Actually the original book wasn't about a girl or any sort of exploration of the human psyche at all (hence both of your accounts are misplaced). The original work was about the new modern mathematics that were emerging in the mid-19th century colored with many common associative symbols in order for the book to sell better since the target consumer was the 19th century englishman (19th century urban jargon, actual places and events, French and Latin incorporation into the English language).

The book was indeed a series of math logic puzzles, but it could also be strongly argued that the characters themselves each represented a different part of Alice's mind, i.e. Cheshire Cat = her sense of caution, Absolom = her memory, the White Queen = her sense of justice, Queen of Hearts = her darker side (which we all possess). The book is multi-layered and parallel in meanings and alliterations. I don't think it is as narrowly focused as you are suggesting here

Well, technically Wonderland doesn't exist even in the game. Alice used to read "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" habitually when she was little, and thats what she was doing when the fire that killed her family started. So to not deal with the reality of her family being deceased she imagined a whole world based off the books. In it her sanity and insanity fought a very strange war (The events of the first game) and now in the second a Psychiatrist forces her to create

@holycow343 It's a good fact. It shows that the world of wonderland definitely has a darker side even in the mind of its creator.

When we dream, there are no limits and emotions can be associated with innocuous things, such as fear associated with a teacup. This is one of the strengths of this game.

Sadly, it looks like they are pushing the gore too strong and distracting from the depth. Kind of like the worst of the SAW movies. It started as a psycho thriller, ended as slasher porn.

@eschelar I don't think Alice is becoming slasher porn. I've seen some of the gameplay footage of it and it wasn't all gory or super-dark. Also, I don't mind the gore if it's done in a surprising and inventive way like in this trailer. No one really sees that coming when they watch this the first time. I think it's a nice touch and lets you know that the game isn't fuckin' around. If all of the blood is removed, it's not really McGee's vision anymore.

I remember when the first part of the game came out. All of us fans were so upset that the director opt out of making a movie out of the first game sequel. @Carlemone actually, it's very simple. her family dies in a fire, and the truma mixed with survivor's guilt made her lose her mind. and when she went mad, wonderland went with it. the new game takes place after the first one ended, as even though she's out of the asylum, she still feels pain, and thus, her madness is coming back, and so, she is thrust back into wonderland, in order to save it once again.
