I'm quite new into cars and i was wondering about this car's engine - i have this car also.

I know it has a 3.6 litre V6 that develops around 298 hp and it takes 5.6 secs for the sedan to get to 100km, so if the BMW 5 series with a 4.4 litre twin turbo charged V8 takes 5.4 seconds (.2 of a second faster) then where does all the power come from? I mean the passat has a much smaller engine so how does it manage to get to 100km that quickly?? can someone please explain

really difficult to explain, more a weight problem then a power problem. bmw is much more powerfull, but also a bit more weight. the bmw is a bit quicker to 100kmh, but after 100kmh you notice the difference :D they accellerate faster on high speed (over 150kmh).

basicly, to go fast to 100kmh you need a very light car, if you want to go over this speed, you choose bigger engine (=bigger weight)

@hotttbunny Every manufacturer tunes their engines differently, V8's are heavy, BMW's are mostly RWD.Also, the R36 is a performance oriented machine (tuned accordingly) and the 5 series BMW is just a regular BMW with a large engine and 2 turbos.Also, the regular 5 series cannot be better than the M3/M5/M6, so they'd be de-tuned, even if they'd have the same engine.

Maar als we hem zouden chippen wil dadelijk toch niemand die Q5 meer. Denken ze alleen maar: oh hij is gechipt, nu zal ie wel flink zijn afgetrapt. En dan koopt niemand hem meer. Maar goed, het is natuurlijk wel gaaf om hem te chippen, maar ik vind hem nu ook al snel zat (6,5 naar de 100) En ik denk dat de auto er niet voor is gemaakt. Maar onze Q5 valt behoorlijk tegen, hij gaat weg!

Actually the second generation (2009-) 6 was larger and heavier in America, but the first generation (which includes the 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed 6/Mazda 6 MPS) was a world vehicles, not much changed from market to market.
