The original Lamborghini was the 350GT, body was by Touring of Italy, and it had a front mounted V-12. Production began in 1964. It was pretty but a bit conventional. The Miura was really the beginning of Lamborghini as a "supercar" maker, radical for its time, coachwork by Bertone designer Marcello Gandini made him a star in the designing world. The mid engine design was radical, but there were others: The Lotus Europa was a contempory (1966), and the Ferrari Dino would come in 1968.
Actually, Lamborghini has started building cars around 1963 or 1964. The Miura did not come along until about 1966. Even then it's quite amazing a fairly new car company came up with a revolutionary sports car with an unheard-of sideways V-12 engine layout!
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

this is, in my opinion, the most beautiful car ever made. @HistoryChannel416 lamborghini made quite a few cars prior to the miura but it was the earliest supercar that they built.
Hi lamborghini made the muira in 66 but had released 2 models prior the 400 gt and 350 gt front engined lamborghinis.another oddball one from the late 60's was the Islero and a 4 seater - Espada.Hope this helps
the muira was the car that started the mid-engined supercar but lamborghini started making tractors before cars but it is one of their earlyer car models
I got to ride in one once. Amazing car, absolutely amazing.
