  • Hey, how did you implement the 'one-level' type model?

I am thinking about a design idea for a game i'd like to make, but I don't understand, conceptually, how I would do that. . . I would most likely be using pygame. Does it have to do with making the worldview larger than the viewport window at all times?

  • @11889music I have a Map class, which contains an array of my Tile class, where each Tile has a coordinate pair (x,y) and an integer, corresponding to which image to use.

Each cycle, the camera's offset is recalculated so that the dinosaur stays in the center of the screen and the camera scrolls.

  • this very nice

    you make the best tutorials

  • CAN'T GET THAT MUSIC OUT OF MY HEAD!

I wish the game had levels and stuff because I had a lot of fun playing it. The collision needs some work of course, but other than that it's great ^_^

  • Goddamn that music is catchy

  • Haha, great! ;)

I just wonder why I didn't see it in my subscribtions before....

  • Woa this game is realy impressive! Makes me want to continue working on my games. :P

    Good job :D

  • Wow very well done! I will be subscribing for sure!

  • I am so addicted to this game for some reason. T_T

You know something's wrong when you end up playing your own game during class o_O

  • After you, sir.

  • @LusikkaMage LMAO

  • cool game (:

  • cool

  • Hey lusikka! Pretty good I have to say... Really I like your stuff!

Look one question... Which lib do you use for sound? I program graphics with allegro too... But I don't know if allegro have a sound engine or something... Sorry for the newbie question XD heh.

    Nice videos keep it up!

  • Yeah, allegro supports sound.

Google "Allegro quick reference", it has a list of a bunch of things allegro supports, and how to use them.

Using the sounds are as easy as using bitmaps and such.

  • Thanks! really that will help me to finish a platformer I'm working on right now =) it would be cool if you see my vids! thanks for answering!

  • This is Cool

I CAN'T RUN IT!! oh well, I borrow Squirtles PC, make a game for Mac=3 if you can anyways?

  • Is there a Wine for Mac? Anyways, it just needs to be compiled for Mac, I need to appoint a mac compiler man for me.

Or you could, you know, buy me one and I'll compile it myself. ;D~

  • The Wine for Mac is buggy, like crash buggy. And theres a compiler? thats interesting

    -Kenura

  • I know there are C++ compilers for Mac, and I know there's a way to install allegro and such, but I don't know how nor do I have access to a Macintosh.

When I have extra cash I may invest in a... stripped down one? If that even exists for a Mac. I'd only use it for compiling, and maybe music editing software, since it seems that's what platform most is for.

  • Well good luck with that. and I look in on that allegro and the c++ compilers. Thx

  • Ha, I love this Lusikka. Although after 2:45 the music began to drive me insane. The little dinosaur is so cute. And holy crap, there's a mini-map! 5/5 like always :)

  • Lusikka you have to be top of the game design class, I highly doubt anyone else has an engine this good... 5 stars as usual :)

  • None of them had experience making games, and the class was teaching them C# with XNA~

  • Pfff, useless in the game industry. They all use C++. Very nice game! Where'd you get that idea from? :P

  • It was supposed to be an action-RPG dungeon crawl, but I was too lazy to draw dungeon tiles. XD

Dinosaur main character for the sake of random awesomeness.

  • awesome game!

  • BEEP BEEP BEEP Error:MUCH WIN HAS BEEN DETECTED IN THIS SECTOR BEEP BEEP BOOP lol

  • What more could you ask for, dinosaurs eating stuff, running around the town eating ice-cream! It's a nice game, I enjoyed watching your little dino-character run around chomping stuff. I'm wondering though, is it going to be that easy in the end? It doesn't seem to pose any challenge to the player at the moment. Anyhoo, I hope to see more videos from you!

  • Yeah, it'll become a more balanced and fleshed-out game. As it was, it was a bit hard so I made his HP go up after leveling, which made it kinda easy. :P

  • Wow, this is almost ZAMN. I mean, the way stuff moves, perspective and stuff. I duno.

  • Sweet.

  • nice! the music reminds me of some old gb game but I cant remember ^^ I like it

  • Wow! That's impressive. You've got a whole combat and leveling system built in as well. Love it.

  • I still need to flesh out the combat more. It's basically if there's a collision between them, and the player's attacking, then hurt the enemy. ^^;

  • keep up the good work....looking good their :D

  • great job!

I always enjoy seeing your new work, it's always quality :-)

An SDL port should be interesting, i'm not an allegro expert, but I do know that SDL is a quality library, and I think you'll be able to do some pretty good stuff with it.

good luck, and keep up the good work!

  • I had started with SDL, but I couldn't figure out if it had a way to draw primitives so I switched to allegro when working on collision. (It helps a lot to draw boxes around their collision regions). o_o

    Thanks a bunch!

  • Like it :)

  • So basically you're a dino on a murderous, thieving rampage through homes? Sweet.

  • This game looks rather cute.

  • Nice! Would be even cooler if the dino grew bigger as he levelled up. None of those yellow snakes would mess with him then.

  • That's very impressive!

  • Keep up the good job :) Its Great!

  • Mooooooooooosader

  • The game looks fun, so keep up the good work.

  • Wow.. Pretty Goood ;)

    Good Job!

  • Thankye sir!
