  • actually there is a specific scene that comes to mind that, never appears in the movie. It plays out EXACTLY like a scene in the "Ruby Knight". you can check pixie dust's blog on paolini and plagiarism for additional proof. Or even the books themselves.

  • the books are enjoyable until you realize they are completely plagiarised. In addition to following Stars Wars plot and using LoTR names, he has actual scenes in his books that are exactly like scenes in other previously written books, with many same or similar sentances.

  • @allwhitestar no those scenes from the stupid as fox eragon movie, these were not in the book. the movie was terrible and should be remade

  • @allwhitestar wow, someone knows how 2 read a wikipedia page!

  • @kolby206 I'm confused, wikipedia is a terrible primary or secondary resource. I have read these books and after noticing similarities, did some simple research. Wikipedia is only a compolation of others' ideas.

  • wow he really lives in his own world. Perhpas its good it makes him a better author but he needs to know what the real world is like.

perhaps lik jk rowling, shes a great author but she does not live in the world lik he does

  • The real world is shitty right now!!

  • i think cp likes talkin bout his books. i saw him say in another interview that all this gives him a break from the characters and helps keep him sane lol

  • its really hard to hear this with all the noise in the back

  • omg... this is what he's doing in stead of writing? (the first game part i mean) i'm like dreamming every night abaout galbatorix's death lol... -.- i would feel alot beter if he was actualy killing somebody :))

PS:love the book :X ...not the movie :(

  • the interview sucks. i mean, why don't the shurtugal people get better questions up to ask this guy?? maybe a little bit of pre-interview prep...? noone wants to listen to this for 40 minutes.

  • haha i love the inheritance cycle and hes relly funny/geeky

    "wiggled your uvula" LMFAO

  • the audio sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think he iz cool, well not in every way but he iz heapz talented =) XXD

  • OMG, lol, he's so geeky Hahaha

  • Everyone's geeky in their own way, lol. Tbh I think his personality pwns :p

  • Funny how I was just (im not kidding, like right before i decided to look up Brisingr), was listening to the song that plays at the beginning of the video. How bizzare.

  • whats the song called?

  • He's a pirate form pirates of the caribbean

  • A LOT of people do not like this guy, but I have to give him credit for his honesty about that video game. "If I were a consumer," so on and so forth.

  • he was homeschooled.. nd I think Nasuada either gets preggers or dies. If you fit together all the spoilers it's completely possible.

  • marble solitare? never heard of it

  • its simple you put marbles on your keyboard and play solitaire

  • audio aint too good though...

  • uhhhhhhh why is the freakin' pirates music in the beginning? -.- quite original... indeed...

  • lol u got a point

  • He was homeschooled

  • That explains so much....

  • All the Jocks at his past highschool are like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! what have we done!

  • He was home schooled and graduated with a bunch of EC classes instead of going to a normal school, probably because they live in the middle of nowhere.

  • I've also thought that it could be the case that his parents were not fully satisfied with the public school system. :)

  • could be, I hate the public school system also, the only school that is around him is a public high school thats an hour drive most likely.

  • Haha yeah, i love writing but i go out nearly every night! But some of the best books are by 'nerds'! An authors life tends to be a lonely one. But book tours are when they come to life!

  • pirates of the caribbean haha love it

  • pirates of the Caribbean in the beginning?

  • definitly pirates of the carabbien in the beginning!!

  • OMG!!! i LOVE the pirates of the caribbean at the beggining!

but i don't get marble solitaire...?

    can anyone explain plz?

  • lol is that 'Zorro' in the beginning?

  • no i think its pirates of the caribbean

  • I just started reading Eragon five days ago and still is on the 100th page whilst on regular basis I should be on pg. 300 for such a big book, lol, I guess the book is pretty poor for my taste.

  • When I first read it I read 100 page on the first day. I finished it the second day and stared reading the second book. I could not stop reading. I first read them in 3 days.

Now I've just finished reading them again (in 2 days)

  • The author-sama and I have something in coommen. I can't roll my r's either. xD

  • Paolini's books are great. They are in my top ten list for the books. I also agree with those who say that the film was crappy, I didn't like it at all.

  • Yeah, Fox just looked at it as a cash cow. The books are some of my favorite ever and I don't even like the movie at all. Doesn't really matter what people say though, the books will be around forever, and Paolini is a genius.

  • No. We writers (and I am one too) stay inside writing books/stories instead of going out and partying, so we tend not to be cool.

  • Im a normal person and I write for fun, Im going to be releasing a modern warfare novel this December. Being out is what increase your immigniation (sorry if I spelt that wrong). When you write a book you play god mode.

  • oh aye thats the reason pal, if ur staying at home infront of ur laptop all day its probbebly not coz ur writing non stop, its coz uv got ne m8s, my advice to you is go out live life a wee bit then you might actualy have some real world elements to reflect in your writing. Ps going to comic-con is not partying, for most of the people there its the highlight of there life so don't knock it pal.

  • Can anyone tell me if you could actually hear him? It looks like they could have editied the audio...

  • He is amazingly boring.

  • haha

at the beginning the music is from Pirates of the Caribbean...I have the soundtrack -_-'

    But the books are good!

  • I see, maybe i'll give that book a try, then.

  • Oh, and the crew behind the movie needs to be boiled to death in their own piss.

  • try to make a book that great when ur 15! and dont sit on ur big fat ass an complaining about him! and sorry if sumthing was misspelld! :P

  • I love the books and the many "no comments" keep things mysterious. But we'll have to wait till 2008 for number 3. I like the information in this vid except the audio sort of stinks. I enjoy the info and will get the next book even if it takes until 2008 (which is when it comes out)!!!!! If you like the books check out shurtugal's website!

  • omigod my friend and i think he's the greatest thing since buttered toast. but why is there potc music at the beginning?

  • I LOVE HIS BOOKS. And the movie just makes a good drinking game. Every time they stray from the plot or add something stupid that's not in the book, drink! You'll be passed out within an hour, but what fun.

  • The truth is that a lot of stuff is unoriginal crap but the pure and simple fact that Paolini let some two bit hollywood company fuck with the purity of his book is remarkably sad. JKRowling had creative control over the movies but I wonder if he did. The Ra'zac and others did not even look or sound like the ones from the book (even the fan art is better then what they had in the movie).

Sadly Paolini, like most would, sold out on us.

  • if you didn't like the movie ok whatever but stop effing hating you losers

  • the movie would have been good if it wasnt 4 the stopping every 2 seconds. :0

  • The people are taking advantage of Chritopher Paolini:

Read the book, watch the movie, see the difference... If i was Christopher Paolini i would be so mad!!!

  • The mentor dies. Boy meets up with loner who plays by own rules (Han Solo -- Murtagh). The boy saves the princess (Arya) who had been captured by the empire. Boy joins the rebel forces. Boy is involved in huge battle in which he gives the killing blow that decides the outcome of the battle.

Also- color keyed magic glowing swords present in both stories.

Secret warrior sect present in both stories.

  • Finally someone sees the resemblence between Eragon and Star Wars. It's so fuckin obvious to u twits out there who are to ignorant 2 realize it. Eragon still is an awesome book.

  • Luke Skywalker = Eragon

Simple, young, farm boy barely out of adolescence who has no knowledge of his parents and has been raised by his uncle and aunt. Something the evil empire wants falls into his backyard and, when the empire comes looking for it and can't find it, they kill his uncle and burn his home to the ground. The boy then leaves his home and follows the mysterious man through the empire as the old man trains him in the ways of a mysterious power.

  • Ben Kenobi = Brom

Old man with mysterious background takes up quiet residence within a farming town and we find out in the second installment that he is keeping an eye on the son of his best friend turned enemy.

  • Star Wars+Dragonriders of Pern+LOTR=Eragon

    Unoriginal Crap.

  • Star wars??? Ohhh Aniken was am orphan. -.- Eragon is Eragon nothing else.

  • Luke. Tis a comparison to a new hope.

  • thanx for the star wars relator oh wise master Loth i don't think it really matters if its original considering the fact that most movies, books, games, and other forms of entertainment have been(with few exceptions)"unoriginal crap" as you so put it. but some people(including myself)enjoy the overall story and the way it draws you in without critisizing all aspects of it. with that i suppose i'm done:)you better be careful there are a lot of crazy fan girls and i suppose i'm one of them ;)

  • I think he sort of hinted that Eragon is gonna fall in love with Nasuada...interesting

  • If you read the books then you would know that Arya is the elvin princess, and Eragon loves Arya not Nasuada

  • I love the books and inspired me to write myself a book company in sweden bonnier carlsen was interested (the one htat released eragon in swedish) im 17 years old and i began 2 months ago im on page 120

  • No matter if hes gay, nerd, tranny, sado, dwarf, alien or anything, I'm liking his books...

  • You guys can bag Paolini til the cows come home, but all I can imagine is him quoting Liberace after HE got bad reviews - "I cried all the way to the bank."

  • These guys are absolutely mind boggling. That such nerds exist and actually buy this crap is so pathetic. These guys have such low self esteem and people ability that they create fantasy worlds to live in, and then take up the mantle of an "outsider" because it's the only identity they have outside of sitting in their room and imagining what it might be like to have sex.

Over the age of 12...liking this shit is ridiculous...

  • ...The fact that you devoted seventy-seven words to bash a novel, shows that YOU are ridiculous.

  • You bothered to count?

Besides it was a cut/paste...took all of 10 seconds

  • <sarcasm>Yes because science fiction and fantasy have absolutely no value in today's world to examine current society and everything that's wrong with it. </sarcasm>

Read mindscan by Robert J. Sawyer. Excellent book.

  • What an arrogant little ass.

It was an __okay__ book, he needs to stop flaunting.

  • I'm reading "Eragon" and I've only read about 100 pages and I love it, it's much better than the movie

    congrats Chris

  • i just finished the first book and i was very impressed. great book and congrats to paolini.

  • I, myself didin't loveee the movie because they left out lots of characters, but it was kind of good in the whole action part.

  • It seems to me that Christopher didn't like the movie AT ALL.. lmao.. he just keeps repeating "the MOVIE version of MY book.." hahaha.. gosh he's so funny. I love his books. =)

  • How is paolini a talented author?

  • He wrote 2 exelent books and started one of them when he was only 15 years old.

  • He didn't write them. He copy and pasted from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

  • dude. Wtf!

  • He plagarised from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. and didn't come up with an original idea.

  • He was 15 when he wrote it, how could he know it was from Star Wars? Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien wasen't even out

  • You're joking, right? How could he have known it was from Star Wars? Maybe he watched the movie? Star Wars IV came out in 1977. VII came out in 1983. Paolini was born in 1983. He didn't start Eragon until 1998 if he was 15. So that's how he could have known it was from Star Wars. And you're joking about Lord of the Rings, right? IT WAS PUBLISHED IN 1954! Next time before posting, THINK.

  • It doesn't matter what he did or did not rip off. THINK about this: Eragon fits five out of six criteria to be a sociopath. And enough about this 15 shit. He was not finished revising it until he was 17, which is when it was published. THINK next time before you tell people to THINK.

  • Actually to what degree are you considering publishing? Because if you want to talk logistically, the book that everyone has come to love and hate that we see on shelves was actually published when he was 19, still a feat to be an overnight success, however, what happens after this trilogy (now cycle) will be what separates him from the one hit wonders and true authors that deserve their names on the spine of traditionally published books.

  • LOL

  • Except for the fact there's no such thing as an original idea. No matter how far you twist a plot, it still comes down to person versus person or environment, and internal struggle or a story against all odds. For example, In Norse Saga's you'll find Gandalf is no wizard but a viking... Frodo was in the viking sagas too! Shame Mr. Tolkien stole from Scandanavian literature huh?

  • Tokien didn't "steal" from that. He based some of it off of Scandanavian literature, but he didn't steal. He came up with his own world, the history of that world, and the names, and reinvented so much. Christopher Paolini said, "Hey, I like these names, and I like these elves, and I like these dwarves." And so he took them all without making them original whatsoever. It doesn't matter if you take inspiration from something, but at least make it your own in some way by making them different.

  • Worse than that, he took them all and said, "To hell with good characters! Eragon should totally be a sociopath suffering from Narcissism Disorder!"

  • There is no such thing as an original idea. That does not mean you can blatantly rip off stuff you like, create a sociopathic idiot as the main character, and have mommy and daddy publish it.

  • is the guy retarded or something ??

  • Eragon rox! and so far, eldest has 2!

  • Ok guys be nice! He is the amazingly talented author who created Eragon and his whole story and all you can do is call him a nerd!!! >.< God! I thought I was shallow! Give him a little credit! Anyway GREAT interview. He is the only author I would actually like to meet.

  • 1. The Inheratance seris is a compleate Rip off of Star Wars

    2. Even for a rip off it just plain sucks

  • you are too right my friend! It stinks!

  • i think its great what your doing...with the whole being gay thing...your even getting by with a one inch penis! wow great job!

  • ohhhhhhhh!!! should i feel surprised or something like it? because seeing him playing marbble solitarie made me to be bored, besided he can be bearly heard.

    GIUK!

  • I think he is kind of a nerd....

I'm reading Eragon and I love it....

  • this guy christopher paolini is a good writer and all but he is a real sterotype nerd i mean he doesnt daydream about nakedwomen he daydreams about dragons and magic! althogh eragon is the best book ive ever read great job chris paolini

  • why a boy has to dream about naked woman to be a so called "Normal" boy? honestly, what you said was ridiculous. Chris Paolini totally rocks, and if he is a nerd, he's my favourite nerd in the world. =)

  • lol, i agree

  • lol ive met christopher before..he was real nice

  • Did they really have to put in a whole minute of him playing Chinese Solitaire? I mean...C'mon. And he's a total meekwad.

  • Jeeze, he's boring.

  • the first song, at begining, how is it called?

  • umm, pirate of the caribean or something?

  • What does he do with dwarves 'with his tongue???' Oh my god?!>?

  • There's an aerial dragon fighting game? I think I want that one... and I don't really want the Eragon games... (not much of a videogamer).

He's a mac user? OK. Random tidbit!

Yes, this means it finally let me load the entire thing.

  • Nice!!!

  • Yay, first comment! It didn't load properly for me, so I can't comment about the whole thing, but so far its interesting and sounds familiar...
