  • Literally improved my game instantly!!! Thanks be to Lubin!!!

  • gillsigolfdotcom to learn the best way.

  • what about the path the club is on?

  • Here's a thought... everyones wrong! There are numerous things you can do to slice/fade a golf ball. For instance, even if your club face is closed and you have good position at the top of your swing, if you initiate the down swing with your upper body you can cut across the ball creating a slice. The video points out one way to fix slice, it doesnt claim to fix everything.

  • Slicers forget this. The guys a good teacher no doubt, but sometimes good teachers can still teach the wrong approaches when fixing problems. If youre slicing the ball and you already have a good solid grip, youre either not loose enough over the ball or you are out of position at the top of your backswing. Probably the later!!

  • @Threadonaspool

"Out of position at the top of your backswing"?????

    WTF???

More like "out of position at impact".

The ONLY reason why a golfer slices the ball is because the clubface is OPEN at impact.

    Period.

  • @martinavizcomm There is a reason for being out of position at impact my friend and it usually has to do with your position at the top of the backswing.

  • @Threadonaspool

Sorry, you are wrong. The top of your backswing has nothing whatsoever to do with impact.

    (Unless, however you play "dead-handed").

You can have a severely closed clubface at the top of the backswing, yet still hit shanks & slices.

People are looking in the wrong places for good golf.

    Yourself included. ;)

  • This guy is correct. The golf swing is not called a "swing" for nothing. It should never be thought of as HITTING. The relatively slow movement of an arm activates a bull whip and by the time that energy reaches the tip the sound barrier has broken - SNAP! By the time your hands reach the bottom, the club-heads is releasing and moving much faster than your hands, think about it. THIS WHY THE PROS OFTEN LOOK SO EFFORTLESS. This demonstration is the key to club-head speed. Practice = Accuracy.

  • The Golfing Machine calls this- releasing the #3 power accumulator. It not only squares the clubface but actually adds power to the swing. It is a feeling of smoothly 'rolling" the wrists NOT flipping them. This technique is for a "swinger" who utilizes centrifugal force to release the club.If you are a hitter (player who gets his power from the straightening of the right elbow to release the club instead of centrifugal force) this rolling technique is the kiss of death.

  • @TheNYgolfer

So according to Kelly, the hitter has no club face rotation, or horizontal hinging?

If that is the case, then the wrist cock of the hitter is through left wrist bowing (flexion), rather than radial deviation plus pronation? I can see how this works, keeps the right palm normal to the downswing plane, but I don't think most could get more that 70-80 degrees of lag.

  • thanks for this vid... it really helps me learn something new! I have tried to play golf also you may see it in my channel for other tricks.. :)

  • all true but i would tend to say, most amateurs slice because they hit over the top due to starting the swing with the arms and shoulders

  • @silowhore a combination of both is what makes a slice

  • this is gold for the beginning golfer... love it!

  • Great tutorial. Thank you.

  • This is a wonderful tutorial. Most high handicaps do not understand how much the hands work in the golf swing. It is a great source of power. This is not flipping, it is rotating. BIG DIFFERENCE. Wonderful tutorial.

  • A large part of the swing that is rarely mentioned that contributes greatly to the slice is grip pressure.

  • The key to lowering your handicap is the stretch, check out our golf specific TRAINERmat at

    SELFTRAINERMAT . com

  • Interesting tip. What I like to try to do is to get the turning through of my body to square the face and then release it beyond impact. It's more of a connected type swing, that is much easier to replicate for 18 holes. And, I find it's more powerful, if my core rotates aggressively through the shot.

  • the club release by your body rotation not by flipping or rolling your hands, im sorry but at 95 or 100 miles swing speed you aint gonna get those hands to do what you want.

  • Release happens after impact

  • Any bit of advice helps. Thanks.

  • Nice vid...I'd tell your students at half way down the right palm, back of left hand and clubface all face the target line. This'll get them releasing.

  • What do you mean the club face is open?

  • Totally useless those training aids. It makes people "think" while playing golf. Lesson no. 1 is when you think... you stiffen up and screw up.

I can recommend the lessons of Shawn Clemens.

  • excellent advice. its amazing how too firm a grip will not allow wrist turn therefore slicing every shot. good advice. thank you!

  • Clear and easy to follow advice.

  • i love the fact that i can flip it earlier to stop from slicing. but now im fucking hookin. and its not a fun as u might think

  • This is the worst golf instruction ever! This guy clearly has not seen the bizhub camera! The initial start line is determined by the angle of the clubface! Not the path!!! If you want to draw the ball the face has to be open to the target line! No roll with your wrists!

  • So much conflicting advice. I think this is not a great video. Release should be fairly automatic. Better to think of arms folding. Active hands is VERY HARD to control. Id say this video is only really for rank beginners (no doubt Im gonna get abuse now, but thats my opinion!)

  • Hey John, Thanks for the tips. I am 14 and shoot about a 15 handicap on a solid round of golf. I think that is about average for my age, right? Just one question. Would it be better to keep my body a bit more "together". I have been told I have a great swing but the con is that my right arm gets a little away from my body in my backswing. I have been practicing putting a head cover underneath my armpit at the range to stay a bit more together. Is this a good solution? Please feel free to reply.

  • you can do the same thing with your watch face.

  • I bought a book on the golf sweek last month and i have improved ALOT. It's really easy to understand and will definetly improve your game. I was driving 150-200 now I easily exceed 300 yards. I strongly recommend buying it. Send me a message if you want the link.

  • @mattS5295 Go on, what is the magic book/link!!!!

  • At this pace of lessons and drill techniques, it will take you many years to improve slightly.

  • jesus unless your a cripple. how can this movement NOT be a natural movement... its like listening to kindergarten.. people just remember 1 thing. find your natural swing and then adjust. your trying to copy someone who doesnt resemble your body at all.. so why copy him? do you see 5"4 people copying micheal jordan? why? coz his angles in body alignment are totally different. just get a bag of clay and keep hitting it till you find YOUR straight shot. just hit the damm ball

  • With wich hand are you going to close the club face at impact ?

  • @EpiphonezZ which hand!! its a double handed game. dont listen to this muppet. my 10 year old will out hit him. christ sake get you camcorder out and teach yourself. what you going to do on a course? ask someone EVERYTIME you address?

  • This is a great nugget of info, provided that it follows a series of "correct" sequences, ie leg/hip, torso, shoulders, arms => blammo. I like Hogan's take on this, ie right hand power and left hand stability. But, people are right in stating, this isn't necessarily the silver bullet for slicing. I was a controlled 'fader', stuck @ 10 handicap until I sequence this move correctly, making things much easier!

  • @andrianc3g GOLF IS A LEFT HANDED GAME YOU MUPPET... right hand is for stability...... whats the greater force? pulling or pushing.? figure this out and your golf may get better!!!!!

  • @durs6 I'm merely quoting Hogan's book, lesson 4 in his Five Lessons book, read it and reference that. Insults are for grade school kids.

  • shouldnt the release go automatic?

  • @izzy0210 in theory, yes. but not always. some people struggle with core strength and or timing.

  • @izzy0210 I thought the same thing when i saw this.

  • @izzy0210 NO! big minception in golf

  • @izzy0210 only if other variables are present like grip, pivot.

  • how bout getting people square at the top so they dont have to flip it closed thru impact-how can u guys still teach this where the clubface stays square for a nanosecond-crazy stuff no wonder golfers arent improving

  • How about the golfer who has the clubface square at top and opens it thru impact to help the ball into the air.

Try to be more open minded !

  • @jlubingolf then tell him to rotate the club 20 mm then. jesus you golf gurus think your special. it aint hard. whats hard is telling the bullshit players advice from a coaches advice. if you dont earn cash dont be flash. can you hit a drive either hand 300 yds? then you aint no good.......

  • He IS teaching to square the clubface at the top. The only way for it to be square at the top is to rotate it so the clubface is facing the same direction as the players face. If there was no rotation, the face would be extremely closed at the top.

  • @shortgamebull The clubface is only square to the path for a nanosecond no matter how you release. Even Byron Nelson who kept the club moving along the target line longer than anyone, squared the face to the ball for a nano second.

  • @shortgamebull the longer you keep it open and extend at the bottom and release as close to the ball as possible and keep it square, you get more clubhead speed

  • check out ...HITMANHAWKY... vid on grip and release.. MUST SEE...you can skip the first 2 minutes to get to the good stuff..best on the tube

  • @durs what a dork you are. Even people who are "born with it" practice 80 hours a week. The goal isn't to become a golf pro it's to improve your game. Idiot.

  • @greglin0422 muppet i earnt in my career, exactly £859,048 playing golf. retard

  • @durs6 earnt? lol who's the retard exactly?

  • Releasing the clubface will certainly minimize slice as clubface position is the primary influence of direction. I think this is a quick fix and should be thought of if your ball is consistantly curving and finishing well to the right of target. However, I think that swing path needs to be given some thought at this stage. It's because their path is out-to-in that the golfer has taught themselves not to release the club in the first place.

  • this is so crap just watch dalton mcreary teach golf its easy. i hit 348 yds 80% with 14% slice 16 yds variance and 6% hook. 20 yds. i play scratch and win a lot of comps. i also hit a tennis serve at 129 mph. your either born with it or your not, + plus 30 years practising. learn your limitations and be happy playing crap. the worst thing to do is to watch pro golfers and try to emulate them. when really your playing like a 12 year old girl. ( not even a pro one) EGOS MAN.

  • so, why are you not a professional athlete?

  • what makes you think i wasnt ? made my cash..

  • @durs6...I agree with you to an extent that some have it.But those who don't unfortunately are constantly getting bad instruction, learning from folks who don't understand the fundamentals of the swing. The vid explained what 90% of amateurs do and it is not a quick fix.I believe that this video should be viewed as many times as possible.Usage of the tee is an excellent way to see if you are doing it right. You need to do some soul searching & figure out the source of ur negativity. Bruised ego?

  • are you retarded? because you sure act like you are.

  • I went from an 18 to a 4 handicap in a year and a half. I did it emulating my pro at my home course. You might of heard of Ben Hogan. He did that in the early stages as well. And I can guarantee you he was a much better golfer than you.

  • Wrists only hinge up and down in a golf swing. And this hinge is not a conscious move either. This so called clubface release will promote inconsistent ball striking typical of handsy players.

  • wrong.... pull with your left cock wrist lift arm release the head at the TOP.. turn hip (to straighten head) flick toe over. AINT HARD PEOPLE

  • This is EXACTLY what Jim Flick is working with me on. I am a 7 handicap but have been stuck with shorter distances - when he showed me this same thing, I was surprised that I had never grasped this concept before. He showed me videos of Jack and others and sure enough, this release is present.

  • At 3:10 he shows what you should not do. LOL that is the exact thing what you SHOULD do. Add body rotation to that move and you are square at impact.

  • Huh, what a load of crap...

This is good stuff IF you want to become hooker from slicer. Otherwise stay away.

  • actually this will make you pull and slice more

  • This video was very informative! 5/5

Btw you can check out my videos for some more golf action!

    Just klick on my name

  • Golf playing will be easy. Watch on golffitchall . blogspot . com

  • A buddy of mine (another old pro) has a system that guarantees you'll break 80 in a couple weeks. golferbreak80dotcom

  • Mr. Lubin thank you very much for all your videos best tips ever...your the best!!

  • The guy is right, but there is timing in every other sport. I agree it's a feeling. The easiest way to learn a good release it to take a divot (big divot) in front of the ball. The only way to do this is to keep your head BEHIND the ball. That is what allows u to release the club in front of the ball. Cheers!

  • see the thing is (I finally shot in the 70's yesterday, 77, i'm stoked) this is good but too much thinking. You can just feel the release as opposed to "muscling it". That's my take.

  • this guy is VERY informative! Im psyched!

  • I really like this guy's golf tips--can't wait to impliment them today! I got a LOT of bad advice last time (too many teachers)-this guy is straight forward.

  • why is the grip and grip pressure extremely important to hitting good golf shots? not 1 player on the PGA tour grips the club the same...

  • you sir are a moron

  • most begginers slice the ball as a result of not releasing the club head? really!? nothing to do with the fact most begginers reverse pivot, pick the club up on the backswing rather than turning with their shoulders then come straight over the top striking the ball with an open clubface on an out to in swing path creating left to right spin on the ball. therefore slicing... ?

  • if your hands get ahead of your sholder turn you will hook using this method impact is sorted out during the set up by something we dont see very often these days THE WAGGLE what ruins the shot is if you dont hit thruogh by keeping your right arm straght which automatically turns the hands over just nice, the only swing thought i use during this instance is to point the butt end ofthe club down to where the ball was works for me

  • You're right..but right arm straight can cause a fllip too. His method keeps the left wrist flat which is important...if the left wrist breaks down....DISASTER....including hooks, fat shots, etc.

  • hi could you have a looka t my golf swing im fourteen thanks

  • At impact, think of your RIGHT hand moving faster than the left hand -- almost like the right hand is moving UNDER the left hand (just from impact to about six inches after impact). This creates the "slap" teachers talk about. If you do this in slow motion -- you will see the straight left wrist at impact quickly break ...

  • That's a good tip on how to get a flippy release! The right hand doesn't move UNDER the left hand--that will cause pure left wrist breakdown. The right forearm crosses over the left forearm. If you want to teach the proper release, I'd prefer someone using the split hand drill. It is a great drill on teaching proper release.

  • you are correct sir. forearms not hands.

  • this is wrong because his hands r breaking down...Your hands should always B foward of the club head....and never FLICK at the ball at impact

  • his hands are forward of the clubhead. if you look at his impact point, his hands are up around his left leg with a forward leaning shaft.

his hands are simply properly leading and squaring the clubface

  • What's wrong with my swing?

  • There could be a number of things wrong with it. We have no idea who you are or what kind of swing you have...

  • tough concept for all but advanced golfers to identify with.................that's how good players trap and compress the ball when both hand are really working in unison.................club also delofts as well to create a piercing ball flight

  • I like the Titleist bag! Nice product placement ;)

  • Thanks so much for the lessons! Great explanations, and really useful tips.

  • yes my friend it seriously helped my game and i play of an 11, before this tip i could not hit the sweet spot of my long irons the rest is history, take care now.

  • dude i have the same problem as u.. my long irons i feel like i cannot hit them properly.. like my 6 iron is my max distance iron ..5 4 and 3 seem not to go as far as they should and rnt being hit in the sweet spot it feels like.. what did u change in ur game to help u?

  • hi would u be able to go on my profile and look at my golf swing and tell me what im doing wrong!

  • I'm a 10 handicapper and whenever my swing goes south, I watch your video to get back in sync. This is a good instruction to hit the ball crisp like you see pros doing on the range. Thank you.

  • Thanks for these videos! I'm considering taking golf lessons and your videos are providing with me with some good backround knowledge and tips before I start my training. Thank you and please keep on posting more videos!

  • club face square becuase you rotate your body. I basically just keep my left wrist flat and keep acceralating through impact. The wrist will unhinge automatically and properly with your body rotation. Just don't put any tension in your hands and arms. If you hit it fat, turn body a bit faster through impact zone (or pull your hand down a bit softer). If you hit it thin, try pull your hand down a bit harder, or slower your body turn. Just my personal fix.

  • A "fat" and "thin" shot are the same error. The apex (lowest part) of the swing is behind the ball in both shots. With a "thin" shot, the only difference is there is no divot taken. Coming down 'on top' of the ball is not a thin shot, and not many people can do that with a normal setup. You would have to have more lag than Garcia/Hogan to do that. Reference "The Physics of Golf."

  • Hey! it's excellent!

could u plz advise that what kind of videos are good for a golf beginners?

it will be good if any of you could send me the link!!!!!!!

  • Don't you think the turning of the body creates the release? I would hit a wicked hook if I rotated my hands at and through impact like that.

I swing more connected and let the turning of my body (and more importantly shoulders) square my clubface and not my hands and wrists.

  • Thank you Albert.

  • why would you want to roll the 3rd accumulator when you can hit draws without rolling it? this only would produce inconsistencies with contact.

  • for good instruction type in "clemshaw" under youtube search. Shawn clement is a top 25 golf instructor and has over 100 videos... and has a tremendous talent for describing how the golf swing should feel.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THESE!!! Exspecially this one!

This is my exact problem. Im just getting back into the game after not playing for 10 years. I stopped when I was 13, and deffinatly wasnt that good even then. I just shot a 6 over on the front nine at the local golf course. I was taking into consideration my shanks on my drives. You may have just created an Ace driver. Cant wait to try it out tomorrow, the rollover effect.

    Thanks again,

    George

  • Outstanding instruction! Clear and conscise. Thanks for taking the time to post these. They are truly helpful!

  • thanks bud

  • Thank u for clearifing n keep up the great work!

  • I've heard my uncle say that most golfers either swing to Draw or Fade the ball... What direction is each and how do I do each?

  • good god do not listen to this man. anyone who teaches you to roll your hands through the ball like he demonstrated you should steer well clear off

  • i have to agree, the idea is your arms are catching up to your lower body, what he's saying is technically correct but it needs to be tied together with the legs

  • Its actually correct. Ben Hogan talks about rolling the face open. If you watch most of the pro's in slow mo, you'll see this action. Except they do it natuarally.

  • show me one decent tour pro who rolls their hands from open to closed and i'll give up teaching golf

  • Tiger Woods

  • andreas you clearly know nothing about tigers swing. type in tiger torso on here and watch it. thats clubhead release, not the f++king roll of hands this nob is talking about

  • You're the knob. Even the video you're talking about shows exactly what this clip is talking about. Maybe if you played the game, you'd understand.

  • what do you play off tkvor?

  • Sorry - bad mood that day.

  • Rodney Pampling. One of the best drivers on tour . Check out his swingvision here on youtube.

  • the first thing the comentator said was he has a unique move. your right he rolls it open in the takeaway but he didnt roll it shut through the ball. the club is square a long way into his follow through

  • I do the move and I'm hitting a draw now. The only difference is, I turn my body through the ball and I "feel" as though the back of my lead hand leads the target and it points down at a little above my waist.

  • Ilikeiwetto is right. Most good golfers don't consciously roll their hands over. Like Hogan said, to try and "control the clubface through impact is folly." The club face releases as a natural result of the body driving the arms and arms driving the hands. It is the natural chain reaction Hogan wrote about.

However, the club's a two levered tool and does need to "release," but never think you will play consistent golf simply by using your hands only, you will experience only inconsistency.

  • Watch Kevin Na's SwingVision. And a lot of Swingvision clips, they show what this guy is talking about. I tried to study their releases and they do it differently than amateurs.

  • There's no wrist action needed in order to square off the club face at impact, it has to do with lower body action...

  • agree, I just release the club at impact, then rotate my right forarm over my left right after impact.

  • I like the analogies you make in teachings and what it should feel iike. I will try the tee trick....I hope I don't put my eye out.

  • The best instruction for clubface release.

I hope you will post more...

    Swing plane..and hip turn..

  • GPOLARIS67, your hiting the divot before the ball becuase you are not shifting your weight from your right side to your left side during your downswing, to a balanced position. the flex in your knees is good!!

  • Excellent video instruction and helpful tip/trick to remember post-impact

  • |MKMMM

  • I tend to take a large divit before the golf ball. Could it be that I am not rotating my body or over squating at the knees?

  • Thank you for the lesson. Your video has been added to GOLF LESSONS (dot) TV.

  • excellent video

  • nice tip i enjoyed the video thanks for posting !
