I love the hell out of this cut. This reminds me of the major disco days, that I remember so well.I was only 11 years old when this cut came out but I remember it,my parents went and bought the 45. Then a few years later I went and got the album. They used to play this cut, when they were showing resutls and plays from some of the football games on the news, back in 79 and 80. This is a great song. Sarcastically,it hits home with me also because,I'm a giant being 6 foot 3 inches HA HA.FEE FIE FO FUM
I was attending P.S. 156 in The Bronx near Yankee Stadium when my moms brought this joint on 45 after hearing it on WBLS(107.5 FM). I'd like to give you my thanks for posting it.
@TOURQPOOL Cornelius was my grandfather. I didnt know him because he died when I was 2. But i havent seen The Devil's Gun cover in a while. My grandma has the record but thats all i know about it
1978 during the Fall listening to KSFX (San Francisco) while waiting to hear "Hey Mr. DJ (You Know How To Make Me Dance)" my favorite song of that time. Never knew who did this song. TGFYouTube and the Internet.
Hi all...I used to play this song ,from the late 70's, when I was a DJ at Pierce Street Annex in Anchorage, Alaska. I played it a bunch!! Go for it!!!
I used to mix it and this one got everbody off the dance floor,,, even the ugly ladys and the ugly dudes... Shake your grove thing,,oh yeaaaaaa,,hi,hi
@daveasan So you used this song to clear the floor? It seems more like it would have packed it. What club did you play at? Not that it matters, I was getting ready to go into the 8th grade when this was out. Sure would have loved to have gone to The Garage or 54. They were gone by the time I could have.
well well i thought this was the temptations(lol) i first heard this song on soul train(re runs) and the dance number they did on there was sooo incredible i rushed and bought the cd this was alos a time period where funk banks was doing this type of music but trying to put a message/politic/social conscience in they songs..says uzipolo king of decatur
i remember the summer of 77,,,,,,dancing in brevoort projects park in bklyn........omg,,,,,somebody call the fire dept cause this song is damn hot,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Could you believe I am looking for this song over 20 years. Today I remembered of the name of the group (cj & Co) and not sj & Co as I was thinking all these 20 years. Thanks
I was so young when this record came out and I am still amazed! It reminds me of the NY HUSTLE! I will never forget the clubs the fun the life and clothes of those days. This is it!
This brings back memories of Giraffe, Reflections, Casino 14, Ones all in the City (NYC that is). This song and the Ritchie Family, The Mexican, Donna of course, George Benson's Breezin'. Thanks for posting.
Just discovered this one.Apparently it went to No 36 in the US charts.I found Deadeye Dick lp a couple a months ago and its great! Also got Sure Can't Go To The Moon on a compilation which is great. Funky stuff
charles clark and corneius brown(bird)along with my father jerry sanders and the rest of cj and company had a bullet to number one I miss you Uncle charlie......
Complex and multi-layered. Much like modern trance.
And it sounds like a 70's film score.
It could be included in a movie that takes place in the 70's, but most likely, a modern band will redo it, adding their current musical interpretation of 70's music, unlike actual 70's music.
I was born in 1967. I was 11-12 yrs old when Disco was riding high. I used to watch all the disco dance shows, listened to Casey Kasem religiously and bought records every Sat with my $3 allowance. I used to dream about going to the discos. I had to settle for the roller rink. Luckily the gay bars here where I live brought back disco in 89-92 when I was still young enough 2 act like it was 1979 & be a big ol' disco queen. Love live disco!!!!
I thought it was great thumping disco music with the watts cranked up when i first heard it at dances (highschool) in 1977,, its still thumps, put your headphones on.... Iam not pro disco but check out that bass.
Incredible, haunting and enticing rhythms and vocals on this one. Clever lyrics made this song enjoyable to listen and dance to. The piano and drums weave thru the vocals and urge you to figure out whats really happening in this song. Totally brilliant !!
My hippie, loser roomate in college thought I was goner for liking this song. I told him CJ and Co rocks and disco rules! Thanks for posting this song, man. I'm back in the 70s again when booze was cheap and the women easy.
I had this 8 track in 1977, one of the greatest disco dance songs ever. There was another song on the 8 track, Body Contact Contract, that was also great. Wow this song puts me back in Big Daddy's on Okeechobee Road in W. Palm Beach, 1977.
DEVIL'S GUN RULES!!! Who ever posted this song I raise my chalise too!!!! I remember this song when I was a 15 year old kid just beginning to dig the disco scene. David
Back in the day there was a club in Boston called Lucifers. For a while the front doors from the street to the doors to the club used to play this in that walkway. And the walkway looked like you were in the barrel of a gun.
Still one of the best, most musically realized disco numbers ever recorded.....found it on Project Playlist as a Dennis Coffey project; can anybody corroborate this? Thanks
Too illll!! I've been waiting for this to go on youtube. Thank you so much. Does anyone have an MP3 of this song, I've been trying to find this for ages!!
Man!!!! This song is so "HOT". I remember almost passing out dancing the Latin Hustle to this song. Talk about getting you pumped!!! Thank you for posting this song.

Devil's Gun/We Got Our Own Thing/Sure Can't Go To The Moon hit #1 on the Billboard dance chart for 5 weeks in May 1977.
CJ & Company consisted of Cornelius Brown, Curtis Durden, Joni Tolbert, Connie Durden & Charles Clark.
