@Sunflowers159 I've sung the piece several times, in college choir and church; I've sworn to come back in the next life as a baritone just to sing the Libera Me. (I'm stuck in the soprano section this time around.)
@DarkChaosSilver they were, as i am, looking for "Libera Me (From Hell)" the Gurren Lagann song. It is amusing to those who accidentally stumble on to this that they aren't the first ones.
duuddee i sang this song in chorus/choir at school, and just now i was singing it in my house rlly loudly.. and my mama goes all im not in church stop singing all creepy.. bahahaha.. ohh well.... lmaoo
In the sheet it says fff. That means "SING LIKE YOU'RE GETTING PAID FOR IT!!!". I have to say my school quire's preformence was much better than this... =]
@godag45 sorry, I tried to get someone to film it but nobody I know did. It was amazing though, we're putting up Verdi's Requiem next year, I'll try to get some of that =]
@SolemnCollector This has nothing to do with that soundtrack piece save for the fact that "Libera me from hell" borrows the same text that this uses (roman catholic mass requiem).
I never in my wildest imagination thought that TTGL, or any super robot fans for that matter, would overrun a classical music post on YouTube. Lucifer must be freezing down there. Furthermore, I'm more inclined to believe that the version of Libera Me that was sampled was Verdi's version.
Anyway, this song is a classic that I've sung many times over the years in different choirs. The soloist messed up the timing at the beginning.
I sang thins when we did this for the cleveland orchestra youth chorus last year and when 1:46 came the risers were shaking from the organ at severance hall.
@cityhunter04 I know it was sampled in Gurren Lagan (quite epically I might ad) and I first heard it there. But I think that this is a beautiful piece of music and feel more cultured and wider experienced for hearing it. It is uplifting and inspiring and I can see how the creators of the anime in question were likewise inspired and in turn inspired me more (Spiral Power?).
In my opinion, although the singing itself is very good I don't think that the song itself is "angry" enough. Although I know that is completely the wrong word to use. Also both the choir and the soloist breath at some odd times. Other than those, actually minor things it's a pretty good performance.
I did a concert last night with the Girl Choristers and we did Faure's Requiem, Mass in G shubert, The souls of the righteous. I'm only 12 ! What a concert! :)
My college's orhestra played this last year. I played bass trombone that concert, and this was the only movement I played on. But that's fine, that way I could enjoy the rest of it.
part of the reason you say he has a tenor sound, is because he uses weird resonance in teh front, and a nasal quality to the sound, so it is not balanced with space in the back, to make more full and richer baritone-quality to his sound.
I sang this Requiem with my high school choir in 2006. This movement will always be my favorite. This performance does a good job of capturing its power.
Singing this while in the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys was one of the best experiences of my entire life, and I really wish I could go back to singing...
isnt it? this is my favorite movement of the peice, and it waas so easy to just be passionate with, we sang it at carnigee hall about a year ago. the performance kinda blew itself cuz the other groups didnt kno their music but i still love this piece
there are so many pronunciations of Latin... I studied it and we would get into scuffles about it all the time, especially singing Latin versus speaking Latin. *shakes fist at dead languages*
Traditionally we sang this at my school every rememberance day, and the whole school would join in at that point. There is nothing more moving to me than the sound of 1500 people singing this in a packed chapel.
Baritone Solo: Libera me Domine de morte aeterna In dies illa tremenda, In dies illa Quando coeli movendi sunt, quando coeli movendi sunt, et terra Dum veneris judicare Saeculum per ignem Translates: Deliver me, O Lord, from eternal death on that fearful day, when the heavens and the earth are moved, when you come to judge the world with fire.
I sang the Faure Requiem years ago. It's a beautiful work and I would love to have a chance to sing it again some time.

Libera me, Domine, de morte aeterna, in die illa tremenda:
Quando caeli movendi sunt et terra.
Dum veneris judicare saeculum per ignem.
Tremens factus sum ego, et timeo, dum discussio venerit, atque ventura ira.
Quando caeli movendi sunt et terra.
Dies illa, dies irae, calamitatis et miseriae, dies magna et amara valde.
Dum veneris judicare saeculum per ignem.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis.
