As an Albertan I will never vote federal Liberal as long as I live. Then entire history of or province is a history of getting fucked in the ass by Ottawa. Right from our formation as a mercantlist-style colony for eastern business to NEP to Dion's green shift. Harper nailed it in his summation of liberal policy: "screw the west, get the rest"
Trudeau made many mistakes in regards to the West but he is not as anti-Western as western populists or separatists make him out to be. I am left-of-centre but I agree that the NEP was a disaster for Alberta - even from a leftist perspective - corporations lobbied Trudeau to remove taxation on oil corporations in the NEP and the NEP turned to demand taxes from Albertans. In the constitutional talks, Trudeau backed the West's stance of opposition to special status for Quebec that Levesque wanted.

@Hanniboom The following list explains my reasons hating Trudeau: he had no respect for the due process of law (the Charter of Rights and Freedom gave Judges the right to over-ride legislation if they deemed it was not in the interest of the PM - the only judges that were granted this right were appointed by the PM. He believed that a group of elites were more capable at running the national economy than was the collective intelligence of the entire population. I can go on for days...
What he said towards the end is dumb. Western Canada isn't and wasn't asking the federal gov't to come up with solutions and fix everything for them. They were asking the federal gov't to stay out of their hair and let them fix there own problems. Since our "centre"alized gov't is in the eastern half of the country. I have no problem with the gov't helping out the maritimes or the territories or QC and ON as long as they help out the entire country. They've done too much to hurt the west though.
