thank you Jennifer for these English lessons.i have in the USA for 3 years now. As a foreign national i can without a doubt that your videos are far more instructive than many other expensive courses that are being sold online ........thank you
i'm Amine from morocco i really feel that i have to thank you about nice videos which can help me in order to improve my knowledge ''' i hope i can meet you '' '' i wish i could pass my exam but i could not '' is it true
thank you very much for helping us with our English. You are such a good teacher. I would like to lear more about Idiomatic Expression. keep doing this job Jennifer.
In giving a short answer, use the auxiliary verb [be, do, have] and not the whole verb: Example 1 - "I hope I find my keys." "I hope you do, too." Example 2 - "My keys aren't in my pocket. I hope I'll find my keys in the car." "I hope you didn't lock them in." "I hope so, too." Example 3 - "I didn't my find keys upstairs. Maybe I'll find them downstairs." "I hope you('ll) find them soon. We have to leave within the hour."
Thanks again though I wasn't really wondering about giving a short answer. Here's what you say: "I hope you('ll) find them soon." And you put "will" in (). So my question is Why do you sometime say: "I hope I find my keys" but other time you say: "I hope I'll find my keys" ? Is this "will" optional? Thanks.
Jennifer,I just came here today not to comment any video or asking you for some help but I'm here to wish you and your whole family:happy new year!Best!
I love your voice. You should really go to a radio station and work as a commentator. I can only get that voice when I catch a cold, that's bad. Not like you, born of nature.
LOVE YOU!!!

In a complete sentence, when referring to the future, you can use the simple present or the simple future:
1) I hope you find them.
2) I hope you'll find them.
I just want to be certain you know it's not correct to say: "I hope you will do." Okay?
Suggestion: Now go back to the earlier segments of this lesson (4a, 4b, 4c) and pay careful attention to the verb tenses used in the examples.
JenniferESL 4 years ago
Oh, yes, thanks! Now I got it! :)
funfurfreak 4 years ago
so it's not correct to use the future simple but only the simple present if it's not a complete sentence, right?
the correct sentece is : 'i hope you do'
can you say ' i hope' instead of 'I hope so' ?

Thank you for yet another great and interesting lesson!
Is it wrong to say, "I hope you will succeed"? Should I say, "I hope you succeed"?
demianoksendal 4 years ago
You might encounter the simple present a bit more, but both are acceptable.

Bonus challenge:
Now go back and answer the questions posed in Lesson 4a:
- What do you wish for this Christmas?
- What are your hopes for the New Year?
