  • i love riding bare back. it's sooo much fun expecially when you can gallop it's almost like your flying

  • I'm devestated i can't ride my horse bareback damn racing saddles for wrecking his back...

  • All I seem to do is ride bareback. I love it so much more than with a saddle- even close contact. I feel much more in tune and "connected" to the horse, plus it doesn't hurt that 'm 17 and still have my young muscles... hahaha

That looked great though, keep working and things will be amazing (it took my draft a good 2 months to get used to bareback, b/c he was org. a carriage boy)

  • @TheArtisticNuisance

Have FUN with your BIG boy!

Probably take ME more than two months to get back in the groove bareback. LOL

  • You did a great job of staying on srry i dont no how to comment so i just replies lol

  • EVERYthing was easier as a kid! You look real fine--

  • @horsepaintings

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :~)

  • wow the title sounds like a movie. awesome vid

  • this is funny, when i ride bareback its normanally better then riding in the saddle lol.

  • @WildHorses159

    Oh sure... SHOW OFF!

    LOL

    :~)

  • You look great. I've been riding my arabian bareback and found two things help, sit a little further back so that your weight is more over the ribs that the shoulder. Open your hips and front of your pelvis more so that your legs hang low and make contact under you rather than in front of you. Yoga helps heaps with this. Imagine your knees moving apart and back while you ride

  • Hi: I just posted a video response. I ride bareback. I am a lot better now than when the vidoe response was taken (Suburbanhunter is my video). Anyways. I was wondering why you say that as you get older, it gets harder. Is it a matter of flexibility? If you remained soft and flexible, can you keep your skills? I never want to lose my ability to ride bare. I rue the day that I would lose it. How can I make sure that I keep my ability? Should I stretch and do yoga daily? I am 38 y/o.

  • @SubUrbanHunter

I'd say to just keep riding bareback is the answer. When we were kids we had so much fun!

I've found getting out of practice didn't help and now I worry about taking a bad fall too much. Not scared, just dreading a 'splat'. It's still FUN and I depend on my stirrups too much now days. Oh well that's just me.

Any good exercise has got to help you keep that flexibility.

Keep at it and ride safe out there.

Now off to watch your video....

    :~)

  • I rode bareback a few times in past, the horse I had was a saddlebred grade and I did alright at all gaits it was the stopping or sharp turns that always put me on the ground.

you look like your doing good. with practice it can only get better.

    RRRR

  • Thanks.

'Joescolors' from Youtube sent me this bareback challenge. LOL

That's why all the stops and turns and trotting around.

Yup even in my old age I can still ride bareback (a little bit).

    Thanks for the comments.

  • Oh man your wild n' crazy lol haha.. Sweet video. I ride bareback most of the time..

  • When I was young bareback was so EASY.

It's a LOT harder now than I remember. LOL

    Good Luck with your horse.

Thanks for watching and for the nice comment.

    :~)

  • LOVE your video, I am starting bareback again at 57...so far no disasters. You give me hope! (and a few pointers, I need a rope on the neck too) Good luck

  • The rope is better than holding/pulling on that mane. LOL

Good Luck and be careful out there.

You GO and don't ever stop trying!

  • my goodness, I didn't know you were a celebrity, lol, I just got a channel with Richard Winters on it & low & behold who is on there, but a gal I thought I recognized, then he starts saying how Julie rides Harleys, 1-5-05, that was so cool! :) well not only have I been busy riding my boys, but I've been riding bareback too, well except, I had to take a break, when I did a hurry up & hit the ground on the other side a week ago, lol, that hurt a little, lol!!!! but I,m good :)

  • Hey 'Lukeluver'... Been a loooong time! YAY! How ya been?

Apologies for not replying sooner, computer crashed & just gettin back on line.

So we're on satelite channel, huh? Did NOT know that. FUNNY to learn that info. :~)

Richard owns the video he can do whatever he likes. LOL Honored to be a part of it with such a great horseman.

Careful girl... hard landings can take a toll. Landed on my back with the mare and it really smarted. Used the rope on Stet's to help with balance. Try that.

  • I like how you have that extra rope around his neck for added balance.. i may do that!

  • Try the rope. It certainly helps.

He's kind of a fractious horse and when he'd do one of his quick moves I found the rope very useful.

Neither one of us are used to the bareback riding... me or the horse. LOL

  • what kind of horses and how old is he or she

  • We think Stetson is likely an "Old Blood or Old World" Morgan Horse. He came out of an area in Canada where there were quite a few Morgans. Morgans are rare in California where we live so not many are familiar with the breed here.

That's our best guess, no papers on him, he was a rescue. We guess him to be around 13 or so now.

Thanks for watching and for the comment.

  • I've ridden bareback before but how do you train a horse to ride bareback? My mare flipped the heck out when I tried to get on her bareback and my friend got dragged and i fell flat on my ass. Lol

  • Don't know HOW to 'train' one to ride bareback. Guess you just get up there and do it, but slow and easy at first. LOL

This horse is pretty well 'broke' so I just climbed up and gave it a whirl. My younger horses I've never tried.

So If I survive that first 'bareback ride' with them... I'll get back to you on that.

Take it easy until you all get used to the idea and Good Luck!

  • I'm just learning to ride bareback, and its hard because I don't have a horse of my own. But I'm 14, I have a lot more time to get to be a better rider.

  • im 14 two to bad you dont live where i live (: we getting two horses

  • i ride bare back all the time but you know i'm only turning 16 so its easy for me

  • Yup. It's MUCH easier when you're young.

As we age we seem to lose some of that balance and bravery.

Enjoy that youth and have tons of FUN!

Good Luck and ride SAFE out there.

    :~)

  • Comment removed

  • The 'point' was an answer to a challenge 'can you still ride bareback'. Not like I used to obviously, but yes.

'Scared' not hardly... 'stiff' yes. Getting old is really a pain. LOL

He's a fractious horse on his best days and a little hard to keep at a steady rate.

Trust me, my little bareback ride in the back yard isn't gonna hurt that horse in the slightest.

You're welcome to come and give him a go... see if you can sit him any better. Now that'd be fun to watch!

    Thanks for the comment.

  • wow good

  • Had to come and watch this vid again, love that power steering Stetson has, and the good music. Julie I would post a vid response but I cant kneel on my horse like you did on yours. LOL

  • Thanks for the SMILE Joe!

Old rope horses have good steering just a little stiff going to the right. LOL

Scored/hazed plenty of steers with Stetson and he's a good one in the box all right. Now if we can get that arena finished and I can get a rope in my hands. Can't wait, arenas coming along.

Wanted to stand UP on him but I know him better than that. Stet's woulda took off & back flipped me in the dirt.

Glad I kept that horse when people said to sell him. He's fun and pretty good now too.

  • Hey, I just wanted to say...Awsome job. if u lived in WI, we'd totally go riding together! I love horses!

  • Nice job Julz, Bareback is my favorate way to ride. When I was younger, Dad said if you can't ride bareback, then you can't ride. So bareback was it. Like the vid. You rock girl.

  • Thank You! You are too kind.

Was so much easier as a kid, maybe worrying too much now about falling off. LOL!

It all worked out well even tho he gave me a little 'thrill' there for a second.

Guess we gotta keep at it, with the proper safety gear of course.

    :~)

  • WoooHoooo! Look at you, Girl! Just like you do it everyday! Now, me, I'm thinking that I'd need my seat belt fastened and in the upright position, 'cause I'd be flying at the point of that hop! Kudos to you, Cowgirl!

  • Kinda like that old movie 'Airplane'? LOL!

    You're a funny girl Phyl.

    Thanks for the good words!

    :~)

  • julie....I'm with you...This is harder than it looks. I'm 52 and I doubt if I've ridden bareback since I was a Kid. This was good stuff.

I think I left you a look at mine which is slightly tame in comparison!

  • Hi Spudsie. Thanks so much for the video reply. That is just completely COOL of you to do.

Me's thinking you looked pretty smooth up there. What a cute horse! Nice arena you've got to play in also.

YOU GO GIRL! And don't you ever stop. :~)

By the way... gave your video 5 STARS from here! YAYYYYY!

  • Good buckaroo! You bet it's harder than it looks. It was easy when we were 14 - now not so easy.

  • That's so TRUE!

Gotta keep practicing and never give it up.

Thanks for watching and leaving the good words.

    :~)

  • Julie what did you think when he did his thing, glad he stopped cause I was about to get one step behind . when I get one step behind it means here comes the dirt.LOL

Every time I watch this vid , I cant believe how good of a rider you are. This is a great vid Julie.

  • You're makin me BLUSH Joe!

Wasn't BIG but sure felt like it so unexpectedly. LOL!

Thought.. SH*T! Stay centered, keep your legs down around him & cracked up laughing! What a twit to do that to me. Almost got a step behind & if he had put two together woulda hit the dirt for sure.

Come off that horse more than once since we bought him. Know him a little better now & can figure what his favorite moves are. He really likes to pull sharp corners on you especially to the left! THANKS JOE! :~)

  • It's the ones where he puts his head between his front legs, all fours off the ground, and rounds his back....OMG..So much for that proper, perfect, equitation!!! Ha Ha Again, great job...

  • OMG!

Your very own 'Wyoming license plate' BUCK!

Yeppers... that's a REAL BUCK all right.

Forget the *equitation* and grab that bucking strap girl!

When you ride that one thru I hope every one watching gives you a round of applause and maybe a trophy buckle! LMAO!

    YOU have EARNED it.

    YEEEEEHAAAAAW!

  • Great video Julz. Like starsechos says. Used to be so easy when we were younger. Hop on and go!!! My Smokie has a "if you can stay on the first 6 seconds you can ride me" mode. After that..We're cool. But he's got to test ya. My trainer years ago would have me ride most of my lessons without stirrups. Walk, trot, canter. I'm so thankful she did. Made jumping a lot easier. Strengthens the parts you use for riding. Helps that balance too!! As long as your having fun, enjoy the moment..Thanks again

  • Dressage we worked without irons a lot. But somehow that still felt more 'secure' than plain bareback. Knee rolls maybe? Dunno.

Sure does help your balance and feel.

So you got one of them horses too. Yup, Stets has all ways got to try one or two and like clock work you can count on it over any little berm in the road. Dumps his nose and says "YeeHaw..feels GOOD!"

Was laughing when he did that and I was still up there! What a way to start the bareback adventure. FUNNY HORSE! Hehehe! :~)

  • Nice job and good ride through the buck-jump! Stetson is turning into a pretty nice horse.

  • Thanks Patricia!

Still gets nervous when tied & approached off side. Talk to him show him my hands & he breathes, settles down. Follows me now without a lead. Loves it when we ride and gets a rub "GOOD BOY!" Swear he says: 'I'm a GOOD BOY' and he smiles. LOL! Don't think he ever got credit for all the good that's in him. Just doesn't know what to do with that 'reward'. But he likes it, it feels good and he sure does try hard. He's more relaxed and less emotional now. Always improving. YAY!

  • Have to say Julz that Stetson sure does look like a fun horse--he just seems so gleeful with that bouncey feel good thing going on--happy, happy horse--so cute.

  • KAZ, Stets can't believe how GOOD LIFE IS in Calif. It's TRUE! He was a ranch horse & treated like one. Never was a 'pet' horse. Didn't know what an apple/carrot was or getting a rinse when he was hot and sweaty. Researched his brand and got a lot of his story. Was told he'd been on every rodeo grounds in Alberta. The haulers that brought PMU's here recognized him. Called him by name so he had quite a history up there. 10 yrs old & wolf teeth, what does that tell you?

    WORK HORSE ranch gelding.

  • clap clap,,,good job Julz,,,guess I need to get off my butt and get some vids posted.

  • Go, girl go!

  • I'm with Endo-T on that one Wendells.

Get off your duff and POST SOME VIDEOS! We're all waiting to see the new black horse and the progress you're making with the other horses in Dressage and the like.

Just DO IT... set up a tripod or something if you can't get a cameraman to help.

We 'double dog dare ya' to produce a VIDEO. LMAO!

    :~)

  • P.S. Great music choice too!!!!

  • Wow, you´ve done it. Looks great, reminds me of my own efforts on bareback riding. Stetson goes great, he shows reaction on your sitting and your aids immediately. They teach us sitting soft and smoothe by this, if we don´t do so - off we go . Great thing, 5 from here!

  • Thanks Samuel.

Not feeling very 'secure' up there yet but will keep working on it.

You're correct, definitely need to be soft and smooth... any over reaction will send you to the dirt in a hurry. LOL!

Horse gets nervous with new things but he's trying real hard to understand me. Can feel it in him and that makes me happy. He's a real good horse!

    :~)

Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. YAY!

  • Julz, you're my HERO "IEE-Ha!" Me myself ("She Who Canters Without Saddle And Lands With Thud".. my Indian name. oh, I mean native american.. lol) I don't have nads of steel to ride bareback, like you :~)

You get a thumbs up from ol' Neceynads (or should I say nadlessNecey, lmao

  • 'NadlessNecey'??? NEVER! Necey has BRASS NADS! I know she does, I've seen them... it's completely TRUE! YES IT IS!

'She Who Lands With THUD' oh yes, I've done that a couple times too. Not lately (KNOCK WOOD) but just in case, you notice the heavy jacket (and it's 90 out there), helmet and vest. LOL!

We need some of Endo & Joe's 'Indian Butt Velcro'. Those two guys amaze me with how they stick to a horse. That sh*t is hard to do!

Thanks for watching Necey. Sooo GOOD to have you back here. :~)

  • Well I need that velcro butt 'cause I got dumped about 2 hours ago.

Didn't get hurt.. i held onto the mane and hung on the side, so my fall wouldn't be so far to the ground, lol

    Confidence shakin' you wonder.. Nope!

I know it's not if a rider is gonna get dumped but when.

Hell yes I got this all on video "IEE-Ha!"

I was riding the jackass who ignited my fear of riding.

I was thinking of buying him back.. not now, lol

Looks like "Sammy" is gonna be my new boyfriend :~)

  • OMG! Do I dare say we want to 'see the video'? Ummmm...as long as you're okay & got up cussin & kickin the dirt.

How dare that horse unseat our NECEY! We must get right back up there then and ride him again!

Sounds like you ARE OK both physically and spiritually. WHEW! I'm glad of that any ways.

Nope, don't buy him back. Just go ride the heck out of him. IEEEEEE-Haaaa!

    You GO GIRL! :~)

Told you "NadlessNecey?"... NEVER EVER. Not for a minute, NOT our NECEYNADS. No way!

    Girl's got HEART.

  • Well, that crappity smacker ran back to the barn lol

As I was walkng back I thought "screw it.. that pile-o-monkey nuts can kiss my cellulite ass", so I got my saddle and called Big John and told him I was very interested in Sammy.

Hell no I didn't tell him I just got dumped lmfao

It was funny.. while riding him in the arena I rode past Beau and said "Looks like its gonna be Sammy" I already knew it before I got dumped lol

    Thanks for the encouragement, Julz.

I still have my confidence :~)

  • Perfect Necey! Don't let him get you rattled up there. Breathe Necey BREATHE!

Nothing like a long walk home to clear your mind & piss you off. ROFLMAO!

Happy to hear you're going to jump back in with horses. They ARE addicting. You gots some of the BEST people around you too, and that helps so much. Good riders confident horsemen/women to keep you encouraged and give you pointers. Makes a HUGE difference.

    Bless you Necey! YAYYYYY!

    High FIVE, Girl! :~)

Now go lope da shit outta Sammy!

  • you did great you stayed on him. I think it takes a while to get use to. I only do walk and trot for bareback riding. I love it sooo much better then a saddle. You can feel the movements better. Its not easy. That is so good. I hope I stay on when my girl does her bucks. Lol. Love the video.

  • Howdy LH!

Put a rope or strap on their neck and it will help you a LOT. Save that mane from getting pulled out too. ROFL!

Agreed... bareback is a great way to feel where their feet are. It'll make you a better rider for sure. Some suedey jods or suede chaps would help also. Jeans and horse hair are a pretty 'slick' combo to try and keep together I've discovered. LOL!

Anything to help you 'stick' would be a benefit.

Good Luck with your bareback adventures! Be SAFE out there! :~)

  • hey julie...that is a great video..stetson looks like he rides great...liked the music too.

  • BILL.. I'd like to meet the man who started Stetson and shake his hand. He did a GOOD job with that horse. Whatever happened to Stetson after his start was a downhill spiral for him. Under all his emotions there was a great horse. Took a long time to find it in Stetson again. Glad we kept him when we were told to dump him. Patience a LOT of patience was all it took. You can certainly see the 'rope horse' in him now days. :~)

Go to Amazon and BUY that CD! You'll love it!

    Info's up top here.

  • julz julz julz!!! u crack me up..by the way-- the OH shit strap, well lets just say, u had an oh shit moment!!lol

  • You aren't joking PAMMY! What a *surprising* way to start the little bareback riding adventure.

Stetson says: 'So you think you're feeling pretty good up there today... well check THIS out!'

Wasn't that BIG but it sure felt like it from up top. ROFL! Was cracking up laughing when he pulled up and I was still ON there. Ahhahhaaa!

He's such a funny horse. We love that horse!

So glad that rope was there as a just in case we need it 'Holy SH*T' strap.

    :~)

  • I'm with u (so much easier as a kid) I think you are ready for the bareback barrels after watching you on the feel good moment. LOL!!!

  • You're KIDDING Tina... you guys got a 'bareback barrels' class? REALLY? What a HOOT that must be. LOL!

Okay, Stetson and I will practice that event and come to Colorado for your next Gymkhana. Just kidding... Hehehe!

Your club does the funnest stuff. How cool is that? Good for you guys!

Keep having a blast with those horses.

Thanks for watching and leaving the good words. We appreciate that. :~)

  • LOL Julz--That was quite the "feel good" moment(s) by Stetson--Good velcro you got going there sistah! He's a very handsome boy and your seat/balance is exceptional . . .

  • Hi KAZ!

Wish it was.. this 'balance thing' isn't coming so easy for me. Better keep practicing bareback. Good exercise!

You notice I put on a thick jacket even tho it was like 90 degrees just in case the ground came up fast at me. Didn't want to get a 'sand rash' if I hit the dirt. LOL!

That Stetson, about the time I think he's slowing down a step, he still pulls a move on me. Life would be so boring without Stetson. Hehehe! :~)

    Thanks for watching!

  • Well what can I say, Julie you made my day. You are a really good rider. sure enjoyed your vid. thanks for letting us watch

    oh Dea !!!!!!!!

  • Hi Dea. Joe asked if I was trotting bareback, took THAT as a challenge. :~)

Actually trotting isn't the hard part, it's when Stetson has one of those 'feel good' moments you aren't expecting. LOL!

Big old horse has just GOT TO throw one or two of those moves on you every time you ride him. Just Stetson's nature to be that way, bless his heart. Horse can't help it... he says "Excuse me.. I thought you said you could RIDE." Ahhahhaaa!

Glad he's been steady while my hubby has been riding him.

  • Why did it always seem so easy as a kid? I remember hopping on bareback and ust kicking and riding out where ever the horse chose to go! We were nuts! lol

  • Hey STARS! How are you?

Yup, 15 some how feels wayyyy different than 50. ROFL!

Gots pics of me and gf's riding bareback & bare foot standing on our horses and trotting around like roman riding almost. CRAZY I tell ya'. Guess it's a fearless skill we shoulda hung on to. :~)

Hope all is well with you and yours.

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Yeehaw Julz! Boy, that Stetson is a legend... Good job staying on! So Joe hands out challenges, does he?
