Good video, great machine. Brings it all back. We had 14 at Molinare! Tip - try adjusting the "sch" control on the front panel, its way out! You might avoid a flash or shift during playback.
Thank you very much for your positive feedback. It give me an energy to create another demo videos of intems that i have in my collection. (VO-2850, BVH-200, BVH-2000, Marconi Mark VIII - three plumbicon color camera, black and white TESLA Superorthicon camera from 1960's) For user hdvs: side cover panels are original. This VPR3 was used as a stand alone machine. Please give me your email, I will send you some photos.
Yes you should make one! I have a LOT of experience with that old 2850 top loader, friend. You will get extra points if you have the matching RM-400!!!! Do you? See video response.
This is the very best gear demo I've ever seen on YouTube, hands down. We don't need any jabbering, intros. I love how you edited all these closeups together in sync with the machine's various (complex) operations. And the scene where we see the pressure gauges is just terrific! I said to myself, "he's going to adjus.. yup he did. 70 PSI, and fluctuating slightly. Cool!" Nice work friend! And of course, a nice machine. What will you do with it? A transfer business?
Hi, nice unit! Are the metal side panels original? I've never seen them before as all the VPR3 I've seen in my life, were rack mounted. Could you kindly send me some pictures of them, just to see their shape and where screws are placed to tighten them to the metal body of the recorder? Thanks!
Fantastic edit machine! We had 6 available for C-mode auto assembly of CMX OMNI edit list - man, could these things honk through tape!! Amazing! That Zeus TBC was the best. Thanks for posting this - great memories!
I wonder why, sometimes, why a museum like the Smithsonian doesn't have something like this on display...although I believe they have ONE two-inch "Quad" VTR, a VR-1000.
There are 2 on Ebay at the moment for $250 each, a pity I live so far away otherwise I'd have snapped them up quickly, especially since they're Zeus TBC equipped!
This VPR3 run with sofware version 6.2, but some chips are labeled version 3.2 (I have downloaded all the eproms from VPR3 on PC ). AMPEX TBC-6 is used. Iam looking for service manual of this TBC. Haven't you?
You downloaded them? With a PROM reader? Very interesting! Mine are both version 7.3, they removed the probe diagnostic menu along with some other items, I'm not sure what else precisely. One of mine has TBC6, one has TBC7, the VPR-80 has a TBC80. I have manuals for the TBC80, they are common in the basic circuitry but memory control and velocity compensation seem very different. Still, it's better than nothing and has been in a big help in the problems Ive had with the TBCs in the last few days
I've been working on it when I worked in AMPEX as Engineer

That's a great looking machine! Can you tell what version software it's running? What model TBC do you have it paired up with? Cheers, Bryan
