If you look at that video the whole time the baby has his tail tucked in tight. 2:54 the baby actually runs into mom to get away from the dogs. 2:45 is just one of the times mom looked like she wanted to stomp those dogs. Horses are a fight or flight animal and do not like being chased by dogs. Dogs do not normally "play" with horses and visa versa. You need to learn to read your horses body language...mom was ticked off and baby was not comfortable and unsure. Others are pointing it out to.
Yes it's sad that he is now agressive towards dogs that chase him or are even playing around him, he was raised around dogs that didn't do that and he was fine with them. If you were reading your mares body language you'd have seen her ears were pinned more than several times towards your dogs and more than a few times your foal was running into his mom trying to keep some distance from the dogs also. Plus keep in mind your dogs can't tell the difference between your horses and the neighbors.
Wow people - get over it and just enjoy the horses. If the mare thought the foal was in any danger to her foal, she would have nailed that dog. And the foal doesn't seem the least bit bothered by it at all.
I know the owner. I know the mare. If either thought the dog was a menace - the dog would have been stopped. The owner knows what she is doing, and would not allow her horses to get injured. She knows her animals.
Just enjoy the video. That is one stellar foal with great movement.
You really need to learn to read not only equine body language, but CANINE body language. That one, I'm assuming aussie shepard, was very aggressive in his behavior whenever it got up close to the mare's shoulder.
I find it foolish that the owner thought it was "Cute" to allow a pack of dogs to run with a mare and a small foal. Just because it isn't traumatizing to you or the owner doesn't mean it won't have long term ramifications.
I agree...and the fact is none of them were hurt. The dogs look like they're of the herding breed - so thats what they were probably trying to do. The owner knows if the dogs would attack a horse or not. I am aussuming these dogs are around horses all of the time and the horses are around dogs.
lol that message you sent me!! Did you know that if a dog or dogs chase or as you call it play with wildlife such as deer or elk they can be shot immediately! My stallion was chased NOT played with into barbed wire and wood fencing and now he is a problem horse because he hates dogs!? You are kidding right?? I wouldn't let someone with that ignorant of thinking breed to my stallion. My friend needing he ASPCA called on him for shooting that dog tell them it was chasing his chickens to!!
You clearly stated that your friends dog was chasing HIS HORSE. not his "elk" or whatever. I really hope his horse is domesticated. So it would be illegal. I am sorry your horse felt traumatized enough to run threw a fence - but really, a horse would hurt a dog if they felt in real danger before they ran threw a fence. I never said because your horse hates dogs its a problem horse, but if a dog si running around minding its own buisness and it hurt it then yes it is absolutly a problem horse.
Beautiful horses too bad you feel it necessary to let dogs chase them...too bad my stallion wasn't there he has nailed dogs for chasing him before people were actually surprised the dog lived. Guess you have never seen a horse that has went through a fence to get away from dogs chasing it!! I have a good friend that has shot dogs including one of his own for chasing his horses but he has also had horses that went through fence to get away from them...it's really not cute!!
I appreciate your concern, but it is really not the dogs that are chasing the horses. Yes, they are out there and barking, but they do that as well when my horses are in the pasture. It is my son who is rattling something to get them going.
The horses are used to the dogs and everyone gets along and fences stay intact here. My stallions like to chase the dogs occasionally as well, but most of the time they are hanging out together in the pasture. So sad that your stallion is so aggressive!
It's weird your friend shot his dog for using its instincts and "chasing" something (Which it was probably just playing). Someone should call the police or ASPCA on him. And Its terrible those horses are so spooky. Do you or whoever owns them hit them a lot? horses and dogs can typically get along in harmony without going threw a fence. And your horse needs to go into training for problem horses if it would try to hurt a dog for playing and running. I would never breed with a horse like that.
Your horses are beautiful, But Why why do you feel the need to let your dogs chase and hound them. Put the dogs up and this would be a much better video.. I hope that colt or mare kicks them one day.. maybe then they will stop chasing them around
beautiful colt. I would like to produce one like that

The mare charges the dogs at 1:10. She just might nail them in the future.
You are right that is one gorgeous colt with nice movement.
