ive rode ths be4, its reallly fun i was about 8 or 9 and rode it like 4 or 5 times! its not really tht scarry & the best part is the beginning wen it starts going really fast!!! but i think its reeeeaaaally scarry how theres only a little bar across your knees 2 hold u in..... :o
When a park closes how many rides get scrapped. Or why do they just leave them there to rust and rot. There are plenty of people I the construction business that need jobs to take them down and plenty of amusement parks that could use an extra ride or two. Unless your six flags magic mountain or cedar point of course lol.
@mynightmarexxx1000 When Six Flags Astroworld closed in mid 2000's.. seemed like half of the rides were scrapped and the other half of the rides went elsewhere.
I rode this when it was Tidal Wave at SFGA. Towards the end of its time there the queue line was real short so I was able to ride four or five times in a matter of about 20 minutes before I got bored. And I'll never forget the clanging noise when you took off and stopped. A short ride but a fun one.
@legomasterman1854 Six Flags decided to pull out of their lease & the park closed after the 2009 season, but now the owners of Holiday World plan to open the park again & will call it Bluegrass Boardwalk.
this was Originally built for Astroworld in Houston...I rode the lell outa that thing..It was moved , as the majority of the rides at Astroworld (Six Flags Company), when it closed doors. Sad day but good to see Old Grease Lightnin still lives to shut another Park down..lol
Any difference between flywheel and weight launch type, when it comes to giving riders a pretty strong push into the seat? My body got freezed on the ride I wasn't even able to raise my arms. :O
@xSlimXbaconx No, it's a Vekoma giant inverted boomerang but Montezooma's Revenge at Knott's Berry Farm is a Schwarzkopf flywheel launcher. FYI - there are no weight drop & flywheel launchers, it's either one or the other. ;D
@Flutelover2013 Six Flags owned the park & decided to close it down after removing a couple of the newer coasters, including Chang (which is now the Green Lantern coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey). Now Ed Hart is trying to work with the city of Louisville & the Kentucky State fair to reopen the park. We have a topic about this in the News & Rumors section of the Forums on our website, if you want to know more about it.
@woemcat Greased Lightning from Astroworld was sold to Joyland Amusement Park in Lubbock, Texas & is currently in storage. Hopefully they'll rebuild it again soon.
@wwwCOASTERFORCEcom Was the one at Astroworld a Schwarzkopf like this too? I rode Montezooma's Revenge at Knott's--my lord that kicks the snot out of a Vekoma boomerang any day! (rode the Boomerang there too--it takes a LOT for me to hate a coaster but man that ride sucks!)
@12rollercoasterfreak Same builder too--Anton Schwarzkopf --basically considered the Da Vinci of coaster builders--his rides are classic (look up Olympia Looping--world's largest traveling coaster and one of his crowning achievements :-) )
@MrSnapplesauce No, it's a completely different type of coaster & is nothing like a Vekoma boomerang. This is a Schwarzkopf coaster that has no lift hill because it launches. It also doesn't have a cobra roll like Flashback & it's a much smoother ride.
@wwwCOASTERFORCEcom a good old-fashioned shuttle loop. Was this formerly Tidal Wave from Great America, the shuttle loop from Astroworld, or is this an original placement?
thats probably one of the most boring rides ive seen.... is that all it is a little loop then your done??lol most normal roller coasters have like 2-5 loops
@harritaco It's very intense. The G-force is strong, and if you sit in back, at the end of the ride you end up looking almost straight down. The feel of the ride is more exciting than just the view.
I hate it when they put the brakes on as you're going through the station in reverse. Most parks do it and they don't need to. Knott's in California has never done it and, even in the front seat, you get serious airtime on that backwards ramp. Having reverse brakes takes 50% of the fun out of the ride. Viva Knott's Berry Farm!
@elpololoco35 It's not a remake. They both were built & opened at the same time (1978), only this one moved from Six Flags Great America to Six Flags Over Georgia before it ended up at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. However neither of them were the 1st Schwarzkopf shuttle loop coasters. The first ones opened in 1977 at Carowinds, Kings Dominion & California's Great Adventure. I rode White Lightning at Carowinds the year it opened.
@Chattervideos Nope, Dejavu was an entirely different coaster that would break down all the time, i dont recall where it is now but i think it was moved to the east coast.
@xevilwalksx when the tidal wave was removed, the original Batman: the Ride was built in its place as the world's first looping inverted roller coaster.
Just like Montezumas revenge at knotts, but the one at knotts looks like it goes faster and looks higher at the last part be4 you return to the station... (just sayin)
The Mayor is getting involved to try and keep SFKK open, but Six Flags is in such a hurry to leave that they have already taken down most of the stuff.
