  • Gah, I had this game...

  • heh, loved having the voice synthesizer for this game :)

  • What´s the name of that music? really great!

  • That takes me back. It was better with the speech synthesizer.

  • random I think, though it warns you.. LOOK OUT!

  • This game is relentless... I could never beat Everest, always got mowed down by the Yeti LOL :)

  • awwww man so close! i thought you were going to make it! i played the hell out of this game back in the day. i forgot what to do with the baby birds. could you post it with the game sounds? :)

  • one of the first games i ever played and truly the game that inspired me to become a programmer. nice! :)

  • Awesome video!! I remember this game, it was epic....

  • This game kinda reminds me of "Mountaineer Mack"

(1986) Ahoy!/Ion International, Inc. for the Commodore 64. I love "climber/climber" games. Crazy Climber (1980) Nihon Bussan (plus many of the port to home consoles/PC's), is a favorite, as are 2 more C-64 games, "Fire Trap" (1987) Electric Dreams Software, & "Climber!" (1985) Computer Gamer [Argus Specialist Publications Ltd. I love the TI99. It had some amazing graphics for the period.

  • I love it! Perfect combination of the game with this piano music. What is it? This is one of the earliest games I remember on my first computer.

  • Has anyone ever seen a screenshot of the yeti? I used to play this game all the time but never could get to Everest. Entertaining to a point, but quickly became extremely frustrating.

  • I love it!

Which came first? This or Crazy Climber?

The music you chose goes suprisingly well with this game.

  • Crazy Climber 1980

    Alpiner 1982

Crazy Climber for the win :)

  • "Did you mean to do that?"

  • Nice, can you post it with the old sound?

I love it when the guy said "heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelP"

  • Thanks for posting this. This game was a lot of fun. The skunks gazing you, the yeti, the snakes, the yeti, this was so dope back then ! I used to play parsec a lot too.

  • Damn. I still remember the rad music, too.

  • This was the first computer and first game i ever played...I have fond memories of this...wheres the music though??? I loved the music!

  • I will be redoing this with sound soon :) My video recording set up didn't do sound when I made this.

  • I was still in diapers when I first played Alpiner. I have very fond memories of playing this game! Thanks so much for sharing this video.

  • HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLP!!!!! That was such a fun game. It seems like so long ago. I guess it was.

  • I think if you made it to the top of Mt Everest you see the abominable snowman riding some skies from right to left. After you finish the mountain you start back on Mt Hood but it is WAY harder.

  • Yes! The abominable snowman would make an appearance. Scared me as a kid and when I told my brothers they didnt believe me.

  • No speech sythesizer? I could never make it up Everest myself. Anyone see the yeti? I never did.

  • I have the speech synth just my recording program didn't do audio. I've figured out a better one now but I haven't redone the video.

  • holy crap i haven't seen this in years. too bad you have no sound - the sound is awesome *hums the song*

  • WOW.....does this bring back some memories. My dad bought a TI when they first came out. I believe it came out before Apple IIe. We had one of those too. HOW we have advanced is amazing!

  • Loved this game. It played Anitra's Dance while you climbed.

  • I remember this game well, it was my first game with the Texas, beats the Speccy !!!

  • Did anyone ever beat this game? I'd get so frustrated on the last level. I think this was the first video game I hated. Showing the climber as he fell all the way down was particularly sadistic.

  • Great move, sport! LOL

  • oooohnnnnoooooo

  • The greatest game ever made in the history of mankind! Not really! Probably the first game I ever played and there was never another game like it. Made me laugh harder than any game I ever played. I used to kick the bear on the butt and my character would die. I thought this was really funny at age 7. And the speech

synthesizer and the graphics being a slow 16-bit this system still blew everything else away at the time.

  • I had the computer and I had htis game - never really enjoyed this one though. Why no sound?

  • the recording program i used didn't record sound, I plan a remake with sound maybe even today :)

  • onward and upward

  • Did you mean to do that?

  • do what? :0)

  • That's what the game says when you goof and fall down to the base of the mountain. At least mine does. ;-) 99'er

  • Oh yeah, and nice one sport!
