@JNGonzalez09 its from back when bows and arrows were the assault riffle of the day. Now these guys were pretty handy with the bow so when they were captured, the guys doing the capturing would cut off those two fingers as they were the ones the bowmen used to pull back the string. Rendering the bowman useless. So bowmen would give the 2 fingers up to enemies to show that they still had them and therefore were still a danger to the enemy force. or thats what ive been told anyways.
Apparently it originated from opposing archers. If they captured an enemy, they would cut off those two fingers as they were the fingers required to fire an arrow. Using it as a gesture would be indicating that they still had their fingers and maybe threatening others. It has originated from that into a simple way of insulting someone. Well, at least that's what i heard - I might be totally and utterley wrong. :D

Originally, during the 100 years war, the opposing armies would cut the other armies archer's fingers off so they would be rendered useless, as a sign of defiance, forking out your two arching fingers became something one side would do to the other. Eventually, after many years, it evolved into that.

@cornwallextreme That is a myth stop filling @JNGonzalez09 's head with rubbish. Do your research.
qwertyuiopdan1 1 month ago
@qwertyuiopdan1 well i did say that is what ive been told. so whats the real reason then? im curious now.
cornwallextreme 1 month ago
@qwertyuiopdan1 Well i just couldnt wait so typed it into google and the first thing on there was a wiki link (wont let me post the link here)
Assuming that anything you can find on the interweb is infact true in the first place?
It appears, good sir that it is in fact you, that needs to jog on and maybe do some of your own research.
cornwallextreme 1 month ago
@JNGonzalez09 It's a mildly less insulting version of giving someone the finger.

is it used in ww2? if the british soldiers captures a territory, they'll use the V sign for victory to insult the enemies...
lacuesta022 3 years ago
err no??
they'd probably kill the enemy soldiers

Women's genitile thingie.
keesvdijkh 3 years ago
i know what a vagina is lmao.
but what does that have to do with the V sign?
sbennett92 3 years ago
Well there's a smilie with the same sign and then the smilie moving his tongue in it, I know it's gross but I just thought it was the same :P
keesvdijkh 3 years ago
it originated with english archers while battling the french.
the french used to cut off enemy archers fingers, and this was used as an insult to show the french that you still had your fingers.
vincetheboosh 3 years ago 3
Hmm, I thought it was more to do with V day, but perhaps that's the peace sign.
Zlyzer 3 years ago
It's the UK way of giving "The Finger"
Borgschulze 3 years ago
I know that, because I'm from the UK ;p I was talking more about where it originated from.
Zlyzer 3 years ago
dont listen to them, theyre bot British they wont know where it originated from
basically the french when they captured british archers would cut those 2 fingers off which they use to fire a bow
so before a battle they would give them the 2 fingures to say HAHA i still have my 2 fingures
its just a cocky british insult aimed mainly at the french lol
UFNerd 3 years ago
That's actually interesting about where it came from.. :)
KadiiRawr 2 years ago 2
