothing it is all a show that the government puts on to try and make the ppl think they have a say and to show the world that democracy works.

  • Both Candidates are NOT GOOD FOR THIS COUNTRY!

  • AMEN!

  • Hey cool hat!

  • what a waste of my 1'26"!!

  • this comment was a waste too!!

  • yeah, this is great. echo...echo...

  • For those of you so very confused by "the only way to waste your vote is to vote", Penn explains the position a bit more clearly in his novel, Sock. "The media don't want you to "waste your vote" by voting for a loser. But you can't waste your vote voting for a loser you want. You can waste your vote only by voting for someone you don't want... Keep voting for the lesser of two evils and things will just keep getting more evil." pg.96, softcover ed. Hope that helps!

  • nice...

  • Then your in the lesser of two evils territory. Vote for the guy that may be misleading to get elected and hope he does right thing, or the guy you know wont.

  • WHAT?!

What does he mean "bring the bill of rights back"?

The bill of rights was dissolved??!

  • sure feels like it

  • i wish that enough people would boycott the vote and change the way this country continuously fakes democracy-- but there aren't enough individual thinkers to change shit.

  • he's absolutely right

  • Voting for a party that has conceded in the last 2 elections without a fight could also be perceived as a wasted vote, ha!

  • That's why i am libertarian, a liberal libertarian.

  • same here... libertarian rules !!!

  • So saying "don't vote" isn't cynical?

  • I think that when Penn say's the only way to waste your vote is to vote could be in regards to how we don't actually elect the president, the electoral college does. Gore had the public voter numbers but Bush had the electoral college voter numbers. So why should you vote?!

I'm not saying that I'm not going to vote of course. I just think that perhaps Penn was referring to the flawed election process.

  • i dont want to jump to conclutions but is penn anti voting

  • I click Penn videos because I like to hear what he has to say, hes usually right, he tells it like it is, and when hes wrong its ok because hes always funny and entertaining.

  • Penn, That is a pretty wide-open statement "the only way to waste your vote is to vote." Would it not be a waste of my vote if I disagree with you and agree with either Obama or McCain, and not vote for either of them? While I'd like to believe that libertarianism would work, unfortunately, like anarchy, and other apolitical systems it stinks of idealism. Whoops... you caught me being cynical. I apologize.

  • yes, forgot what you were saying at the end, is it true, monsieur penn, that the white beard part means frenchfries quest que c'est, old myth from hippies, whatevah. age defines.

  • teller has no responses...why...as if speaking were nottyping...sure, it looks like a hat. hat from sinegal? gawd. serius.

  • it's just crackers to slip a rozzer, the dropsy in snide

  • Just stick to the Magic Tricks Penn.

  • My great-grandfather was a POW. He was shot down over Vicksburg during the Civil War while on his way to bomb Auschwitz which was in Georgia south of Atlanta.

    Penn for President!

  • He said something in an interview that stuck with me:

A skeptic, when told something, questions the proof and the rationale behind the statement.

a cynic, when told something, questions the motive of the person making the statement.

  • need a dayum haircut

  • If you just go by what people say and never question their motives and loyalties, you wont understand them. Their statements become hollow and meaningless because what they say has nothing to do with their intentions. At least that becomes the effect of not caring about why they say what they say.

Sorry Penn, this time I disagree 100%.

  • Well put, I agree (with you, that is.) Not sure that means we should be cynical, but it does mean we should question peoples psychology, as well as their arguments and actions.

  • I am all for a "Battle of the sexes" bullshit dealing with the bullshit from feminism and anti-feminism.

  • Yes! Remember kids: don't vote.

  • sara palins on dope

  • politicians only say things that their audience at the time wants to hear.

"My Grandfather liberated the camp at Auschwitz".

    -Senator Barak Obama

  • The russians liberated auschwitz.

  • Penn, you say do not wote for either McCain or Obama? Your right your not a cynic, your a fool.

  • Yea, good point, because only 2 political parties having control over one of the most powerful nations in the world is sooooo where it's at.

  • 2 is better than one.

  • I've always felt the government has steadily been growing and always will, and the only real differences between Republicans and Democrats is what bureaucracies they prefer to grow and the various social issues which seem to always take precedence. I wouldn't mind voting Libertarian, but sadly you guys picked the biggest, slimiest weasel you could find to be your candidate. Maybe I'll just write in Penn Jillette. Or better yet, Teller. A mute president would be a first. At least he couldn't lie.

  • Why aren't more people watching this.

    You sir, are a genius.

  • What is with Sara Palins kids names? Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig? What is this, some weird cult derived from watching too many Brady Bunch shows. Come to think of it they kind of remind me of a new wave Brady Bunch. I dont know about you but that gives me the creeps.

  • His endings have a recurring theme.

  • I plan to vote, but not for either Obama or McCain. I plan to write in Ron Paul. He is the only one that campaigned to go back to constitutional values. Too bad Americans are so easily smoozed. In the great tradition of Penn and Teller, this election has been the greatest example of misdirection and slight of hand in the history of this country

  • Ron Paul has about as much of a chance of winning in your elections as a snow ball in hell. The slight of hand or misdirection is the socialist movement in your country by the democrat party. Get ready to live in a third world country like the rest of us if you vote for Paul or Obama.

  • You answer is McCain? Only if you want another 4 more years of Bush policy. I'd rather live in a third world country. . . oh yeah, that's already happening because of Bush, never mind. As for the slight of hand and misdirection being caused by the Democratic party, the republicans have been at the wheel for 8 years and we are on the brink of destruction because of them. The party system should be thrown out altogether. It's why the country votes as stupidly as it does.

  • O.K., so let's divide people of the world into 4 groups; cynics, suckers, skeptics, and selective believers..... Most cynics are jaded suckers whom have moved from one extreme to the other. They go with the odds, and figure if they yell, "Bullshit!" after every declaretive statement they'll be right 85% of the time. Skeptics like to tweak the odds even further by actually studying the claim and asking questions. Selective believers will kill your children to win the arguement. End.

  • Im a little confused. Is he suggesting that Americas people shouldn't vote? Sure I got what he said in the video but the last part: "the only way to waste your vote is to vote".

  • Hoppskotch, he done told you, take people at his word, well his word was not to vote. Pretty simple aye?
