20th May 1981 - Ipswichs greatest moment in club history
31st July 2009 - A sad day for football, especially for Ipswich
RIP Sir Bobby, your name will forever be mentioned to generations to come as Ipswichs greatest manager, your spirit will forever live on at Portman Road, a true great, a true footballing legend and a fantastic gentleman
@wackytackybacky Yeah, unfortunately there aren't too many left in football like him. I still can't believe the way he was treated by his hometown team, Newcastle. I don't know if it's just me but I've always thought Steve Bruce has something of the Bobby Robson spirit about him. I find Geordies generally very likable people. They deserve better people running their club. Apart from being of dubious character who in their right minds thought that replacing Hughton with Pardew was a step forward?
@wackytackybacky Actually winning the league under Sir Alf Ramsey was the club's greatest achievement, surely, being league champions? That is what every club aspires to be - the best club over a whole season. A cup win is great though but not the same. Plus Ramsey won the league after having been promoted!
Chelsea fan..just wanted to say RIP Bobby Robson. This was an incredible team he assembled, back when i were a lad i even played my subbuteo as the Tractor Boys & i a;ways thought they used really cool footballs,a red & white number called UFO's???Anyway,a sad day for football....
What memories! I was 14 years old, and had "discovered" Town two years earlier when they beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final.I remember that this UEFA Cup final was the last chance for Town to win anything that incredible season 1980-81. I don`t think there was a soul in the UK (except Villa fans)that had any doubt that this team was the best team in England (and probably Europe) that season. Cooper, Burley, Mills, Osman, Butcher, Wark, Muhren, Thijssen, Mariner, Brazil, Gates. Fantastic!
It is great to see your own team play a final at your own ground. Something that does not happen now. The 2nd leg of the '87 Final was in Dundee. I made history by taking my movie camera with me - my film of that final - "Little Giants" is on You Tube.

Yep you got it dude, what a season.Town played some fantastic football, if the squad was a bit deeper they definitely would have won the old Div1.
