They are creating a bar under the health bar called the soul bar which depletes as you block. Once it's gone the opponent will be able to do an instant kill attack or critical finisher as it is called. They did that to keep it more offensive and prevent people from blocking the entire time.

they have a new finishing move that you can use when the gauge for i get full. because of this gameplay will be more aggressive since you need to attack in order to raise the gauge . guarding lower the gauge.
