The first time I heard this song I was cold and I (thought I) was in love with someone. Isn't it weird how when you leave a song alone for a while you can return and feel the memory of the first time you heard it? I just wish I could remember who I thought I loved though...
The eraser and this song are my favorites from the album. I could probably listen to them on repeat for the rest of my life but the people around me might not like that.
I can actually state with absolute linearity that after listening to In Utero and Nevermind by Nirvana, and thinking I knew music, that I spent 8 months listening to The Bends every night. The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac and In Rainbows are works of genius. Although There There is my favourite Radiohead song. What I'm trying to say is that I know this Band inside out; loved and hated; and can be critical if warranted. Too many pony-boy-college-avant-garde-MilesDavisMotherFuckers on here
I think it could be "so many allies, so many are lies". Also, I don't think he sticks to one lyric live. Other songs like Idioteque for example, I hear him skip around from "Here I'm allowed" to "Here I'm alive" pretty randomly. I guess he just sings what he wants.

@runearrow737 shut the fuck up about hutch already. i came here to listen to thom yorke, not see a bunch of hutch fanboys saying they're radiohead experts after watching a black ops video. The reason they watch black ops videos in the first place is because they suck so bad at the game that they have to watch other people play.
@cainmartel Well, if you get that stuck up because someone says they came here from some other source of media, you should just stop reading the comments, hm?
I don't think the lyrics are right here. You have "So many lies" but I think it's "so many allies" as in "so many friends." The title of this song is a reference to a speech made by US President Dwight Eisenhower about nuclear weapons. I also think of it as a person saying to his or her spouse, "please don't fall into depression, we're all here for you."
Kahuna since you know so much about music, then you also know that the "rules" change, or bend if you will, depending on the era music is written and depending on where on the planet that music is written.
Como continuo sem vc? Como posso lidar c a memoria de vc cantando essa musica e eu ouvindo sua voz, deitado em seu peito? Como? Vc era minha felicidade.
@Kozfather there is no structure to the melody. i didnt say they're albums were ok simply that they were ok to listen to for someone who is studying music. you could gain alot of information from their albums like ok computer and so on
@kahuna3901 The meandering, free form, continually unfolding melody is what makes their more recent shit interesting..They've evolved as musicians even if were just talking in terms of technique...ha sorry but your talkin' out your arse..keep studying man ;)
@kenrben one word, motif? where is it? they understood in the main part of their careers that melodys cant be "free form", just look at classical and romantic composers. the idea of a free form melody which btw defies the point of a melody if its free form would have been stupid. yes by all means use some of these ideas for effect but by over using these ideas dosent mean its good music. just look at 12 tone serialism, something that should only be used in burts and not as a type of music
@kahuna3901 Ha well, I guess your the authority on what constitutes as "good" music ...sounds like pretty limited perspective and appreciation to me...IMO music is all about expansion and freedom...But I do think that sometimes experimental musicians stray too far from what resonates just for the sake of strangeness and abstraction...most of Autechre's shit for example, but I guess that's their function and contribution to music...relentless uncompromising experimentation..
@kahuna3901 Also, are you familiar with Jazz music? ha...Its all about not being limited by rigid melodic structures..think of it like talking but with instruments. I guess you don't consider John Coltrane or Miles Davis to be "good" musicians who understand "motif" and "proper" melody or whatever the fuck...lol Sorry dont mean to be abrasive you just sound pretty confident in your own limited subjective definition of music, and its kinda irritating. lol
@kenrben you cant compare radio head and miles davis, do you know anything about music? jazz musicians have such an understanding of harmony and keys that they are capable of thinking at such a rate in music that no other type of musician can. the difference between radiohead and jazz is that jazz is mindful of old theories but takes these theories either to new levels or simply introduce new musical ideas. tell me what have radiohead introduced? half ass'd ambient sounds?
@kahuna3901 If your not keen on a band and it doesn't resonate with you that's cool, different strokes, but your narrow minded, bullshit, critical reasoning for not liking Radiohead and your criterion for what makes "good music" is...bullshit ha. Maybe when you "grow up" you'll be able to grasp the sublime beauty of Radiohead... Then again maybe not, like I said different strokes...What are you 14..15 years old? :)
@kenrben just because i dont like one band dosent mean im narrow-minded. if anything just liking one band would make someone narrow-minded. i look at radiohead from an educational point of view just a i would with holst, prince, beethoven, Tchaikovsky, the beatles, bach or even lady gaga if needs be. and quite frankly radiohead have alot of great work, but the majority of their new stuff is just simply not following the rules of music. put it this way, if mozart wrote this, no one would like it
