I think people were just used to katie on Today! From 1991-2006! thats a long ass time to become accustomed! and then BAM! she's over to a night time broadcast..darker and more serious. She isn't cut out for it in my opinion...but kudos to her for trying. Its sad that its too late for her to go back. I think people like Meredith too much now. Katie is a celebrity now...too much for anchoring. Her time in the profession is over.

Katie Couric should not be on CBS News. It has nothing to do with gender! For example, replace Katie with Paula Zahn or Elizabeth Vargas, the ratings would go up. A lot of people were upset when Bob Schiefer left. Also, quite a few responded to CBS website at their displeasure when CBS hired her. People simply DO NOT LIKE Katie Couric. She is not serious news journalism material, more like "fashion news" like the silly stuff she did on The Today Show.

pretigiousb03, while it is true that CBS's previous low ratings and bad reputation does precede them, you can't have it both ways. NBC's high morning ratings have always been there, and they are still there. Ratings are elusive for many reasons, but Katie is not part of any solution.  She should never have been hired by NBC, much less CBS. Even her experience with CNN was mired by failure.

She'll go there, hang around the Green Zone for a couple days, and then come back with all of her "insights". When I was serving in Iraq, we called people like Katie "hotel reporters." Nah, we hate her just as much as you do... or at least I do. I'm very liberal and I think she's little more than a silly windbag. She has no insight to offer, and no real reporting will be done. Right, and you should realize how unprofessional and unethical that kind of immature and irresponsible behavior plays out in the real world. That's something that even cub reporters generally overcome before they even show up for journalism class. It isn't rocket science, but for Couric to have not yet learned impartially is equivalent to an astronaut that hasn't heard of a countdown.

The only thing worse than hiring Couric in the first place is continuing in denial until she takes the ship down with her. There are countless men and women in top television markets and networks that are much more qualified and experienced, no to mention more appealing and likeable to both the audience and to fellow journalists.

There are plenty of both men and women with all the qualifications and quality factors that would make them appealing. It's easy for Katie to blame it on audience prejudice, but that's unproductive spin. She is putting the final nail in the coffin for CBS as they spin and debate the issue, instead of correcting it. Until now, television stations and networks have dropped people and shows when they didn't perform. It's accountability time.

when people watch the news, they want to feel like they are listening to someone who knows what the are talking about. whatever one may have thought of the politics of brokaw/jennings/rather, they were serious journalists with global scope and insight. the current crop just does not have it, and couric is by far the worst of the three. put christiane amanopour or lara logan in the CBS anchor chair and that would be worth watching.

Indeed there are many qualifies women. Katie isn't one of them.  She was an underperformer on the Today Show. While her ratings were declining even there, NBC had a very strong history in the morning with great affiliates, a high budget across the board, very strong and expensive marketing and advertising, a great lead-in and a strong continuous program lineup in the morning. She also had help with a co-anchor and even a tri-anchor in most cases. Now she is having to stand on her own.

First, Katie isn't cute, if that has anything to do with it. She has had many years of grooming, pampering and being consulted and outfitted with the best clothing and makeup. She still isn't as pretty as any other woman would be with such attention. If it were about looks, then there are plenty of beautiful actresses in all ages. The fact is she is unappealing, unqualified and unprofessional, not to mention being an underperformer.

I think someone would much rather sit there for half an hour and watch katie couric rather than the other two news anchors on the other two networks.

Everything Katie knows about journalism could be written in ten feet letters with a wide paint brush on the back of a postage stamp. Couric's ratings are down for many reasons. Many of them have to do with her. She is not a good interviewer, storyteller, or writer and her concerns are so trivial. For example, she spent a countless number of weeks worrying about how to say goodbye at he end of her cast. It doesn't matter now. Her audience bet her to it.
