In age of empires 2 the period the game is arround 1500. ofcourse the chu-ku-no where better. Age of empires 3 plays arround 1750 then they where nothing.
mm this may be true... but then again a cho ko nu is much more expensive than a strelet... so not rlly fair if u go 50 vs 50... u shuda made it like price of 50 vs same price for the otheru nits.
@yomnomnom No shit they're weak. Apparently they're used to at least fend off or distract. whichever one. they're the same thing as skirmishers only weaker. like Portuguese Cassadors
Chu Ko Nu only has a range about 50m to 100m,and it's extremely unaccurate.Chinese invented many crossbows during their long history. The ones that they used against northern nomadic invaders were called Hlin Pegs Kwung,it's a long range crossbow with a range from 150m to 800m.
AOE 1 is so stupid. Crossbows have never smoked when shot. Even if they had due to friction, they don't make enough to look like muskets. Damn the graphics.
@Stuff0Da0Chicken This is a video of AoE 3 by the way, not AoE 1... and the reason that one of the sides weapons seem to look like muskets is because the Strelets in this video ARE using muskets. and your right crossbows don't smoke when shot and i've never seen any AoE game make it look like they did....
Chu Ko Nu is not very accurate, and not very powerful,it only has rapid fire, but that's not enough for a battle. That's why Chinese people abandoned Chu Ko Nu soon after its creation.
they just because the army did not use them doesn't mean it was abandoned. Farmers used it to protect themselves from raiders, chu ko nu was later transformed into a bigger version which were normally mounted on battlements. The plans were also spread through the world and other armies started using it.
Actually, ancient chinese soldiers rarely used Chu Ko Nu.They often used Shin Bi Kung(a long range crossbow with single shot,it has slow fire, but it's very powerful)
in Treaty, Chu Ko Nu are one of the best units, in age of Empires 3.
If you ubgreat them full, they have 17x3 attackpoint agains Infantery. BUT they shut 3 Bolts in the time of One. So they have finelly 153 attack points. No other Infantery is so strong!
- okay, this comment is a little bit needless here^^
dude the Chu Ko Nu's purpose wasn't power, the chu ko nu's were a defensive weapon in the time China was being raided by mongolians, they wanted rapid fire and accuracy in stead of power, so of course a chu ko nu is weak, but they are effective in large numbers, so it seems AOE2 was wrong about the chu ko nu's O.O
@AoE3xTADxExpert .......... how do u know cho ko nu is weak? The actually Cho Ko Nu deployed in war is bigger than a crossbow.... it is not really accurate but in terms of power it is pretty strong
@canadianfirzen No dude. do yu know yur chinese weapons of war history? the zhuge nu (chu ko nu) wasnt powerful but still it could penetrate into one's armor and kill. the zhuge nu was created by zhuge liang during the warring states. the zhuge nu was created for rapid firing not power. it could shoot up to like 200 ft while a normal crossbow can shoot to like 500 ft.
@MisterChina70 According to real drawings of Cho Ku Nu in battles, I believe it is larger and more powerful than u think it is. The one u r talking about is probably for home use against thieves.
@canadianfirzen YES the zhuge nu used in battles are bigger but those shot 200 ft. the home ones shot less. no body cares about teh home ones. and i was talking about the ones used in battles not the home
@MisterChina70 Ya, I've never seen a definite range it can shoot, most ppl just say it's not accurate and weak.... and can't be used in battles i was told
@canadianfirzen it is true that its not accurate and weak. but it is definatly a good choice to use in battles during the ancient times. and yu can find the range of crossbows if yu search up "range of ...."
@MisterChina70 60m is a bad estimation. It's not weak as most ppl thinks, the reproduction of them r lame.... becuz they never get the details right.... the composite bow can be a lot stronger, and the lever mechanism actually make pulling a strong bow easier, so it pulls with less energy.... search up the video "破解诸葛神化" it shows how Chu Ko Nu can penetrate a board 7 cm at about 50m range. Plus, the Cho Ku Nu they made is not even made of a composite bow and it is not designed for a war...
@canadianfirzen uh 60 m is really wrong. 80 m is more correct. and the zhuge nu is a weak weapon but still its powerful enought to penetrate one's armor and kill.
@MisterChina70 have u seen the video i told u to search for? The recreated Cho Ku Nu only has 2 poor quality sticks attached to imitate the bow, and it can still penetrate a board 7cm deep at 50m range. Imagine if it with some real composite bow, then the power and range would be increased dramatically. Since the lever mechanism actually make it easier to pull the string, so with a real war cho-ku-nu u could have tremendous power
@AoE3xTADxExpert id like to mention that you are wrong Cho Ko Nu were inaccurate and weak but their rapid fire made groups of them deadly against hordes
Dude you don't know the Chu Ko Nus. They are good if you know how to use chinese in this game. They shoot 3 bolts before reloading, so its X 3 the damage. And there are good upgrades and home city shipment upgrades for it.
Ok but when i finish making my units, how do i exit out of custom scenario, i cant find where to so i always have to turn my computer off then play the scenario.
Unfitting music

ok for everyone who doesnt understand age of empires 3 gameplay
chu ko nu crossbow men did fire extremely unaccurate shots.
yet have u ever noticed if u ever bought the game, that shots never miss?
watch carefully and see the error in the game.
this is why age of empires 2 is alot better, and because age of empires 2 has very unique units and strategies
