  • AWESME PJ!!! THNX FOR AWESOME POST!!!

  • My family was very close to Mary and Bim and after Bim died, my uncle started performing with Mary. Sometimes Mary would have me go on the stage and sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow with her and I have a lot of other memories of her too! I miss her very much and I still cry about her death to this day and hearing her voice just makes me smile. :)

  • Lisa Layne singing "All I Want For Christmas" 1989.....note for note

  • I swear that I heard a Christmas song so very close to this. Anyone know it. Can't remember the name.

  • I am honored to have Known Mary & Her Family and We were friends ~~and My Husband Lenny played with Mary & Bim & Marty..Doing Concerts & Gigs all over Fla~~ And all of us here in SpringHill, Fla sure do Miss Mary & Bim~~Bet Heaven is enjoying Good Ole Doo Wop ~~ I Miss Marys beautiful voice ~~But still can hear Mary's daughter Marty here in SpringHill~~Mary & Bim I know y'all are singing with the Angels~~

  • so so true

  • NOW this is real Doo Wop.

  • Excellent and Cool ballad!! Wonderful vocal too!

  • Mary Swan was huge in Philadelphia and most of her records got played on American Bandstand. My Girlfriend Betty is great too. It sounds like "Teenage Prayer". Very underrated singer nationally but huge in The City Of Brotherly Love.

  • Love this version PJ thank you for allowing me to borrow it. I love this version!! phyllis x

  • postig this...I am jealous of Heaven's residents as they are now listening to Mary Swan singing LIVE! I miss her and am grateful that her daughter Marty Carroll is here in Spring Hill FL performing and carrying on the traditon of first class professionalism, amazing talent and great showmansip! We all know Mary Swan's heart smiles every day because of her daughter!

  • Absolutely beautiful version, and a real overlooked nugget. Thanks PJ, for bringing it back!

  • Thomas W Owens Jr

PJDooWop....friend me on FB to see pic ....I'm on the right top...below me is Mary's daughter, Marti. Marti, owns a dinner club in Florida called Swannies .

  • I was Mary's drummer from 1979 - 80.....great experience that will be with me forever!

  • Classic doo-wop! Can't understand why this wasn't a big hit. I'll bet if Connie Francis sang it (with a similar voice to Mary Swan) it would've been a hit.

  • This is a terrific version. I think Jackie Wilson's version is the best.

  • Good one PJ Phyllis....

  • I hear a little of Brenda Lee.

  • This is the best version of this song... Thx 4 posting P.J. Phyllis

  • Mary was my Cousin.....I loved her .

  • Just great! Mary had such a sweet, expressive voice and the slightly out of phase production really makes it memorable...impossible to fathom why this never charted.

    Outstanding!

  • Dick Clark played this 40 times in 9 weeks, but it still never made the Billboard Top 100. Too bad, a great version. Clark had a financial interest in the record.

  • THIS SONG WAS PLAYED AT THE HIGH SCHOOL REC CENTER,. IT REMINDED ME OF MY YOUTH. THIS WAS DONE IN THE EARLY FIFTIES. (JTS)

  • My wife and I were personal friends of Mary Swan, and prior to her death last year, we enjoyed having dinner together after many of her performances in Senior Expos around the state of Florida. Mary was quite a talent, and her daughter, Marti Carroll, currently performs at a night club near Inverness, Fla.

Mary performed this song on Dick Clark's American Bandstand in 1958, and it was always her featured song when she performed. May she rest in peace.

  • @vandywilliam Mary was my mother Helen Virtue's cousin. We lost touch with her in the last couple of years. I am so sad to hear that we have lost her!

  • Mary passed away in 2009 I'm sorry to say. She lived in Gloucester Twp. N.J. for many years before moving to Spring Hill Fla.

  • Just been listening to Bobby Vinton's version - had no idea it had been covered by other artisits, and am now wowed by how far it goes back. Love this cover, she sings with such soulfulness and passion!

  • This song goes back to at least the 40s, but it might go even further

  • One word, AMAZING!

  • A great song done really well. She nailed this one, thanks PJ

  • You're welcome

  • WOW THIS IS REALLY NICE

  • Quality tune :))

  • Nice. Kind of a cross between Yvonne Mills and Connie Francis. Thanks for posting.

  • I hear that too... Good call

  • WOW! I love this version too! Thanks PJ!

  • This is strong - feels more like the A side to me.

  • I feel the same way, and yet it ended up on the flip side

  • Dave Appell - master conductor -

arranger ----- one of the un-sung heroes of Doo Wap

  • I agree. I've heard many a wonderful Dave Appell arrangement
