If you think you are right about what you are trining it is OK. However if you are doing dancing Aikido but complain to Aikido which doing competition, etc, I think you may go to wrong way, might be.
JPN (and Asian), this country keeps original and also keep improving about some. Many of kobujutsu many of Kenjutsu should come like that and also gave great idea to MMA(jujutsu). Korean Hapkido is from Takeda before MMA, TKD from Shotokan Karate, Karate came Okinawa's Tei, this got great idea from China arts. They are keep improving but just other foreigners think "this is original this is no this is wrong..." and forgot about "for what we are learning arts".
I think Aikido shiai is OK as far as they train Kara also. Better than just doing dancing Aikido only. Many of foreigners actually just keep sticking to some JPN sensei saying only and didn't listen other sensei (since you stopped trying, thinking). And didn't know actually there are some thinking ways in JPN.

This proves that all those aikido wrist locks don't work. Neither man could catch the other man so they just hit each other.

@SuperSneakySteve i was a boxer ...and i used to catch my opponet wrist all the time....except bac then i didnt know what to do with it....
it is very very easy to catch ppl.
a step bac buys time...a step forward shorten time........that really all u need and a sense of timing.

手刀では間合いが近すぎるし思い切り打ち込めてないでしょう。
スポーツチャンバラの小太刀か長刀で打ち込んだ方が良くないか？
それを交代で捌く練習にしたほうが上達すると思う。
