  • Rad! They just dont make shit like this anymore.

  • actually...how about "Black Room" from PH...Chameleon in the....u get it...VDGG and peter hammill.....if you want to improve your english...study PH

  • awesome song...how about when you enter the Progressive Hall of Fame...(is there one?) this is what you hear....come on...players.....give me a better all around progressive rock song....and forget Yes

  • @kderdas1 King Crimson pretty much anything from early Crimson, but I mean Crimson are the masters.

  • @kderdas1 I do like this shit though, its pretty good.

  • hahaha, i cannot help but to pick out all of their awesome science references. H to He... referring to the fusion of Hydrogen into Helium? Pretty awesome.

  • Am I the only one who sees two testicles on the cover?

  • @correip

    damn...it's a balance! )P

  • this shoulda been a big hit

  • masterpiece !

  • Uhh... small part of a generation? I've just turned fifteen. I've been into Death Metal (yeah, also the worst of the worst Brutal Death Metal), Technical stuff, Thrash Metal, Prog Metal (almost every subgenre of Metal actually) and Prog Rock for quite a long time. I do like all musical that is beautiful. I think this is beautiful, I think Technical Death Metal is beautiful, I think some Classical music is really beautiful. And I'm Dutch, well, if that doesn't do it for my generation...

  • @blackrook96 I'm an open minded person, but when the words "beautiful" and "death metal" are put together, i think "ironic".

  • @supercj8899 I knew somebody was going to come up with this statement. Death Metal has indeed fallen into the level of obscurity, in which others come to think it is some vague form of "music" that's nothing but noise and screaming vocalists. The technique that comes to Death Metal is one of the most difficult in the world. The melody to the songs is very technical. I'll send you a song, check it out, or don't. It's your choice, however, if you don't, please don't criticize it. Thank you!

  • @supercj8899 Here's the link: /watch?v=BeVtjpnja6Q

I would completely understand if you don't like it, be free to listen or not to!

Anyways, glad you like "real music" in these times, like Van der Graaf!

  • This is a Killer tune

  • Never heard of this band before today. Great stuff.

Good music for a halloween party or for cycling.

  • Killer progressive rock. Its too bad I didnt hear about these guys untill 2004.30 years after this was recorded. It is still fresh unlike other classic prog in my collection.

  • this is sad because only 96000 people wwatched this but there is like a billion people that watches justin bieber on youtube

  • Fantastic as always!

  • VDGG needs guitar

  • @slideon I agree...

  • @slideon nahhh

  • good but, yes, king crimson, elp, genesis > van der graaf generator

    ofc

  • @AlexAndFTW Opinions, mate, opinions.. What's important is that such bands did exist..

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I PLAY THIS WHEN THE MOTHER-IN-LAW COMES ROUND!

  • @christocloche LOL

  • Great

  • Great

  • That was killer lol

  • PURA ESTASI ed eccitazione sessuale

  • Excellent

  • great, great song, awesome riff, cool singing by Hammill, this is a stone cold classic, and I am not a die-hard Van der Graaf fan. This song, Sleepwalkers and When She Comes for me are the holy trilogy and ultimate test for newcomers. If you don't like any of these three, just stay away from the band altogehter.

  • The saiyan Graaf Generator jajajajaj LOL!

  • @Bubblecute1 Coliflor Milk Hamilton :DXD

  • Nowadays musicians forgot about emotions and good riffs such we can manage here. Thank God there are records of bands like Van Der Graaf, King Crimson etc.

  • I saw them live in the Marquee (Wardour Street) in London, in 1971.

    So great !

  • @kinkybeatle Lucky. My parents were 6 then so there's no way I couldve seen that.

  • the most ,weird, full of unconscious meanings song of the whole great band V.D,G.G,a band that is well know only by a small part of a generation,Peter Hammil is,in my humble opinion ,sadly underrated!

  • @icarosilva16

He's one of the best prog singers. Better than Jon Anderson, Ian Anderson, Greg Lake, Geddy Lee, and such. The only one that could be better is Peter Gabriel, but their styles were nothing alike. Gabriel was colorful, while Hammil was very dark and sang with heavy emotions. Pesonaly, I prefer Hammil, but they are equally fantastic. Two of the greatest singers of all time.

  • How the fuck can you dislike this?

  • @ReDeiDannati89

    Simply idiot, sorry but....

  • @ReDeiDannati89 They missed the "like" button.

  • @ReDeiDannati89 Well, if your name is Finulanu...

  • Wonderful music and vibrant lyrics!

  • koje bogatstvo

  • most unerrated lp of century

  • @keith904A Magazine is a very virtuous band, it got good musicians, that`s why the gap its small. I never thought about this comparison but you`re right.

  • Pete Hammill is voice is truly chilling when he uses it right. His tendency to go for operatic bombast threatened to make "Pawn Hearts" farcical, but he is excellent here.

  • my first vdgg album..10/10 a progrock monument.

  • my first vdgg album..10/10 a progrock monument.

  • I heard this in a record shop and thought it was a prog rock track from David Bowie. Love it! It also reminds me a lot of post punk band Magazine so maybe the gulf between prog and post punk is not so great.

  • @keith904A VDGG (Hammill in particular) was definitely an influence on Devoto, you can hear it in his delivery and words- totally agree w/ you. But Magazine were beyond punk/post punk, they were very much art rock. VDGG paved the way, Hammill's a genius and happens to have an incredible voice to boot.

  • NEEEEAARRR YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUOUOUOUOUOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUOU

  • There is more to this song than 20 years of pop music. 9 minutes of excellence.

  • Only 1 person did not like this song. This 1 person is probably watching Glee or American Idol right now. PROG RULES! Commercialized music drools!

  • grande disco!

  • Grandiosi!

Originale, innovatore, straordinario. Geniale.

  • Robert Fripp of King Crimson appears as well on this album. Just check the credits.

  • I wonder how is it possible that any band hasn't made a killer cover of this song. It would just sound perfect (less perfect than the original of course) with Monster Magnet or other stoners - a perfect song for heavy guitars!

  • I am a big fan of Jethro Tull and prog rock, and this band is turning into a favorite as well.

  • Great track!

  • Put &fmt=35 in the URL to get the highest quality music possible.

  • so whats the deal with that album cover?? :S

  • @superdude13666 its a set of 'pan scales' .

  • great song i love van der graaf!

  • "On a black day in black month

at the black bottom of the sea"

    This is called pessimism

  • @PASJONAT51 HAHAHAHA YOU'RE SO FUNNY.

  • esta banda le gustaba a luca prodan

  • Speechless!

  • hammill really doesnt get the respect he deserves

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • killer vdgg - hell they are

  • flawless

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Guy Evans!! Some of the best drumming I've ever heard. Blows away Ginger Baker, and even Keith Moon. Incredible vocal style from Peter Hammill. Interesting how adding a sax can set a band apart from so many others (like adding a flute in Jethro Tull or early Genesis).

  • Not to mention Hugh Baton on Keyboards... Cheers from Spain.

  • Grande disco, grande progressive!

  • stupenda come sempre

  • VDGG and Morphine are one of the few rock groups without Electric Guitar:

VDGG: Sax, Keyboards, Drums and Peter's Voice (best singer ever)

Morphine: Sax, Bass, Drum's and Mark's Voice

  • most clever, original and interesting prog band ever

  • Acoustic guitar comes in at 3:43 and there's bass guitar throughout. The song has guitars. Still an amazing song, though, really sticks in my head even after all these years.

  • wonderful song! thank you..

it sounds like Black Sabbath's Iron Man..

maybe also mr ozzy has been inspired by VDGG!

  • @getella1980

Lol that's what I was thinking when I heard it. More proggy though of course. :D

  • It's Really Amazing!!! Without Guitar ?

  • @SuzieSmiled you can play every sound you want without instruments , if you have the music in your mind...this is what progressive's learning

  • Is this prog/symfo/art/jazzy or a bit of everything?

  • How to make a great rock song without guitars...eh eh, Masters of this Art!!

  • Except I can hear an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar and a bass guitar.

  • Maybe you don't know too much of them.

  • I was specifically talking about this song, but as far as groups go without having a guitarist, ELP were the best.

  • @Spudzilla5656 GREG LAKE MIGHT WANT A WORD WITH YOU!!!!

  • super !

  • God bless Van Der Graaf Gen. !

    Fu##ing great song! AWESOME!

  • vdgg are god

  • amazing song. They were pretty popular in europe, not here in the US

  • grandissimo jackson.

  • Grande Peter Hammill!!

  • 1970 e dintorni grandi ricordi ; visti dal vivo

  • Beatissimo te...
