Have a listen to the UK cover version by Charlie Drake .... producer on it was George Martin - yes, THAT one. Even funnier to my mind (but then I'm biased).
I was, like, 10 when I first heard this song and by then it was a golden oldie; my mom put her dusty 45 single on the living room record player and smiled wider and wider as my brother Joey and me went into hysterics with laughter.
I VIVIDLY remember this song on Top-40 AM Radio when my divorced "Disneyland Dad" took me to the drive-in theater in late -1960 to watch the current movie "THE TIME MACHINE" starring Rod Taylor, Alan Young, Sebastian Cabot, Yvette Mimiieu (et al)...
On the way back home, on the car radio played "Mr Custer" by LARRY VERNE...
I had just turned age 10 at the time (I'm 59 now)...
My favorite song!

"Kemosabe! Hey out there! Kemosabe!"
(Sound of flaming arrow whizzing past)
"Nope, that isn't it..."
Thanks for the memories!

For some reason the singer's voice almost reminds me of Lou Costello from Abbott & Costello
