  • you are amazing i am doing pen now and it is beginners level i hope to get this skilled i really do i have more of a line sketchy feeling ,how do i get it so the skin looks like skin and not that i dont line the line sketchy feeling i wanna go for realism to its fullest can you give me some advice please thanks :)

  • WTF!!!!!!!!!!! :O....................

  • How the fuck is this art? He's just a human printer; an amazing skill, but certainly not artistic.

  • @FlameHue there are different kinds of art. not everything is tortured soul art with a deep meaning. Giotto won an artists job for the pope, outof many amazingly talented artists just by drawing a perfect circle unaided. I doubt you look at his art and say "how the fuck is this art?" ... im just sayin.

  • @SarahHeartsYou97 Giotto wasn't drawing perfect circles unaided, get your fucking facts straight. He was using laser guided brushes, and the fact that the pope didn't know what a laser was enabled Giotto to get away with it for so long.

  • I was just wondering does it make a huge difference on what type of paper you use? and how long did it take you to perfect your drawing/ shading techniques, I'm having hard time trying to use ballpoint pens as a medium effectively. sorry for asking so much questions

  • one wrong move and another paper is in the bin..=) nice job dude.

  • This looks like a real photograph! I know how hard this was lol. :)

  • Hey man, sorry to break the flow off all the compliments but what weight card do you use for these because I find that when I use the ballpoint it really starts to warp the card?? Might be me being too heavy handed I dont no. Amazing stuff though blew my mind!!

  • @laddermat I use Bleache White Bristol Card. It's about 350 gsm or more.

i used to warp the paper, thats why i use card.

  • @jamesMylne Just one question... How do you make beautiful art like this with just a ballpoint pen?!

  • @jamesMylne I know this video was made a while ago and you use card, but if I were to use paper, what would be the best surface to have under it? Would foamboard work for that? I don't know what would work best with pen :/ Great work though! you have inspired me to draw again!

  • That's absolutely insane.

  • dude that was fucking mad!!!

  • no fucken way!!! this is AMAZING!!!!!!

  • I think his Signature compliments his art - this is the first video I've seen of this artist and i honestly thought it was part of the picture - at first.

  • complimenti

  • Wow... I mean... WOW man. Thats so cool. What kind of ballpoint pen do you use? I mean, more litterally, what brand?

  • @Mistyrocks4ever Bic Cristal Medium

  • there's only one explanation...witch!!!!...or an extremely talented individual :P I'd tip my hat to you if I had one :D

  • @fuckyounotme1 Lool xD

  • What's the point of doing this with a ballpoint pen?

  • @thetawaves48 Why do people climb mountains, or run mile after mile for a marathon? - for the challange xD

  • i have no comments for you dude your are just a legend to me! SUBBING NOW!!!!!!

  • this is AMMMMAAAAZZZIIINNNGGG!!!!!!!!!! x

  • Love this music, who is it?

  • Dude, you're Awesome... You're brilliant... And you're patient... :))

  • you should draw Zoe Jakes that would be awesome. i tried to but my drawing came out kind of shitty so i'm going to try again today

  • That's really good mate, good job.

  • FUCK YOU, Because this is insane amazing!!!! holy shit wish i could draw like that good .damn I just like mess around with a gel pen... check my shit out ?

  • Guys it's not hard to figure out that he's doin this, Hell I've done art like this with a Pen and it's not a walk in the park, we can't just simply smudge it with a cutip or our finger, we have to work in many many layers of lines what really makes the difference is how much pressure you apply to the pen, and how many line you bleed out to each other over and over will create that tonal value, I'm 20 years old and have been using Pen since I was 9 years old, it takes weeks. andyearsofpractice.

  • Extraordinary how you artists who work in ink can achieve the subtle shading that you do. I only work in colored pencil and graphite pencil, and that seems more suitable for it. Excellent work.

  • lol been drawing with a pencil for 16 years...I think I made a mistake...

    Well, time for a change.

  • howd you get such precise penmanship?

  • I'm 16 just started wanting to do Black Ink drawings and this helped me out alot :). Thanks

  • iam 14 and staeted using illustration pens and would like to be good like that although most of the things i draw are surrealistic i never shaded in with pen as much as you did!! i hope by the time iam out of highschool i can score a nice illustrting university

  • i would get half way through and accidentally smudge it with my hand and be like FFFFFFFUUUUUUUU

  • how did you get the eye lashes like that and where did you develop this skill it's amazing

  • I do ballpoint drawings too, but yours make mine look like absolute garbage! LOL VERY good work my man!

  • This is amazing man :d wat pen did u use? from what i saw a Bic black?

  • Absolutely exquisite! Do you happen to have a Deviant Art account? I would very much like to follow you :)

  • ohmy fraking gosh how th eheck did you do thatÉ that is sooo awsome, your liek my hero! haha lol jk :P nice drawing :)

  • Do you ever get lines? Or emboss damage the paper by pressing too hard. That seems to be my problem.

  • What kinda paper you use for drawing? Looking AWESOME by the way!

  • If I were her I would buy this.

  • fucking hell you got some skills with a ballpoint pen! :P love it :P

  • /watch?v=LdTI14jdpIA <---- my ballpoint pen drawing :)

  • Ballpoint is my favorite medium right now! Once you find the right pen shading is so fun and much easier than you'd imagine with a pen. It is time consuming but that's what makes it so special, a LOT of time and thought goes into each part.

  • @8888WOLF8888 lucky for me the person who bought it didn't think so......

  • @jamesMylne haha xD

  • @jamesMylne ha ha awesome comeback

  • @jamesMylne i like it. looks modern and unique.

  • @jamesMylne How much do you sell your work for?

  • @8888WOLF8888 Your screen name is "gay", obtrusive and ruins youtube.

  • @8888WOLF8888 signatures can be used as balancing methods and I find actually adds unity and balance to this piece.

  • @8888WOLF8888 a sketch cant be gay and his work looks amazing .

  • Comment removed

  • @8888WOLF8888 its not just anyone that can draw like that,it takes time and expericence to get at that level of pen work, and who say he cant take the criticism its ovious that there is going to people that like it or dislike his work but who wouldnt like this. by trickery what do you mean.any ways his work is great period

  • @MrGayness There are many artists on here using projectors, tracing and grid techniques to produce drawings then using video editing to give the impression that their art was produced by free hand. I'm not criticizing this guys skill level or especially his patience to draw using ball point pen as it is a very tedious and risky process regardless of the technique used. My only criticism was that the center of attention is the graffiti tag, the portrait is like a side order of fries.

  • @8-------D ya im kinda done with this conversation ..(yawn)

  • @MrGayness I was finished with this conversation 18 months ago, until you started asking for my expert knowledge, now kneel down for me and open your mouth up wide

  • nice work but I would not waste my time using a ballpoint pen. Impressive but too time consuming for me. I'll stick to charcoal.

  • Uh, what pen is that? I mean, the ink is so strong. There must be something different...

  • i cannot believe that thats pen it makes me want to stop drawing for ever

  • how!?

  • ur fantastic!!

  • Wow, amazing. You must have patience to do this, but its worth it and the end though.

  • More, more, more :) Your creations are just amazing!

  • I like this one the best among those you've uploaded.

  • how did you do the shading that is from dark to light? very cool.. how many pen did you use? i cn only do it with a charcoal pencil..

  • @221care4u google: biro drawing technique and tips - should be top result

less than one pen. Pencil & charcoal are good too, except I find the black less bold and can capture less detail because of the blunt ends that wear down after short amount of time...

  • @jamesMylne nice work... trully an artist..=)

  • @jamesMylne how old are you?

  • @221care4u 28...

  • Your work is amazing!

What kind of paper do you use for these pen drawings?

  • @iamthemadvillain card, bleach white flat card (think it's Bristol Card)

  • Incredible man!

  • Wow...seriously some of the coolest artwork ever, and all done with a simple Bic...Kudos!

  • The shading and the eye are simply remarkable. You're an amazing artist.

  • can u show how u did the dark to light transitions with the pen??

  • @feliciakc1 I may do a short video on this soon, but i have a page that explains it, google: biro drawing technique and tips - should be top result

  • how many pens did you go through!!!!!

  • I've drawn with a ballpoint for years but have always been told not to do any serious work because they would fade under light. How do you get around this problem?

  • @phlattgetit - under direct sunlight everything fades!

I think its a bit mis understood. I have some biro drawings from 1993 that have not faded, but others a have slightly faded, I believe its to with touching the paper before/during/after the drawing. The oil in our skin reacts with the oil in the ink to create the fading/colouring - i make sure i never touch the ink or the paper.

  • talk about patience 0_0

  • Wow,, this is really impressive!

  • Please let me know what song this is. I think it is kick ass! Your art is amazing BTW. I used to like drawing with a pen as a kid. I used to do in such a way that I only had horizontal lines. I also had other perspective drawings I like to do with straight lines. I made 3 very sick perspective drawings, probably my best 3 ever and I let my high school art teacher keep them. I wish I had them still but I'm still glad she has and wanted them as well. later on.

  • @memorysticky Track is "Classical Feeling" by Lewis Parker. Lewis Parker is a British hip-hop artist/producer - it's a good track right

yeah, people often don't keep early drawings. I actually had a couple stolen whilst at school, and when i came back to pick up some paintings I did they had thrown them away. Best to keep everything. EVERYTHING, just in case. I've sold quite a lot of work recently and am running out of originals so am now using old ones I did ages ago to help with demand....

  • So it's all about line weight?

  • @18CaStRaDoMiS89 basically, yea

  • Hey, I'm 17 and I draw realistic things as well. After seeing your videos, I've switched to a ballpoint pen. I never knew it was possible to draw with a ballpoint without crosshatching so I tried looking as close as I can at the paper and drawing single lines next to each other. The problem is that no matter how hard I try, I can still see the strokes and it doesn't give me that perfect blending effect as it would be smudging graphite with my finger. How do you do it?

  • Hey. There's no simple answer I' afraid. I started drawing with ballpoint at 13, began using my stroke by stroke shading technique around 16. I'm now almost 29 so it has taken a while to get it where I'm at with it now. So I guess LOTS of practice is needed. Sounds like you've not been doing it long. My advice is to try your own techniques.... and there's nothing wrong with smudging pencil to get nice shades, I was doing that for a long while until i settled on ballpoint....

  • @jamesMylne Thank you for the advice. By the way, I'm starting to get it right! I can shade a lot better now except that I need more practice with the pressure. It's too easy to shade darker than needed .

  • hey is it posible u could cheek out some of my pics on my page, its just 1 vid, but has a few drawings, my mate made the vid so it has some random pic i didnt want up, if you can comment i would apreceate it.

  • @jamesMylne I drew ina very rough way in biro for my end of year project (4 years ago at uni) it has taken time to get used to the ... finer side of drawing with biro ... nearly 6-9 months of practice. I've now started for real and I've sold one piece and I'm onto my second commission. However I did spent over 60-70 hours with my wave, and got nowhere with it.

Having emailed James I know he uses Bristol Board, however after much tiral and error I found Seawhite paper is the best for me.

  • @jamesMylne OMG fuck me your good :D Same technique but you are a god at this XD you probably did that for days.I use this for over 5 years still having a hard time on really light shades, and it takes a ton of time to do, you cannot do it on big scales otherwise it would take months, I do a smudge or a line once in a while, witch pisses me off :D But what you do is amazing.HARDES TECHNIQUE OUT THAIR AND YOU CAN NOT ERASE YOUR SCRUE UPS WITH AN ERASER… so it is a one shot!GOOD JOB MAN!!!

  • @jamesMylne hello james, how can you tell me the title of the background music please? thanks.

  • @jamesMylne But how do you get those smooth light tones with a ballpoint. Have never been able to achieve that even after long hard attempts

  • @AngeloZ1 drawing on card is different.

  • Thank you.

I wouldn't say it's disgusting exactly, perhaps primitive... The challenge is to dare to begin and then follow through without compromise...

  • how long did this take aprox?

    amazing tallent!

  • thx

    between 60 - 80 hrs!

  • WOW! you must truley have a passion for this :)

    great good!

  • Thank you x 10000000000!!!

  • wow!!! best ballpoint work i have ever seen!!

  • Another great picture James. Thanks for the advice you gave me. I've decided to use ordinary cartridge paper however, as I just can't get on with the Bristol board. I'll email you when i'm up to speed though as being an Art student, I've drawn nothing for the last 2 years.... well you don't do any drawing when you're and art student do you?
