now that china's team was disqualified, i just wish that the australian team had been given the opportunity to compete in the team final at their home olympics
if it's the Russians' sport, why are we currently #1 in the world? why did we place above them at the 2004 Olympics? Maybe it WAS the Russians' sport, but not anymore. they're good, but we're currently better. probably cuz their system fell apart. and the russians sob at silver - they cry too. watch any competition - gymnasts messes up, gymnast sad.
ummm becuase you have russian coaches in america. that's why? everyone admits it. i'm american and i know america wouldn't succeed nor would other countries if not for the knowledge of gymnastics by russian, romanian and chinese sources. don't get cocky if you are biased and don't know the facts. it's an embarrassment for yourself and for our country.
wow - didn't deny that other countries contribute to our country! the head coach at MY gym was the person who was the personal coach of oksana omelianchik, 1985 co-world champion. obviously i recognize the contribution others give.
but that time has PASSED, my friend. "russia" never truly dominated, it was the USSR. that system is gone. time to let go of the past and move on... it's not i who am the embarrassment.
obviously russians dominating the sport is no longer the case, and I think you misunderstand what the saying means "russian sport" everyone i know of considers gymnastics a russian sport. i've heard some say a romanian sport. but any gymnastics fanatic that I know will say that the sport of gymnastics was defined Russians (obviously beginning at a time when they were part of the USSR) "it wasn't russia it was the USSR." really???? *rolls eyes.
you can roll your eyes, stomp your feet, even jump up & down, but the distinction IS important because russia itself - frankly - is falling apart as far as gymnastics. they didn't even MEDAL at the olympics this year! the soviet system - which INCLUDED the russians - was far beyond greatness, they performed in a way i think will always be greatly admired. but when the soviet system fell, the grip loosened & is being lost.
the coaches you refer to that contribute - were of the SOVIET system.
how old are you? honestly? you are still throwing punches in the wrong direction. everyone knows russia slowly lost power in the sport after the ussr, particularly due to the mass exodus and slump funds. when i say gymnastics is a russian sport, i'm saying the sport was defined by russia. i could care less if they medal. the fact of the matter is any success in gymnastics now can practically find its root in Russia! don't bother replying as i am sure you are still not getting it.
i'm 22 and i'll reply if i want to, i don't do what you tell me to. russia & the ussr made gymnastics what it is - it would NOT be where it is without the contributions of the russians! gymnastics was forever changed by their perfection, innovation, dedication, and commitment.
i just found out this morning that next thursday, december 4, i'm having brain surgery - i could die - i'm done debating this, life's too short.
goshh it wasn't defined by russia!!! it was defined ,call it like that, by ussr!!! ussr was composed by many countries....and the best gymnasts of ussr were from ukraine, not from russia....and like you said...SOVIET system, not russian system...
yeah its really a russian sport especially after at 2007 worlds ekatrina kramareno didnt run past the horse on the teams last vaultand touched it and got a 0 and put russi ain last place...yup totally a russian sport
Ksenia Semenova is still World and European Champion on bars and European Champion on beam. Russia no longer dominate but they are still the most beautiful to watch when at their best...they were unlucky not to get the bronze in Beijing but for Pavlova's errors they would have done. Semenova, Pavlova, Afanasova and Grenekova are amazing gymnastic and America's top gymnast Luikin is produced from two of the finest Russian gymnasts...
wow Elena Zamolodchikova can speak english...who new??? they should of used her as a translator for when the news about the incorrect set vault was told to Khorkina...
