i haven't seen it but form what i can understand it pretty much thrives on sensory overload and oddity for the sake of being odd. which isn't bad, sometimes we need to be punched in the face by a giant collage of sound and visuals. and odd is good, we need something to break way from all the played out story lines.
Just got done watching it. Extremely weird, random, and at some points scary even, but incredibly beautiful at the same time. The ending was amazing, finishing with an incredible song. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I saw a premier of this in Portugal, both Panda bear and Danny Perez took questions and answers after it. The movie and soundtrack are fucking extraordinary.
@qxqx4 yeah i've heard its supposed to come out in july! it might even make a short stint in a few theatres here and there around the country. I hopeee soooo :D
omg. I would PAY for this on a blu ray even, in a heartbeat!
it was well...interesting.... the people who asked questions after were intensely obnoxious. one was like, "okay, well, i loved all the texture changes throughout the film. why did you think of that? was it because it was a horror?" i was bout to smack the heifer.
LOVED IT DANNY AND ANIMAL COLLECTIVE!!!! I was Entranced and couldn't look away.. it made me angry... but made me so happy.. IT played with my emotions and left me in a good mood the rest of the night.
I just came back from the screening in Baltimore!!! Everything about this visual album was amazing from my point of view! The sound and music was incredible, and the video was freaking hypnotic and mind blowing X3 Definitely buy the DVD if you never get a chance to see it, you won't be disappointed :3
saw it last night. such an amazing experience. i am pretty sure i felt every emotion at some point in the movie. i'll never be able to eat marshmallows the same way again :P lol
Saw the 7pm showing on the 22nd, I too couldn't blink at all, it was too awesome!!. Sad they aren't going to release the material in a separate album.
Animal Collective didn't direct this, they just did the scoring. David Perez directed it, so even if Panda Bear did email you admiring your work, which I highly doubt, he would have nothing to do with the visuals at all.
Besides, I watched some of your stuff and I see it having absolutely no aesthetic resemblence to ODDSAC at all.
you're retarded. this is obviously inspired by adam cooley and sun city girls' videos. expand your horizons, get out of pitchfork's ass for a while, go read brainwashed or something.
animal collective and i like so many of the same things. when they first started the band they were inspired by horror films such as "the shining" and "texas chainsaw massacre" as will be evidenced by ODDSAC. It's going to be a glorious mindfuck, can't wait to see it!
Marylin Manson is weird for weird's sake. Animal Collective are wierd to express a variety of influences from a "collective" of different originality. This movie is just to accompany this music in a way that it expresses various images. It's not wierd to be wierd. Slipknot is wierd for wierds sake. not animal collective.
It's not just opinion. It sounds cute to say that, but in reality we know that someone who thinks, say, that My Chemical Romance are the best band ever is not equally correct as someone who says The Beatles are the best band ever.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the film follows no particular structure, flow, plot, or cohesive storyline. which emulates and symbolizes everything that animal collective is. being weird for weird's sake and being creative for the sole purpose of being "creative" and "original", with no ultimate message or focal point. pink floyd was original, creative, and weird, however all of their music had a collective vision and an honest purpose, which animal collective lacks. making their music garbage.
thats it. you´re totally right. I guess Animal Collective are just trying to express some feelings hidden deep in the human soul which everybody knows, but which are also different in every one of us. And that makes their music so awesome.
The Movie looks so crazy and a bit fearsome, too. I wanna watch it XD
@angelsplacebo hey smart boy, what do you think of shitty music that got a good message or an "honest purpose"? Saying I love you in a song can have a purpose. You obviously havent listen to any of their lyrics. The song brother sport was a message for Panda bear's brother that had a hard time which is to me an "honest purpose". you dont know shit about art. if you think songs that you dont know shit about and don't understand shit about are garbage, i think thats make you full of shit
@MichaVids NO WAY. not for this stuff. respect the work man. work a couple hours and buy it! it comes out on DVD in july. sooo much went into this and it's worth every penny. support art :D at LEAST animal collective art.
@DannyBoredoms lol cos the visuals are hipster. why would you sit and watch a bunch of shaking colors you fucking retard. the music and sounds is more important.
I am really excited for the dvd release. Although am I the only one who hopes for more. At far as the plot or sequence or flow of the movie, I don't think the trailer shows any of that. Hopefully there will be something a bit more solid for the music to fall back on. Dont get me wrong I am MORE than excited. But just a thought.
ah so it's a romantic comedy

Does it make this garbage?
Even if this is simply being weird for weird sake, what makes you believe that that in itself is not a collective vision on honest purpose?
I think your missing the point behind this group which isn't a big deal because honestly, I don't know If i get it either.
but who gives a fuck, listen and experience, its a different trip for everybody.
