@TheTwitchesOFFICIAL4 ya, do you? If Plushenko did the quad, he deserves to win. thats the 'code' of points. He only wobbled on one jump. He deserved the win.
@skatergirl51 Not my point. The judges know what they're doing... if Evan Lysacek won, he deserves to win. I'm trying to be nice... but you're making it really hard.
@skatergirl51 Sorry, but he did more wrong in the new system than wobble on one jump!! Most of his jump landings were less than perfect, but the MAIN issue was his choreography...VERY old system, with a totally FRONT loaded program!! ONE more triple jump in the last part of his program, he'd have won..he skated clean enough, but the program was the issue, NOT the skater. I see now where Plushenko is working with NEW choreographers. Evan is a new system WET DREAM..he works it VERY well
I pretty much DO know the code of points, and HOW those points are calculated..I am a Johnny Weir fan, however, and am STILL struggling to understand how he was so horribly underscored! In the new IJS era, this shouldn't happen..but it does, and I despise the system that allows someone who FALLS to place ahead of a skater who skated a clean program, with ALL the required elements and what should have been near perfect GOE scores. Bias still exists. It didn't help Lysacek, but it hurt Weir.
@EchelonSummer From NY Times ( /2010/02/20/sports/olympics/20¬longman.html) : Lysacek received only a judges warning for a wrong-edged takeoff on his triple flip, not a 2- or 3-point deduction that would have changed the outcome, which was narrowly decided in his favor by 257.67 points to 256.36.
@dorca000 I'm sorry, but I do NOT get my facts from Wikepedia..they are biased by whoever wrote or contributed the piece. . My question is: WHY didn't the Russian federation intercede for Plushenko, if they knew this? They can count, had access to the scores, and could have filed an official protest on behlf of their skater..if they thought it was so wrong that Lysacek won, where was the official protest, as was their right?? They sold out their own skater, it would seem. Not typical at all..
Don't blame Evan for winning. Plushenko's own Federation sold him out and let him down. The only reason Weir didn't protest (and the judges who shafted him KNEW this) was that they buried him in 6th place, thus negating any real protest. if he'd been 4th, there would have been a review, and then things would have gotten messy for the judge who later TOLD JOHNNY that the US judges "Backed the other 2 American skaters..", and that they wished "we had known you were going to skate like that.."
Who is the guy on 0:26- 0:28? His performance was with "No me quitte pas". Amazing! He made me shiver, what is not so easy. How many women could like to be so delicated like him. He showed fallen in love. See his hands, so different movemenst than the most of skaters do. Oh, Gosh! Really good!
Plushenko's genius and artistism is not even slightly comparable to Lysazek's mediocrity. Evan is a good skater, but ordinary. lake many other. Plushenko is and will always be special. His is the author of many elements that are now included in modern skating programs (Including Evan's!!), he has numerous world records. His short program was a record of itself- the highest mark in history for the short program. Plus he jums quads and does other elements that are more difficult.
US needed this gold badly. Cos without US champions tv ratings of competitions and ice shows went dead. It is very big money involved. Also, part of this money (several billion) will go to ISU president (for broadcast rights -US is the biggest ISU broadcast buyer ) who is so conveniently the boss for the judges in olympics. Plushy had no chances. I doubt if an angel had.
who cares. its a joke of a sport anyway. just a bunch of social rejects dancing on ice. i would much rather watch skeleton, ariels, or something other than these idiots spin in spandex suits with sewn in neckerchiefs.
Oh and proof that americans are "better": They can buy medals while the russians complain about it on youtube.
First part I agree, fixed scores has put me completely off this sport.
The second. What does it proof ? it is first US champ since 1988. And why russians should complain if it because of them americans could not get this gold since then. Besides, I did not said they buy the medal I said they are the main broadcast buyer.
Do you really believe that people become "better" if they buy something?

Before I knew more about figure skating I may have agreed with those who are wasting their time by suggesting Plushenko should have won. However, now I appreciate that it's figure skating & not a jumping competition. Look back at the whole programme & watch how Evan links the moves together, the entries into the jumps & the overall quality. Style is objective too but hip wiggling & flirting doesn't necessarily work either. Plushenko wasn't perfect, he didn't win, get used to it & move on...
technically no one can repeat his number. Everyone is still studying and learning from Plushenko and this is despite the fact that he had an operation on his knee.
Guess what everybody? Lysacek was clean and nailed his landings. Plushenko was crooked in the air and had slightly sloppy landings. There is a thing called execution/technicality.
@Glyc3r1d3s But could they do it as cleanly as he did? He had a pretty difficult routine as well. It's not always about difficulty. There's still the technical factor, and technically, Lysacek won. He proved he didn't need a quad to win.
It is questionable. Has he had cleaner landings he' d have lower marks for something like second mark or GOE for his first marks. The reasons I have already put above in this thread.
Plushenko is the best skater that ever lived. Last night, he was amazing, he did quads, triple jumps together and made a beautiful interpretation, he went to the limit like a athlete should do. He touched the world. The Lysacek only had a good dancing performance and made triple jumps, second place, But, Plushenko, is the man, because he dances and jumps wonderfully ...Like a bird , You fly. In final score, Lysacek can't have more points. It's obviously.PLUSH >THE BEST!!!
When Lysacek heard the result he did not believe, because he knew that he had errors in the fall of one of his triple jumps. PLUSHENKO was original, he went to the limit, was an actor, did the quadruple jump perfect and clean, had a triple not so clean as Lysacek didn't have too. But Plushenko was the BEST!!!
QUADS AND TRIPLE JUMPS TOGETHER IS MUCH MORE EXCITING THAN A TRIPLES AND DOUBLES.
Is it only a dacing or you have to risk something to be the number one?
They killed figure skating with this result. Where is the evolution of the modality. we will come back to the past! PLUSHENKO THE MAN OF FIGURE SKATING! Justice!
How can Lysazek's mediocrity be compared to Plushenko's genius... Plushenko is doing art on the ice. Poetry on the ice... Lysazek is such a mediocrity and his porgram was not difficult than the 1988 olimpics... Canadian Elvis Stoiko even had a more difficult program and jumped quads.
I think they were really unfair with Weir!, he totally deserved to be on the podium, for me Plushenko shoud have the gold (comon! he made a quad!!!!! am I the only one impressed by that??¿?¿?¿ ), Weir silver and Lysacek bronze.
I am not a fan of Plushenko or Lysacek but I couldn't believe Lysacek won, his lack of artistry is too much for me to watch, he always skate like a machine, no personality, it seems like he is not being himself......my perception and humble opinion anyway.....neither Lysaceck or Plushenko have the magic of Lambiel, Weir, Galindo or others true artits on the ice.
I was so sad when Patrick Chan fell. He feels the music so beautifully and he had been doing great D: Still love him though <3 I was so surprised to find out he had an injury a year ago, I never would've guessed
Plushenko is a genius and Lysacek is a mediocrity that can barely follow Plushenko's style, and has neither talent nor training to even repeat Plushenko's elements. No skating, no dancing, no challenging jumps. Lysacek is a reincarnation of Mediocrity.
Daisuke Takahashi said he would have regretted if he DOES NOT tried to make 4-r jumps even if he was expected to win the medal. Eventually he failed to make it and he came third. But he sounded pretty happy over that "Regretting over the things you have done is much much better than regretting wihtout doing it" Lysecek knew he could NOT make 4-r jumps that is why the way he performed was totally different from Plushenko.
Evan Lysacek was AMAZING! His freeskate was awesome and his final program was just...it was too good for words. that's how awesome he is. And he won that Medal, fair as it could be. He deserved to win it
Watch Plushenko - Tribute to Nijinsky. That's really AMAZING. I'm not saying that Evan is bad, mind you, i'm just pointing out what kind of skating people should call "too good for words".
Lysacek skated an intricate and beautifully transitioned program with the grace, power and strategy of a superior athlete. I respect Yevgeny who is a phenomenal athlete, but his final performance although brilliant, was uneven. He can do jumps in his sleep, but some of his cat-like landings, tilted air positions, etc., just didnt bring it. The quad toe loop garners 9.8 point. If you switched Plushenkos quad for the Axel, it would probably have increased the point loss for Plushenko.
Lysaceck kicked Plushenko's butt, and like it or not, he is Olympic Champion. Congrats to Evan and congrats to Plushenko for coming back and winning silver after 3 years. I think Lysaceck was very gracious after what Plushenko said about him. How come they didn't show Joubert's long program?
Plushenko said that he couldn't believe that Lysaceck is Olympic champion. He said that the champion should be able to do a quad, and Evan didn't. Plushenko stated that men's figure skating is not progressing as a sport if the Olympic champ can't even do a quad, it's ice dancing. So, reading between the lines, Plushenko is calling Evan unmasculine.
I am from Russia and it is sad to lose, but "pride comes before the fall". Pluschenko is undoubtedly talented but I was so disappointed in him after his interview in Tallin. So prideful and disrespectful.
Snob or not a snob, he's an extra-level skater. Being totally frank I, like some people, think that this performance wasn't the best in his career. But the truth is that even Pluschenko's "not the best one" is still way higher level then Lysacek's "flawless" ice ballet-dancing.
the only thing missing from Lysacek's performance was a quad... and it was otherwise flawless.... Plushenko lost on technical merit... and even though he performed a quad , Lysacek's long program was better.. You are disregarding the level of his performance and over estimating the level of Plushenko.. Who now Is going to be remembered as one of the sorest losers of all time.. grace and respect would have been greater than publically trying to tear down the World and OLYMPIC Champion
@davejoyal Well said. Plushenko is one of he greatest skaters that ever lived. But Evan won, fair and square, and in accordance with the scoring standards.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Plushenko is a snob and totally full of himself. He thought he HAD the medal before he skated. Lysacek (learn it, spell it) skated to EARN the medal and that he did. He is a gentleman and showed a lot of class during and following the event.
Totally agree - that's why I wrote "poor Evan". :))
You can buy or blackmail all the medals in the world, but not the respect and love of people around the world. Evgeny Pluschenko will always be remembered as a genious outstanding figure-skater; who will recall the name of... errrr.... what his name?... Lusicek :) in one year? Nobody. And that's all that matters
Who will remember Evan Lysacek.. only everyone who looks at any Olympic gold medal list and he will also go down like Plushenko as one of the greatest of all time.. The Medal did not belong to anyone else it is Lysacek's and Plushenko plain and simply LOST it .. it Plushenko a great skater.. Absolutely... one of the Best of all time .. absolutely... one of the poorest sports .absolutely .. get over it He won silver and has 3 Olympic medals... he is pretty amazing, just short in this competition.
Sorry, dear American and Canadian friends, but your Evan is skating like a zealous 2nd-grade pupil of a skating school! :-)) In Russia only small children skate like that. If he at least joined women in their competiotion he'd more more at his place there.
It wasn't an Olympic champion's skating, and you all know that, whatever you say here. How humiliating it must be for poor Evan - to get a faked medal which, actually, belongs to another...
And, come on, everybody knows Plushenko was the best on thursday, Lysacek was just the 2nd. It's a real shame the Russian Figure Skating Federation does nothing about that. While the american one always does its best. Russian figure skating school is the best in the world and if you can't admit it, think of the master who coaches your favourite - 80% it will be a russian guy.
Domnina and Shabalin are not going to win either no matter how perfect they will skate - it's the Olympics in North America. Think of Salt Lake City 2002 when Irina Slutskaya with her perfect free skating programme was misjudged just to let the american girl, who took only the 4th place after her short programme, take the gold as another american hope Michelle Kwan failed... And the scandal when a russian pair had to share their deserved gold with canadians. Wasn't that flat nonsense?!
YEP, this is what happends when the olympics are in America! infortunately figure skating is not that sport where you can be hundred prc right, like those who jumps or run where there's nothing you can do, who is higher or faster-that one wins.
"this is what happens when the olympics are in America" um no, we don't do anything wrong. The panel is made up of judges from around the WORLD. Not one continent. So we don't really have a final say in anything.
They killed figure skating with this result. Where is the evolution of the modality. we will come back to the past! PLUSHENKO THE MAN OF FIGUrE SKATING! Justice!

Plushenko won the gold medal. A lot of coaches and figure skaters from different countries had told about it. He is the best. He knows it and we know it.
I am so sick of all the people who whine about jumps jumps jumps. Evan Lysacek won the gold medal HANDS DOWN people! Get over it!!! He has the whole package....jumps, footwork, artistry! Yes artistry! That is what makes figure skating along with great athleticism. Jumps have been overrated. Michelle kwan and Nancy Kerrigan should have been awarded gold medals in 1998 and 1994 respectively but because of triple triple emphasis this did not happen. I am not down with the jump hype!!!!
His program has been rolled great, and clearly full of wonderful elements! Bravo!
Necessary to punish a judge of the United States who organized the unjust boycott of Russian skater. This behavior brings us back to the Cold War, this behavior proves once again that the U.S. can not compete fairly and always rise humiliating others.
I am sure that Russia should raise the issue of awarding a gold medal Eugene!
Similarly, as did Canada and the USA before getting the gold from the winners.
As a prfessional with years of experience I would say: Performance by Eugene, a performance of the champion! The only athlete in the world, which makes a unique jump in 4 turns!
and they showed Plushenko first here as he is the star of the Olympics! Lysacek is so stiff on the ice it's a wonder nobody mentioned it! and I agree with Plushenko 100%, USA needs a new figure skating star, and it will not be Lysacek. I would pay to see Plushenko on the ice anywhere in the world and I live in the States! so happens I have zero desire to see Lysecek! Plushenko in your mind you are the olympic champion of 2010, and so you are in our hearts! <3
I don't think it is a competition to rely in a unracional and nationalist discussion, doesnt' matter who won, but the sports games itself and health competition are the important things, and many nations participation shows the importance of the event itself.
lysacek won because the new scoring system favoured him, not because his performance was more awe inspiring than plushenko's. plushenko's routine was far more graceful, expressive, passionate, and difficult.
i only wish plushenko had handled the defeat with more professionalism and better sportsmanship.
I must agree with you, the pontuation was favored to lysacek because his jumps are mostly located on the second "part" of his coreography, that counts more points. Just a detail...very important detail.
Plushenko basically insulted all of the other skaters and he's being a sore loser. He won a medal at the OLYMPICS! why not just realize that winning a medal at all is an accomplishment. Lysacek skated a clean program, while Plushenko's had many small errors in it, nearly falling numerous times included
I can't agree with you. The thecnical basement of Plushenko is uncomparable, and have the same quality of lysacek, in some points even better...The problem was the routine scores on the "second routine" part. Every professional skater agrees that what Plushenko did was something unique and should had more value. He did 4 turns jumps 3 times, If I'm not wrong, the USA competitor didn't anyone.
But I must say, his behavior was ridicoulous but understandable by the situation(as a human been).
Plushenko!!!! Why didn't he win? I was so disappointed! He definitely did the best. I'm sorry Americans, I just feel very Russian patriotic. Plushenko's from the same city as me so he has always been my favourite. And he's extremely good too.
Roubo? Someone list the countries where all the judges are from please. Also, last time the games where in the U.S.A. ,in 2002, the Russian won....so.....U.S. is fair no? "Chupa meu pau e cala essa boca!" This is your debate foundation? Here is mine: 2010 Winter Olympic Games total medal count for Brazil 0. Total medal count (as of this moment) for U.S.A. 20. I will watch in 2016 (very close.)
there is no discussion about the judgemt of the skating male figures...But I must confess I loved to watch the japanese presentations and that brazilian (representing france). And some others(I don't know how to say all nationalities in english).
I laught a lot with other USA competitor, very ...diferent I must say (and funny, I use to like this kind of person, autentic).
brynathen for your informations Brazil have no snow. That is the reason we don't have a significative participation. Here winter sports doesn't exist! Despite that we have opinion. And in my opinion Plushenko is a legend and his performance was superior. This is not about anti-american feelings.. You stay saying that will watch "very close" the brazilian medal score in 2016. But I say to you: Brazil is a country in ascencion..maybe we can't beat USA (yet) in 2016 but we will try, be sure!!!

Plushenko BEST IN THE WORLD!
technically no one can repeat his number. Everyone is still studying and learning from Plushenko and this is despite the fact that he had an operation on his knee.
Viki67 1 year ago 9
Guess what everybody? Lysacek was clean and nailed his landings. Plushenko was crooked in the air and had slightly sloppy landings. There is a thing called execution/technicality.
12bmills 1 year ago
there's a thing called pushing forward and breaking the bounds of skating
Any junior skater could replicate what Lysacek did, all that has been practiced for decades
Glyc3r1d3s 1 year ago 5
@Glyc3r1d3s But could they do it as cleanly as he did? He had a pretty difficult routine as well. It's not always about difficulty. There's still the technical factor, and technically, Lysacek won. He proved he didn't need a quad to win.
12bmills 1 year ago
Cleanly is basically practicing and sticking a routine to perfection.
However perfect or clean it may be, it's not anything new.
There is no eye-popping factor or increase in skating difficulty.
If you want something like Lysacek's performance; go watch the women's skating
Glyc3r1d3s 1 year ago 7
@Glyc3r1d3s Their scores were only 1.31 apart. If Plushenko was cleaner in the air and on his landings, he would've won. No doubt.
12bmills 1 year ago
@12bmills it's the scoring itself
Glyc3r1d3s 1 year ago
He proved that you have to step back and play it safe to win. While in other sports you can hardly win acting like this.
bazilior 1 year ago
@bazilior Whatever. Their scores had a 1.31 difference. If Plushenko had cleaner landings and cleaner flights, he would've had won.
12bmills 1 year ago
It is questionable. Has he had cleaner landings he' d have lower marks for something like second mark or GOE for his first marks. The reasons I have already put above in this thread.

PLUSHENKO IS THE KING!!!!!!!!!
Sososhka13 1 year ago 7

Plushenko is a genius and Lysacek is a mediocrity that can barely follow Plushenko's style, and has neither talent nor training to even repeat Plushenko's elements. No skating, no dancing, no challenging jumps. Lysacek is a reincarnation of Mediocrity.

Why aren't there any videos of the actual programmes posted on the internet yet? Is it against copyright or something?
Deedyi666 1 year ago 2
Daisuke Takahashi said he would have regretted if he DOES NOT tried to make 4-r jumps even if he was expected to win the medal. Eventually he failed to make it and he came third. But he sounded pretty happy over that "Regretting over the things you have done is much much better than regretting wihtout doing it" Lysecek knew he could NOT make 4-r jumps that is why the way he performed was totally different from Plushenko.

12megenvieve 1 year ago
Lysaceck kicked Plushenko's butt, and like it or not, he is Olympic Champion. Congrats to Evan and congrats to Plushenko for coming back and winning silver after 3 years. I think Lysaceck was very gracious after what Plushenko said about him. How come they didn't show Joubert's long program?
Greensleeves1984 1 year ago
@Greensleeves1984
What did Plushenko said about him then?
prettikitten 1 year ago
Plushenko said that he couldn't believe that Lysaceck is Olympic champion. He said that the champion should be able to do a quad, and Evan didn't. Plushenko stated that men's figure skating is not progressing as a sport if the Olympic champ can't even do a quad, it's ice dancing. So, reading between the lines, Plushenko is calling Evan unmasculine.
Greensleeves1984 1 year ago
Thanks. Basically these things I know as well, I thought for a second that he said smoething really ugly, but then he didn`t, so everything is ok.

I am from Russia and it is sad to lose, but "pride comes before the fall". Pluschenko is undoubtedly talented but I was so disappointed in him after his interview in Tallin. So prideful and disrespectful.
vasnovi 1 year ago
Snob or not a snob, he's an extra-level skater. Being totally frank I, like some people, think that this performance wasn't the best in his career. But the truth is that even Pluschenko's "not the best one" is still way higher level then Lysacek's "flawless" ice ballet-dancing.
Nata34Moscow 1 year ago 4
the only thing missing from Lysacek's performance was a quad... and it was otherwise flawless....

Absolutely... one of the Best of all time .. absolutely... one of the poorest sports .absolutely .. get over it He won silver and has 3 Olympic medals... he is pretty amazing, just short in this competition.
davejoyal 1 year ago

Russian figure skating school is the best in the world and if you can't admit it, think of the master who coaches your favourite - 80% it will be a russian guy.
taneetaku 1 year ago 4
Domnina and Shabalin are not going to win either no matter how perfect they will skate - it's the Olympics in North America. Think of Salt Lake City 2002 when Irina Slutskaya with her perfect free skating programme was misjudged just to let the american girl, who took only the 4th place after her short programme, take the gold as another american hope Michelle Kwan failed... And the scandal when a russian pair had to share their deserved gold with canadians. Wasn't that flat nonsense?!
taneetaku 1 year ago
YEP, this is what happends when the olympics are in America! infortunately figure skating is not that sport where you can be hundred prc right, like those who jumps or run where there's nothing you can do, who is higher or faster-that one wins.
MissAgni 1 year ago
"this is what happens when the olympics are in America" um no, we don't do anything wrong. The panel is made up of judges from around the WORLD. Not one continent. So we don't really have a final say in anything.

RaruphoElfei 1 year ago
lysacek won because the new scoring system favoured him, not because his performance was more awe inspiring than plushenko's. plushenko's routine was far more graceful, expressive, passionate, and difficult.
i only wish plushenko had handled the defeat with more professionalism and better sportsmanship.
cinephilist 1 year ago 3
I must agree with you, the pontuation was favored to lysacek because his jumps are mostly located on the second "part" of his coreography, that counts more points. Just a detail...very important detail.
