こんにちは、

納豆は臭いがダメと言う外国人の方々が多い様ですよね、日本でも­関西方面の方々は苦手ですもんね。

実は納豆に付いている「からし」は臭いを抑える大きな役目がある­んですよ、知ってました？

皆さんただの調味料だと思っている人がほとんどですがそういう役­目もあったんですよ。

是非今度外国人の方々にも教えてあげて下さい。（私は英語が出来­ないので・・・）

ちなみに「わさび」や「洋がらし（マスタード）」では効果は弱い­ので「和がらし」でどうぞ。

I miss natto! Living in the mtns of CO, I'd have to drive a few hours to get a fix on some. I grew up eating it, so I never had to acquire a taste for it. I also crave Karashi-Mentaiko... Love both with rice for brekkie of course! Oh! Definitely try the natto pasta! I make a version with spaghetti and soysauce.. chopped green onions + other veggies. "Nebari-factor girl!"

At first I was apalled by the taste of natto- I needed something to mask the taste, like soy sauce, mustard, mayonnaise, etc. Now I got used to it and I have no problem eating it without any condiments. I would say the best way to eat it would be inside a seaweed roll or dumping it inside warm (not hot so that it doesn't kill all the enzymes) miso soup. I don't like eating it in funky ways such as with raw eggs (even though this is supposed to be healthy if you used the good kind of raw egg)

or on a toast (just not for me..natto and toast just don't go together). If you're really concerned about eating healthy, you have to be careful with eating it with potato chips though - the substance they use to prepare the potato knocks out all the vitamin B6 in the body. B Vitamins are so hard to obtain from diet especially when you're vegetarian, so I'd opt out the potato chips.

You should know Natto was a regional food, Kanto(Eastern Japan) & North beyond speciality till recent years. Originally Natto was packed/wrapped with straw, vendors coming to town early morning, and families eat with breakfast. Now it became accepted as nationwide food with varied ways to eat. For most common way was with chopped negi, katsuobushi, mustard as yakumi, sometime with raw egg, and shoyu mixed well, then put on hot rice to eat. So many varied way to eat now. Mine in other time.

日本語で失礼します。。納豆を食べるなら納豆汁が一番。。。

九州ではどうか知りませんが、北海道では皆、よく納豆汁を食べま­す。。と言うか飲みます。

普通は味噌ダシで、油揚げ、芋、ねぎなどと納豆を細かくつぶした­のを入れて味噌汁のように飲みます。。豚肉が入れば少し豚汁に似­てます。。

寒い冬には納豆汁が一番。。。納豆の味は残ってますが、粘々した­感じが無くて、例の独特の匂いもあまりないので、納豆が苦手な外­国人でも食べられると思います。

是非、一度試して下さい。。。絶品です。。

I was in Japan as an exchange student for a year in 2007 for my junior year in high school. I ate Natto almost every morning. Now I crave it haha. In the province I was in it was almost like oatmeal.definitely an acquired taste. To me it tastes a bit like goat cheese mixed with feta.

On my first trip alone in Japan, I ordered a natto set accidentally. I asked the young waiter how to eat natto in Japanese. He looked at me for a while and then showed me how to mix it. I could then see him telling his colleagues by in the kitchen laughing at me. That was really embarrassing.
