My great grandparents came to Cuba from Spain because Cuba was a beautiful and promising place. My grandparents walked those same streets in this video in the 1940's and 1950's, lived in a beautiful and democratic island, had hopes and dreams.
To think that their Cuba does not exist anymore brings tears to my eyes. My God, Communism destroyed it all. Even if you try to rebuild it, you will never regain that culture, that spirit, and that magic that made Cuba great. Makes me want to cry.
@osallent .I feel the same sadness as you when I think of my grandparents and all of my relatives who were part of the great Cuba of the past, the Republican Cuba.Everything happens for a reason and eventhough it hurts like a mother we must accept that what happened in Cuba was also for a reason and that there is a lesson to be learned from all of this.if we focus hard enough and we give it time the lesson will be in front of our very eyes.
Well...Something must have been wrong when Castro triumphed and was supported by millions of Cubans then...What do u think? Was it really a paradise island..? Doubt it...
Thank you for this video. I have watched multiple home videos that my family has taken from the pre-revolution era and Cuba was once such an amazing place to be. It is a shame to see it in its present state. Again..Thank you.
You know, you can hate Castro all you want. Heck, I'll even hold him down for you while you kick him. However, when you're done, I want you to the same thing to the USA. They both fucked Cuba. They both used Cuba for their own personal greed. Cuba belongs to Cubans. Leave these people alone.
They have been left alone. Everyone ignores the obvious mess that exists thanks to that regime just to continue to talk about the US. And all this talk from people whom 1. are probably not Cuban and 2. don't even know the history about of Cuba. I wish Cubans one day could benefit from their rich Country, even if my parents never get to see it.
@karenpino You are not intellectually honest. This is the problem that plagues most Cubans in exile and their children. They simply swallow and regurgitate the Miami Mantra without doing any investigation or thinking on their own. This is a complex issue. Far too complex for the average American who is preoccupied watching 500 channels of cable TV. An EMBARGO is NOT leaving them "alone". If you want to tangle with me on history (Cuban and global), I would be only too glad to debate you.
If you're Cuban: Hopefully one day, Cuban-Americans, and American soldiers can retake Cuba! American troops being there, the invasion won't fail this time! ;)
Gracias por compartir esas vistas personales (no comerciales) de la CUBA que fue y que nosotros los que la conocimos de muy joven todavia recordamos como un sueño de la infancia.

askme- If your question is genuine, and you wish to be intellectually honest, the answer is that the USA tried to do to Cuba what it did to most of Latin America. Of course, you can hate Castro all you want, and I'll even hold him down for you while you kick him. However, I wonder why you don't hold the USA for doing the same thing? They both raped your beloved Cuba. You see, to outsiders, it seems that you don't really mind being raped...as long as the guy doing it has LOTS of money.
You said that before Kastro regime Cuba was exploited by USA. How can you explain that despite that "exploitation" Cuba economy grows, Cuba was a wealthy country, with high social and cultural level and made a steady progress. During 50 years of Kastro dictatorship Cuba received economic help (hundred of billons) from the Soviets and became the most poor country in latin america ?.
Don't compare the manipulation of the United States in cuba back in the 1800s to the STALINIST, TOTALITARIAN, GENOCIDICAL GOVERNMENT OF FIDEL.
"You see, to outsiders, it seems that you don't really mind being raped...as long as the guy doing it has LOTS of money" no idea was that was suposed to mean?!
@askme4answers555555 Fidel Castro, the Cuban missile crisis, and Soviet Communism are what happened to Cuba, so unfortunate. It was such a beautiful place.
@wA7racer Yes, 1 dollar in Cuba woths more then 1 dollar in USA... The truth is 99% alphabetization, Free healthcare, not 1 person dies of Hunger in Cuba (appart from the "Political Prisioner" that made agression assault, and had illegal possession of firearms... but everyone says he is a "Political Prisioner"... I DK why the Cubans treated his brain tumor in 2009 then, if he was a "political prisioner" they should have let hum dyed.... (im beeing ironic in "letting him die )
@wA7racer Why don´t u criticize CHile, where so many chilf
dren dye of Hunger, despite USA telling CHile is a Developed Country... Why dont you criticize Brazil where thousands go to bed with Hunger??? What is your defenition of development? Development to you is a country that has cellfone and iphone? For me development is Education, Healthcare, food, shelter, work for everyone, then comes the rest...
Why can America invade Iraq but not help free the Cubans? Cugba pre Fidel was the epitome of culture and hipness... tropical splendor... Cuban cigars, Cuban heels, Cuban rum, Cuban music, Cuban dance, Cuban food, need I say more?
Oh please. What crap. Before Fidel and the revolution, which is supported by the people, there was massive corruption with the mob, corrupt businesses etc. It was not some paradise. Now the people have free health care, education, homes, food.
Psst before the revolution there was massive corruption by the businesses. What happened there makes what is happening in the U.S. now look like toddler shit.
Nice job, Christian! How long was your great-uncle there? The newest car I see is a '59 Chevy at 2:08. Was he there during the takeover on New Year's Eve '58?

@askme4answers555555 It's heart-breaking. I visit Cuba quite often & i think it is so sad that a country & a people are living in such hardship.
Most of all, i feel that the lives of the people are 'on-hold', suspended in a system that they do not want, but has been forced on them.
I have handed out 10 CUC to a lady with 3 kids & you would think i had given them $1000.
It is all so very, very sad.

@NewBornpt They might not die of hunger (?) but that's hardly the measure of freedom.
Lets face it, you are doing your best to defend the indefensible.
There is no freedom of movement, no free-speech, no opportunity to better yourself if you live in Cuba.
Beautiful country, nice people, very unjust government.
The fact that they have so many political prisoners says it all.

Interesting views, and the last scene with
the kid that doesn't want to eat reminded me of a similar family scene on the
streets of Havana 1950s. I would have
preferred the great cuban music of that
era, such as GREEN EYES, The Peanut vendor or quiereme mucho.
