It's probably just a part of how they are. They are separate from politics so they have to be on fairly good terms with all sides in all arguments. All European Royal families are related, governments change but they view their bloodlines as traceable back to Roman times and beyond. This is from a time when channel 4 used to make documentaries like channel 5 do now. Who knows what his views were, it doesn't really matter. His brother stayed during the raids and he was King.

@putty1994 I think you are right but it's worth bearing in mind that history is written by the winners. If Germany had won and taken over the world (which they would have without British resistance) then Edward would be viewed as a hero and George the traitor. Pretty clever move by the royals, but also fairly sickening. It's also worth bearing in mind that USA didn't get involved until Germany was already on the run which is how they ended up a world super power (basically same tactic).

Britain and the Commonwealth countries were hanging on tooth and nail, God love them. Your contention is an insult to the American soldiers, like my father, who had to fight their way across Europe to defeat Germany. By the way, the losers do write history; read the Civil war histories written by southerners, for example.

@Ezrateach Nonsense. The RAF had air superiority allowing the invasion of Greece and the successful Africa campaign. The Germans had already abandoned their initial surge into Moscow when the united states declared war on Japan. It was Germany who then declared war on the united states of etcetera. The Germans were therefore doomed before the US slinked out from neutrality. As for the bravery of the ordinary soldiers, they will always have my respect. No matter who their leaders were.

90% of this doc. is speculation. You cant even use hear say in a court of law but we are supposed to take that and interviewees opinions on the Duke to mnake him out to be a traitor. The US didnt even want to beleive what was going on in Europe during the war, and did NOTHING to get into it until we ourselves were attacked. The doc barely shows ANY proof that the Windsors did anything more than socialize with those in their social circles.

Such revelations in war time could only have served to undermine allied morale & provided the Nazis w/ the very sort propaganda they were seeking. Americans would only have resented corruption in the Royal family. The British would have become suspicious of their own leaders. Who knows how the Commonwealth nations would have reacted. It was smart & necessary in the War to hide all this.

I don't like the idea of executing anyone, for any reason. I certainly don't want the state to have that power as politicians tend to find ways of abusing such things for their own ends. A lifetime of community service would have been far more fitting. Perhaps decorating OAPs houses or other menial work. We're not savages.
