Install the Vitual Box Guest Additions software. When the virtual machine is running you'll find an option in the "Devices" menu at the top of the screen to install the Guest Additions software.
This downloads the CD iso image and mounts it to your VM. Simply open the disc in your VM and run the installer for your version of Ubuntu. There will be a 64-bit option or a 32-bit option.
Once this software is installed you should be able to change the screen resolution of your virtual machine.

When i go to maake my VM full screen the display is only a box, it does not take up the whole screen, how can i change this setting?
