My Friend Jack (original version) - The Smoke [Yorkshire, England] - #1 German Charts in 1967 - "The MAIN melody is a bouncy, mid-tempo slice of pop-psychedelia. Nice guitar." - High In A Room-The Anthology (Disc 1 the 60's)-2002. NOTE: One of the greatest banned British singles of the 1966-1967 period. Was pulled off the U.K. market due to the drug connotations in the line "eats sugar lumps" (LSD). The song did have a silver lining, as it went to number one on the German charts in 1967.
I was down Camden at the wknd there, the DJ was playin some shit hot tunes. When he stuck this one on,i had to get a note of what it was cos its fuckin fantastic!
so !!! an unkwon fabulous psych music!!! very good, the sound of the guitar at start sounds like the start of see emily play (pink floyd with Syd Barrett).
Hello England. I stand corrected. After some research, I found out that these lads WERE from England, and found their fame a little lukewarm in the UK. It was in Germany that they were a little more appreciated. : P
The only reason this song didnt make it HUGE in the UK was that the BBC pulled it frm thier stations because of the drug refrences, this song was #1 for 7 weeks in Germany.
sounds abit like a old band called the who

NOTE: if you want to hear the song in stereo, paste &fmt=18 at the end of the URL then refresh.
The song peaked at #4 in France and has been a big success. Boney M butchered in 1980. The Smokes are forever the best in this!

I had so many years to hear that song.
In my opinion, it is a classic one for that era and one of the best songs ever.
Thank you for posting.
