  • Hello great sound what is name of song?

  • @jsteelman1000 no idea. Just made it up on the fly

  • it seems like you did not even use an amp haha btw nice video

  • Comment removed

  • @volcanicaction you're probably right although many of the garage bands were originally surf combos so there is a slight overlap in styles.

  • bravo!!!

  • What scale do you prefer over surf?

  • bad ass :)

  • @floyd369 very SURFy sound! , nice

  • any tabs for these?

  • go amps reverb ...

  • I used to have a jag and although it has a rep as a surf guitar, I reckon a strat is the most authentic option.

But really the most important thing is the amp so don't neglect that!

  • Would you reccomend a fender jag for surf rock???

  • hey dude is your tele artic white??

  • @SlashMoore Olympic white

  • How do you get that amazing tone?

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

    youre doing it right

  • YOU ARE AWESOME !!!

  • stupid zipper head! the guitar is suppose to sounds like that! str* twang and shabang!!!

    REVERB!

  • Its Surf guitar you retard. Most 60's guitars sounded just like that in the time. Whats wrong with it? no enough distortion! moron.

  • @Gemusician its supposed to sound like that your even more retarded than a diareah dick waffle

  • @kaeo96 It's supposed to sound like that

  • sounds great!

  • wow! it sounds like you're playing right at the tailpiece. i like that bright twangy sound. none of the fender clones i've toyed with have that much bite, even without an amp. i think i'll go tele if i ever buy another guitar now.

    great demo, thanks.

  • Danelectro 1959s got that much twang.... if not more!

  • that is.. BRIGHT :D

  • yea that was bright lol. i got a old fender twin reverb solid state from the 60s thats so bright it will make your ears bleed with a tele plugged in it lol. maybe i should give a demo soon

  • very bluesy sound, nice

  • @floyd369 bluesy sound ??? Hun ?

  • Very good *****

  • i like that shit man !

  • Johnny,

Check out the four instrumental from the Surfin' USA album. Let me know what you think!

  • I will do. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • For JohnnyFriendly, who doesn't consider the Beach Boys to be a surf band, have you heard "Moon Dawg" on the Surfin' Safari album, "Misirlou", "Stoked", "Surf Jam", & "Let's Go Trippin'" from the Surfin' USA album? Great surf instrumentals! The difference between the Beach Boys & most other surf bands, however, is that they could actually sing!

  • I've not heard Surfin' Safari (LP) so perhaps my comment was out of line. I always thought they vocalized on all their material which is a no-no in surf?

Not saying they weren't musically valid but certainly a far cry from Dick Dale/Davie Allen etc (at least from what I've heard)

  • @409442 Beach Boys had some of the best harmonizing in music, so did the Byrds.

  • are you jsut using the pentatonic scale?

  • I love me some surf!! Well done!!!

  • Now I feel like listening to the ventures.

  • Nice tone; a little bit too sharp imo, but that could've been your camera aswell. :)

    Nice playing!

  • Yeah this was one of my early ones where I used the camera (for sound) and a solid state amp. Hadn't really figured out how best to record shit back then but hopefully my videos have improved now.

  • oh btw is that a MIM or american?

  • It's Japanese.

  • hell yeah. i have a Japanese strat. its the best.

    nice video btw.

    cheers

  • :o)# Surf guitar is mostly Telecaster and derivates territory isn't it? Nice sharp tone. Watch out for The Cruel Sea, though.

  • I'm just getting into it. Seems to be mostly strat though since I own a tele this is pretty inspiring. :)

  • Good luck in practice!

  • Well the ultimate surf guitar is the Fender Jazzmaster, but The Ventures have their own custom guitars that can be purchased and I believe the old Danelectros were a cheap surf guitar

  • Aha!

  • Nice playing man! Love the tone.

  • right on

  • turn down the reverb it sounds like shit

  • Surf guitar is supposed to be all slappy and reverby you dumbass

  • i love the shape hate the noise, i prefer how Jim Root from slipknots sounds, does anyone know how i could get my srings from like twanging? Get rid of the twangyness on the guitar?

  • you're gonna need some different pickups. thats where the twang comes from.

  • cheers mate!

  • if you dont like the twang dont get a tele you dumbass thats what there know for. also there are much better tele tones than in this video

  • At the end of the day, i don't like the twang for the music i play. I have normal tele's and for country and shit they're great. Jim Root and John 5's tele's don't twang, so i can still love the shape seeing as i have like 15 tele's. I just don't like the twang!

  • its your nut at the end of your neck.......if yours is metal or copper by a graphite nut.....if its already graphite buy a bone nut

  • lmao. maybe you havent noticed but tele will ALWAYS = twang, unless you have the jim root signature.

  • Good job i have it in both colours!

  • mine doesn't.

    i have the emg t-set.

  • lmao. maybe you havent noticed but tele will ALWAYS = twang, unless you have the jim root signature.

  • its only smurf...sorry smurf..surf because of the raspy iritating tone...ya prick....its still just basic blues licks.....boring..waste of time bro!!!!!!!

  • lol..

  • I think if you were more secure with your skill level you wouldn't find the need to insult people.

  • you know any beach boys?

  • I don't, no. I don't really consider them to be "Surf" though

  • oh. I dont listen to "surf" so I really domt know who is really considered it haha. I always though beach boys were lol something with surf and stuff. im mostly classic rock and country so I donjt know alot of surf bands

  • Sweet!

  • Lot's of reverb on there man! What amp did you use?

  • Vox Cambridge 30R (built-in reverb)

  • Nice tone! The middle is like way down, and the treble way up! Nice style!

  • I like your style....great guitar playin

  • have you tried one of those tele bigsbys? seems ideal for this. your surf sounds great! thanks.

  • im 13 and i am soon gonna purchase my first guitar im tryin to decide between a strat or tele i like classic rock like the beatles and hendrix but i also like surf like dick dale and grunge like smashing pumpkins and nirvan help please!

  • i have a tele and i love it, you can easily get strat sounds out of it. it doesnt really go the other way though.

also have you considered a semi hollow body guitar like an epiphone dot? those usually have pretty wide tonal range.

fender jaguar is a popular grunge guitar (Bush, Nirvana) but smashing pumpkins was pretty much always strat/les pauls. so i'd just pick something that is comfortable in your hands and looks cool.

  • didnt nirvana mess with tele's a few times?

  • yeah they did on the austr

  • railian tour on 1992 and i think thats it, sorry comp went a little dodgy.

  • Yep in 92 and during the bleach era when they had shit I forgot his name but the second guitarist used it before he got kicked out... god damn whats his name!

  • jason everman (or is it eversman?)

  • jason everman

  • Either a telecaster or an SG. SG's have the best classic rock and grunge sound by far. But for surf a Jaguar or a Jazzmaster would be best. Telecasters and Stratocasters are the most well-rounded guitars around though.

  • i had a strat for a long time and traded it in for a les paul...now i'm trying to get a tele too. i love the les paul for some styles/sounds and the fender sound for others. having a good tele, a les paul and a semi-hollow will cover you!

  • i cant decide between a strat and tele can somebody help me i like classic rock like the beatles and jimi hendrix but i also like grungy stuff like nirvana and the smashing pumpkins if anybody could help id be very greatful

  • awesome

  • yea dude thats some good improv cant wait till im that good

  • can you send me a tab of this?:O this is very nice ;)

  • Actually, I'd be grateful if someone could send ME the tab of this!

I make everything up as I go along so unfortunately I can't recall what I did but thanks for your appreciation.

  • Nice!

  • Surf music isn't my cup of tea. But this one rocks and defenately worths to watch.

    *****

    Keep up with it!

  • that sounds soooo friggin sweet!!! either im gonna get that guitar or a surf board. next time jam out a lil longer.

  • Sweet surf jam, love that stuff.

  • what vox amp are you using?

  • Cambridge 30R

  • Great. 5 stars.

  • less reverb, thanks!

except from that, thats really good :)

  • I thought reverb was the whole point of surf music!

  • Damn right!!! :) Sounded damn good....I think I'd get some heavy strings on that bad boy so you can get a little heavier tone, and maybe turn up the gain, but that is MY preference....you do it the way you like!!

  • of course you are right reverb is the most important thing in that surfing sound

  • No, 13's are the whole point of surf music!

Ever tried Pyramid flatwounds from Germany? They're silver-plated for that extra CLAANNGG!!!

  • it is.

  • just what I hear at the 5&Diner! Great chops, man!

  • Nice stye of playing. Enjoyed it very much! Thanks for posting!

  • Hang ten, indeed. I enjoy your playing and think you have great taste when it comes to guitars. :-)

  • From a Google search: Equipped with a rosewood fingerboard the guitar will produce a focused sound emphasizing the midrange. The maple fingerboard tends to accentuate the top and bottom frequencies with a dip in midrange. In guitar playing terms, the rosewood guitar tends to be the choice of rock players. Rhythm and blues players often prefer maple fingerboards.

  • Thanks Blastoff!Great info.I'm stuck on the rosewood.

  • Do ya like the rosewood better than the maple? i just cant get used to playing any neck that isnt rosewood.those laquered maple fretboards feel gummy.

    Nice riffs mang

  • Can't say I prefer the rosewood necks per se, although I have noticed that the maple neck Teles tend to sound brighter. Whether that's the reason or not, I'm not sure.

    Thanks for the compliment.

  • I prefer the maple neck. More zing! You can hear EACH note played, single note or a chord that you play. It does get some getting used to though that i'll agree. Rosewood is a dryer and more porous wood that's why it gives it a mellower sound. Maple is a dense wood and it's heavier. No pores in that wood, so less air travels on the neck therefore less vibrations. Pores = amplifies the accoustics of the guitar think of them as thousands of accoustic guitars hollow bodies in the neck.

  • Thanks for the info Flammingcarrot!I'm only 3yrs into it and lots to learn!lol
