The Airline History Museum at Kansas City’s Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport aquired a Tristar in March 2010. We can still see atleast one 1011 in the USA.
Unfortunately at some point the then president of Lockheed had all the die equipment for the L-1011 cut up so the company wouldn't have to pay taxes on it ending the life of this magnificent plane. Shortly after the destruction of the machinery Delta Airlines attempted to order many more L-1011s and was astonished when they were told that would be impossible. Very sad.
@nemlou Only 2 actual airlines on record that are using them. EuroAtlantic airways (Portugal) has one that it wet leases and an airline called SAM Intercontinental in Mali operates 2 of them... Thats if Wiki is up to date :). Apart from that they are mainly RAF based, who run 9 of them. Unfortunately L-1011's aren't as popular as freighters and haven't lasted as long as DC-10's and MD-11's. Shame because I prefer the Tristar :).
this brings back memories...growing up in winthrop,ma next to Logan Intl Airport Boston,MA- the sound of those engines was unique and one could always tell what was throttling up without looking.
if there are other countries still using these beautiful planes, I wonder if they are allowed to land in the us airports. I know that some aircraft are discontinued due to noise and fuel issue. thanks, please reply
Sorry, I don't know the US regulations, here in Europe as long as the noise regulations are complied, these Tristar's, and other planes, can operate, no problem.
Man I remember the days where I used to watch the airplanes takeoff from LaGuardia and watching the coolest planes such as the Tristar and the DC-10 with their three engines =] Those planes are the reasons why I like widebodies!
One of the most reliable planes of all times like the Constellation - I love the Lockheed products.

Maybe it's the camera angle, but
I don't think I've ever seen a faster acceleration.
He's still relatively motionless at 0:06;
and only seems to go throttle up at 0:11.

TAP used the Tristar to make the route Lisbon - Dublin - Faro - Lisbon, this was the Faro - Lisbon leg.
