There is absolutely nothing in the text of the Constitution, as it was originally ratified, that denies women the right to vote - the states did. Case in point: many of the western states (Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, etc.) granted women the right to vote well before the 19th Amendment was passed. Jeannette Rankin was elected to Congress in 1917 (as a Republican no less), three years before women's suffrage became the law of the land.
@dyneadri I couldn't agree more. Women like Schlafly are selfish and only care about their privileges. But there can be no privileges in equality, which is why she opposed the ERA. She's an idiot.
@dyneadri Oh no your right instead of being mothers and wives women were taken out of the home and degraded and debased at every turn! men dont marry women why would they the milks for free and its everywhere!
Phillis Schlafly is an embarrassment to conservatives, the GOP, and Christianity. She is a purposefully misleading bugaboo.
In fact Harvard is studying the topic as Summers suggested. DeToqueville's American women didn't have the vote. I hope we have moved forward since then.
If she had her way, she would not be permitted to speak to the public.
And feminists must always foster equality and cooperation between men and women. Thus liberating both from a negative system and fostering individuality that focuses on one's own talents and choices, and disregards gender.
Now, explaining my position on special privileges. One argument that Phyllis uses against the ERA is that it takes away government hand-outs from widows, wifes, and grandmothers. But shouildn't poor single fathers get benefits? What about elderly men who can't work? Or stay-at-home fathers? I'm not against giving benefits to people based on financial need. But it shouldn't be based on gender. Because being a woman is not a disability. And please forgive me but having a vagina is not a disability
Whayt you are saying to me is that these men do not get any "benefit" at all and that's not true (and a blanket statement at that). I am wondering where you are coming up with this information. I can see you are passionate in what you are saying... what state do you live in? Is a family member not being treated fairly? What's happening on your end of world?
And I live in the American Southwest, and I wouldn't say that any family member is being mistreated. I've just grown disgusted with things I've observed in society. Men and women who don't conform to stereotypes being taunted and discriminated against. Ridiculous policies in my schools, such as making girls do 10 sissy pushups and making boys do 20 real pushups in gym class. And women thinking they need men to be attracted to them to feel validated
Well you've all ready helped out by wanting to help solve this problem. It works both ways, we have to encourage people to feel validated with who they are as individuals and the way God made them. Boys who are effeminate and girls who are tomboys should be encouraged and not looked down upon. Women should be given the same expectations to succeed as men are. If we give benefits to anyone or ask any sacrifice of anyone we should do it without regarding the persons gender.
FEMINSM IS SEXISM.women have all the rights and Men dont have any. The only right a Man has, is the right to remain silent, and we are not going to be sillent anymore. If a woman has the right to opt out of parent hood through abortion, then the Man should have the same right. Equal rights. Sound familiar?
You're wrong. Feminism is EQUALITY. It liberates men as well as women. And you're right, women have too many special privileges. Which is why we need the ERA to take their privelages away from them and force them to work equally as men do.
Furthermore, you can't crucify the entire movement of feminism because of a few crazy people who want to get revenge on men. Most feminists want men to have the same rights as women. And don't assume that I'm for abortion just because I'm feminist.
@journalist7 ok... explain how both parties are liberated. explain the comment "women have too many privileges". and why does anyone need to take ANY privilege away from a woman?
Well I think that antifeminists do more to enslave men than feminists do. (Responding to your comment on the other video) Antifeminists unfairly force men to bear the brunt of work and suffering. They are the first to die, to sacrifice, and do perform any task for no good reason. While women who are perfectly capable of contributing an equal share of work and sacrifice get special treatment for no good reason. They force men to conform to ridiculous stereotypes much like they do women.
There is no argument in regards to what women are capable of... so as far as getting paid equally for doing what a man does (same job, etc) I agree. I do not agree that it fair or a balance treatment of women to force them into something that goes against their nature... unless it is by choice (war games, etc).
Well I'm afraid I don't agree on the notion that it's against their nature. I believe that the differences between men and women are sexual and reproductive and that's it. However, I do agree with you that no one should be forced to do anything they don't want to, including men. Which is why if you're going to argue against the draft then argue against the draft. But don't be gender specific and say that we must protect women but it's okay for men to get slaughtered.
Phyllis needs to go back to school and learn about race/class/ethinicity/gender/sex/etc and maybe then she would learn that most women are not able to stay home and raise their kids or that many women want to work!!! American Women = Privileged = A lot of Bull Shit. I can't believe I even watched it. DePaul's Conservative Alliance is a joke.
Conservative... Eww. If she got rid of the Equal Rights Amendment than its like she's being sexist to men. Women do have advantages that men don't and she probably wants to keep them and not want equality for both women and men. Sexist pig. She's a big hypocite I agree.
This woman is a shit-faced liar. She's claiming the constitution was never biased against women, what about the law that prevented women from voting ? Lying bitch.
Killed? I think not! Don't worry friend, the ERA is not an amendment that will die. One way or another it will rise again and destroy the antifeminist disease in this country. It is inevitable. Phyllis Schlafly is a pathetic woman who desperately thinks that if she says the ERA is dead enough times it will somehow become true. Well it isn't, the ERA never die, and there are numerous ways in which it can return.
@journalist7 i think that you need to explain to me... what exactly you've been taught regarding Schlafly. I think it will help me understand your position. If your position is not important there's no need to carry on the discussion... but if it is please state and then let me know of your sources.
My position is that if Phyllis Schlafly thinks that women and men should behave a certain way, then she and her husband can choose to behave in that way. However, she has no right to try to use and prevent legal measures to discriminate against women and men who choose to live their lives differently from her. She can't force everyone to conform to her way of life. So my position is that of individualism. I got most of my information by researching her and visiting her website the Eagle Forum
I'm glad that not all women who are out there are not ashamed to stand against feminists/feminism and those who promote it. She's a great inspiration to me.
Yes, it's good to see that some women are not ashamed to hate themselves and want to enslave men, because this antifeminist disease is threat to men as much as it is women.
@Brentsey do not speak like that,
