two of my favs. i too love that part that you notated. I wish i could find the song again, but I had an Ella cassette tape years ago and she sang a medley of 'you go to my head' and 'think i'm going out of my head'...it was an uptempo medley and I loved it; never been able to find it again.
It's a great song, and I love how their voices sound together, but isn't this a bit of a weird song to do a duet on? For me this song is about being too shy to approach the man/woman of your dreams. If you're singing that to each other... I'm not saying it doesn't work, but it just takes all the fun out of the lyric.
Man do I wish they recorded an album together... at least we have this and a few other times when they performed live together. The two greatest singers of all time.
Ok, why Did Frankie give like a sexy, Captain Kirk snarl at scene (:22) Before there was Justin Timberlake there was Francis :)...PS Ella is The Queen!
I love it! My mother will be 90 January 2011 and I'm celebrating with an affair at the Marriott, with family and friends. I will be sure to include Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, along with other artists from her era. Ella is timeless and the best at what she does. I thank God I had a chance to enjoy her music.
Imagine if they had recorded an album together like Ella & Louie. I think it would have sold a bajillion copies back then, but especially now. They sing SO well together it gives me chills. You can see the mutual respect and appreciation they shared.
Ella is amazing, but this represents everything I love about Frank: the swagger and effortless cool. When he jumps up above Ella to hit the high "E" in the final verse, it just releases sweet endorphins from my brain. : ) Thanks for posting this! I had to put the DVD on the big screen after this reminder. ; )
This rates as one of the premiere video clips from Top Rated Videos. This clip represents exceptional American entertainment. Ella is the top female musical vocalist of all time. There are only a few that are in her league (including Sarah Vaughan...) but no one individual has ever surpased her. Sinatra is America's leading male vocalist (along with Bing Crosby), but to have a video with both Artists is magical and should be valued by many generations as the best in American music.
I had thought that Little Anthony and the Imperials' version was the killer track until I heard this one years ago. It's tough to say that the Sinatra/Fitzgerald version is better, but it's on the same par.
1967 Hard believe we don't have singers like these two anymore. Instead we have the likes of Christina Arguelara with her Yodeling where you cannot enjoy even a Christmas Carol anymore because they have to do these Vocals that ruin a song. Thank God we have clips like this to enjoy!
Inspired pairing...just watching their on-screen chemistry makes this a thing of TV beauty. And Ella looks smashing in green and is in her most gorgeous voice. And Sinatra- well, this was when he was at the peak of his 'Rat Pack' coolness. A great TV special, in wonderful color.
I remember i've heard These two legends voices since i was a little kid. My beloved granny, who passed away few years ago introduced me to these amazing artists, a great musical heritage Now every time i listen them the closer i feel to her, even thogh she is not longer here.Thank u Frank and Ella for you voices, artistry and music
@HollywoodSisca I listen to those "hateful garbage" that you mentioned, and even buy some of their cds, but while Ella is still and will continue to be on my pantheon of musical deities, I won't discard those "garbage" too soon. I need Ella to sing my blues but still need Lady Gaga or Beyonce or Madonna to get my freak out... :-)
"suntan charlie" was the shit...this is some epic shit right here...frank and ella, the best male and female vocalists of all time. it doesn't get any better...thank you so much for posting this rare gem :)
Holy shit, I can't tell you how fucking thrilled and grateful I am that you posted this video!! This is my favorite part of this show (Jobim/"Ipanema" comes close, though) and I've been looking for this.
Yes, I have this DVD at home and each time I watch it I have to laugh. Frank and Ella make incredible fireworks and Bill Miller just plays the piano :-) Bill had the best job in the world.
