My memories of this show are precious. As a kid, I would eagerly await Friday night at 9 or 10 when it would air. Then watch it by myself. It's funny because my memories would have me believe I did this for a very long time. Hard to believe there was only 1 season. I guess when you're 10, 8 months seems forever.
I remember watching this show in Australia in the late 1980s. This series had something which is missing from most TV programs these days: heart, soul and even tenderness. It was the story of a father and son, of travelers and poets, of earth frailties and star-scapes. We need more shows like this - that dare us to look up and dream.
I had no idea this even existed! Looks like I didn't miss much. I don't think I could ever take Robert Hayes seriously after seeing his 'drinking problem' in Airplane 1 & 2.
mb1968ca ...I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE! ...the 80's may have had SOME moments of "lameness", but the nostalgia that this era of TV brought was like capturing lightning in a bottle...
...lightning in a bottle, my friends, lightning in a bottle...
I loved this show. I hated it that they cancelled it. A lot of people may have been disappointed that they didn't get Jeff Bridges to play the alien on TV. Remember, the alien could have cloned anyone using their DNA.
I wonder did Michael Douglas think about that. He produced the movie and the entire show.
Todays there're too many crime shows like CSI, NCIS, etc... even 'Monk' was criminal show in some way. It's hard to find comfortable and warm show. Even the comedies are all black humors.
I really miss this show. Are all friendly aliens and alien fantasies dead?
@kilress Hi there. I am so your opinion about the V remake its not the same because the actours arent... And Starman please no remake, because R.H did such a good job acting the "Alien" Ps exuse my spelling i'm german...
I remember loving this series as a child. I still worked out how to play this song on my recorder and clarinet. Can still play it to this day. Love Robert Hayes..
I really miss the days when art/entertainment was shot on film. It had depth and grain to it, effortlessly pulling in the viewer and enabling the audience to empathize with the humanity on screen. Contrast that with today when everything looks like cold, fake plastic.
I never saw the TV series. Watching the opening titles it seemed that 'The Fugitive' was an influence (as it was for 'The Incredible Hulk'). Is this an accurate impression. How long did the TV show run? Always liked Robert Hays: he'd be good casting for this part.
@dafmurray, yes that is an accurate impression. And like those shows there was a melancholy air to this one as well. I found Starman to be really enjoyable. I think it only lasted a single season.
@dafmurray I LOVED this show, but my stepdad always made fun of it saying it was a ripoff of The Fugitive. I remember it wasn't on for long, maybe1 season, 2 seasons at the most? I was so upset when they cancelled it.
@dafmurray I LOVED this show, but my stepdad always made fun of it saying it was a ripoff of The Fugitive. I remember it wasn't on for long, maybe1 season, 2 seasons at the most? I was so upset when they cancelled it. Robert Hayes was fantastic.
I used to watch this show every Friday night when I was in my late teens. Why don't they make TV shows like this anymore instead of all the garbage they show today. Today it is either a CSI knock off or a stupid reality show. I cannot imagine kids today when they are older looking back at todays shows with the same affection that we now do looking back at shows like this.
Fuck I miss quality television. Too bad the spirit of the 80's will never be captured again. Sad.
Good luck to future generations, who care about nothing but their scores on net games and what they can buy with their useless fucking credit lines. Which is why they keep getting divorced and shit.
INTERESTING how Jeff Bridges in the "StarMan" series in '84 played an alien... And then in 2002, played a skeptical psychologist dealing with a man claiming to be an alien in the movie "K-PAX". Guess he liked it so much here, he forgot who he was!
I adored this series and managed to get it on dvd 5 years ago or so, transferred from someones VHS recordings. Great, except it looks like a budget series from today's POV. ;-) I would love it if they released it commercially.

The 80's as a kid. Life sucks cause we'll never have that time back again. It's easy to say to make the best of it till the end, but it's not easy to carry it out is it? I remember the episode when he finally finds his wife and she disappears in the morning. I was so mad at her. Haha.
He wasnt an Angel but a Alien General who was exiled for not going along with the peace accord after the war ended.
Respected for years of service but punished for his agression. He was imprisoned to a piss ant back water planet called Earth where if he learned to control his agression he would be set free from.
The eyeball was his guide and sort of jailor that made sure he behaved, when ever he was lost his temper he could harness his alien strength.

Then keep searching. This show was not a failure, by any standards. And there was no "floating red eyeball" involved.

why they wont do a new made for tv movie of starman the boy all be in his 30s now that mean the star man could leave he old anife to go on his own plus and they can show scot has lean now laern to ues his power like his dad has and fox has has died that mean they had live in pice and the starman could go back home and scot find his mom again and want to live with her they could do a 3 our made for tv fallow up movie on this show why not they
They cannot make it because people in charge of shows dont actually care about them, they only care how much it makes, which is why american idol is on 6 times a day and stasrman is cancelled.
I'm from Spain, and I remember this series very very deep into my mind, I was only a little kid back then (not more than 5 or 6 years) and I don't remember the show very well, but I rememberes EVERY second of the opening. The music, the images, they'll be always in my head. Almost tears on my eyes remembering it, so this goes to the uploader: THANK YOU
I'm from Spain too and i remember the opening exactly as you. the song, the first dialogues...amazing. I didn't see this since then. Long live the 80s...
Wow, again I'm impressed that Starman has even reached across language barriers! :) Love it! I tried to use Babel Fish to see what was commented, but it had some trouble with a few words; so I'm not entirely sure what has been said, but I know it was about the show. Anyone care to translate for us English speakers out here? btw THANKS you guys for all the great comments! It really makes my day each time I read one!
Another great guy to meet...very kind to all his fans! Now the last I heard about him, he was just enjoying life with his family & acting on a few things here & there...like he did That 70's Show briefly. He also was in an accident that pretty much broke his neck in the way Christopher Reeve's was, but by a miracle he didn't sever anything & is making a complete recovery with no paralysis. Thank God! :)
This show reminds me of the past, Starman was th Number one Show of the Eighties along with V The Tv Series, I can't believe I actually found the show I have been wanting to see since forever, Thanks for posting it up....It's also funny cause I had a crush on CB Barnes
I loved the movie as a young girl, and remember crying the tv series was cancelled...lol. PLEASE, if anyone knows where I can watch more than the one episode thats posted on youtube (which was great to watch), can they let me know? *smiles sweetly at complete strangers* LOL. P.s. Australian heart here, that was touched by this show!
Sorry aint been on in awhile to comment. I'm just amazed at the far reaching comments though. That a simple little show from 20 years ago & canceled so quickly could touch people around the world truly speaks to the greatness of the show! Starman is & always will be my favorite TV show ever! ^_^
Yes the show lasted about 2 seasons. I don't know if the show was ever finished with a happy ending? It was daring for ABC to sponsor a obscure movie for a t.v. series. I wonder if there will be a DVD release for this one. Shit, if the Blue Thunder t.v. series is out on DVD why not Starman, Automan or even Manimal.
It was and still is my all time favorite TV show. Bob Hays made Starman so believable. In January of 2006 I discovered that there were still fans that had gatherings. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the one in September 2006. It was better then Dutch Apple Pie. I think that the world needs a little Starman in our lives these days.
This is a shame. I think the time might be right for a sequel, given the bad blood in the world today. A sequel would be a nice way to embrace diversity, no?
Anniversary gathering? Lucky you! Just to add an element of global impact of this show, I'm actually from Singapore but residing in Australia now. Imagine a TV series stretching its fanbase all the way to Singapore! :) kewl...
WOW! Nice to meet another fan from out of the states! ^_^ I'm from Missouri; but many diff states across America & the countries of Germany, UK & Canada were all represented at the event I mentioned b4. Is just a shame that they don't make decent shows like this anymore. Is very hard to find a funny, strong & decent father/son relationship in today's TV shows.
Thank you for posting this! Sure brings back much fond memories from almost 20 years ago. And to think you've just uploaded this 1 day ago? What are the chances of me searching for STARMAN just minutes ago? Amazing world of internet :) Thank you once again.
Np..it remains my favorite TV show of all time!! It is so amazing how many people still enjoy it! I just got back from the 20th annv. get together for the show & there were at least 30-40 people from the fan club there & some were from other countries!...for a show that had 1 season 20 yrs ago that is just impressive! ^_^
My memories of this show are precious. As a kid, I would eagerly await Friday night at 9 or 10 when it would air. Then watch it by myself. Sleepy & Matrix -
You both have bias somewhere here, since you're on the extreme opinion for either the movie or the TV show. Reality is they both were GREAT!
I wonder if Sleepy even watched the show, cuz my experience with people has been the opposite percentage - the majority recognize Robert's brilliant performance in the series as well as Jeff''s in the movie. In fact, I don't rem anyone saying they hated either of them until now; & you both cancel each other out with your statements.

Thank God! :)

Hey, me too. Was wonderful to actually meet him in person! One of the few child stars that became a decent human being! :)

I never realized they had the starman tv series. I always thought they only had the movie. Nice :)

Yeah, ABC kept Kyle XY on, and it's almost like Starman.Starman was a little bit better though

Is very hard to find a funny, strong & decent father/son relationship in today's TV shows.

sequel script to feature film was written back in 1998 and sent to Jeff Bridge's office in U.S, but nothing materialised.
