In 1936- English Gov. appeased Hitler & self-disarmed. Churchill said Hitler would attack, so was called a War Monger. A hopeless situation for a disarmed England! Did E. abdicate & fake a roll to position himself to mitigate harsh subjugation of England in future? In 1940, did his words & dangerous wandering from Paris to Provence to Portugal, offer himself as “bait”, hoping to delay Hitler’s invasion past summer & radar setup?- Hitler did delay. --Did Edward's desperate acts save Britain?
HRH Duchess of Windsor and HRH Duke of Windsor were two individuals who were in love and went against the establishment and therefore have been victimized since in history by those who feel that if you don't abide by the rules of the day you must be eliminated. Watch the movie Edward on Edward which was narrated by his nephew Prince Edward (Elizabeth's youngest son) where he systematically dispels all of these myths and lies about HRS The Duke and Duchess. May both of them RIP
@mlowdude She was NOT HRH ... didn't you listen earlier in the documentary when his equerry blatantly stated this? His words regarding this were, and I quote: "It literally broke his heart."
@mlowdude - I watched "Edward on Edward" narrated by HRH Prince Edward, youngest son of HM Queen Elizabeth 2nd and he convinced me of nothing - whatever the truth about the HRH the Duke of Windsor - he abdicated the throne - many are glad that he did. George 6th followed him - he was a good King!
well hell usa has had 42 British cousions presidents running usa so they should have known the british way to do things.hell america never won against britian and hitler won ww2 nwo is here. by just looking at today history tells us this.
@traciellutz66 sorry you cant handle the truth.britians queen is german and american presidents are german. Do your history I need no meds thankyou very much.
It's probably just a part of how they are. They are separate from politics so they have to be on fairly good terms with all sides in all arguments. All European Royal families are related, governments change but they view their bloodlines as traceable back to Roman times and beyond. This is from a time when channel 4 used to make documentaries like channel 5 do now. Who knows what his views were, it doesn't really matter. His brother stayed during the raids and he was King.
@putty1994 I think you are right but it's worth bearing in mind that history is written by the winners. If Germany had won and taken over the world (which they would have without British resistance) then Edward would be viewed as a hero and George the traitor. Pretty clever move by the royals, but also fairly sickening. It's also worth bearing in mind that USA didn't get involved until Germany was already on the run which is how they ended up a world super power (basically same tactic).
@jacksawild that is correct and yes it was c;ever for them to cover it up but just like you said i9t was very sickening that our government could have covered this up for all these years i believe that once the war was over they should have released the documents and executed Edward
@jacksawild What he hell are you talking about? Germany was not on the run in December, 1941, when America entered the war, far from it. Britain and the Commonwealth countries were hanging on tooth and nail, God love them. Your contention is an insult to the American soldiers, like my father, who had to fight their way across Europe to defeat Germany. By the way, the losers do write history; read the Civil war histories written by southerners, for example.
@Ezrateach Nonsense. The RAF had air superiority allowing the invasion of Greece and the successful Africa campaign. The Germans had already abandoned their initial surge into Moscow when the united states declared war on Japan. It was Germany who then declared war on the united states of etcetera. The Germans were therefore doomed before the US slinked out from neutrality. As for the bravery of the ordinary soldiers, they will always have my respect. No matter who their leaders were.

90% of this doc. is speculation. You cant even use hear say in a court of law but we are supposed to take that and interviewees opinions on the Duke to mnake him out to be a traitor. The US didnt even want to beleive what was going on in Europe during the war, and did NOTHING to get into it until we ourselves were attacked. The doc barely shows ANY proof that the Windsors did anything more than socialize with those in their social circles.
@a1sspiked You have alot of nerve to criticize the U.S. on our part in the war. If it hadnt been for us you would be eating Bratwurst and drinking German beer. Our soldiers gave their lives for you and your countrymen numbnuts. As far as your so called "King", he was a traitor scumbag who should have been hanged.
YOU DIDN'T FIGHT FOR US YOU FOUGHT FOR YOURSELVES THE ONLY REASON YOUR COUNTRY EVER GOT INVOLVED IN WORLD WAR2 WAS BECAUSE OF THE ATTACK PEARL HARBOUR ASSHOLE.
@TheSSGB ......theres no English blood mixed in with our soil over here jerkoff......thank God there are English men and women over there that know how we helped your country in the war. You are just in denial and cant accept the fact that you needed our help. And as far as being an asshole I think you have made it quite clear who the asshole is.
He was made Governor of the Bahamas. he continued to receive an extremely generous stipend, care of the taxpayers whom he'd repeatedly betrayed. Then he repeatedly broke financial laws.
He should have been arrested, tried and when found guilty, shot.
Such revelations in war time could only have served to undermine allied morale & provided the Nazis w/ the very sort propaganda they were seeking. Americans would only have resented corruption in the Royal family. The British would have become suspicious of their own leaders. Who knows how the Commonwealth nations would have reacted. It was smart & necessary in the War to hide all this.
@VictorLepanto exactly that is why they had to wait so long these documents could have placed deep mistrust between not only the allies but also members of the british public.
@putty1994 I don't mean to get all hippy on you but what would be the point of beating vermin like the nazis if we then just end up behaving like them anyway? I don't like the idea of executing anyone, for any reason. I certainly don't want the state to have that power as politicians tend to find ways of abusing such things for their own ends. A lifetime of community service would have been far more fitting. Perhaps decorating OAPs houses or other menial work. We're not savages.
@DantesDump yes but you have to see it from both the government and royal family point of view they knew if the newspapers and public at the time found out there would be deep mistrust and anger on the part of the general public to find that Edward was a nazi and financial criminal so in a sense that was for the best for them but yes i think you are very correct in this case
@DantesDump you got that right, it was all about him and that whore wife of his not feeding on caviar, WITH A WAR ON WHILE THE ALLIES WERE RATIONED, I think they were allowed meat once a week.
@DantesDump I understand your feelings against him but why her? She was an American citizen and should not be held responsible for her husband's dealings which he and he alone controlled.
@DantesDump What a load of absolute tripe! "...arrested, tried and [this made me laugh particularly] when found guilty, shot". Quite apart from presumption of innocence (key tenet of British Justice), yes Edward VIII was a d**khead, and e made a poor King, but guilty of treason? There's no evidence. Nothing he did amounts literally or even implicitly to treason. Take your emotional moaning elsewhere
