  • There is no way that the massacre was carried out without Brigham Youngs go ahead....

  • @lisadavisshields71 Yes you are correct! His adoptive son, John Lee, was in charge of the bloodshed at Mountain Meadows Massacre.

  • Yes they are they cover up a lot just like the catholic church does why would they not wait for the prophets order they follow the prophet so really do you think people know they are bad no they don't they think they are doing the right just like hitler and the Jews

  • The LDS church is all about cover ups.

  • Lol. Its called objective journalism. Perhaps a lie would suit you better?Perhaps if you actually get to know Mormons as you call us you will find we are Ordinary people but negative propoganda is sadly taken serious and the product is the many views which are frankly not based in reality.

  • Wow this creepy church basically has the press doing it's own PR for it. Any state that would have it's media jump to defense of Brigam Young needs to take a long hard look at that bigoted racist. No, other christians aren't much better, but the mormons sure are stranger.

  • pattern in his life of avoiding blooshed?!?!? tell that to his danites whom he told if they aren't LDS then they are against us.....his danites killed tons, so in a way yeah he did avoid bloodshed on his own hands but not on his followers

  • mormons, morons, whats the difference?

    mormonism = cult

  • What a piece of "fair" journalism

And I think more like Fair's Journalism (Foundation for Apologetics Information and Research)

These "journalists" are very clearly bias, this is a case of news media's views coloring how they cover and report the news and a very poor job of being fair and balanced

  • typical utah news coverage. one sided and untruthful. I saw that movie and it was definitely anti-mormon. but i say who the fuck cares? if anyone here has lived in utah (i have) they know that the all the media there is one sided in favor of the mormons, no matter what the situation. The fact that they get all pissy about this movie is hypocritical beyond belief.

  • well this news is alittle one-sided, but i studied this before i became LDS, back when i thought Mormons were crazy. But what i learned, from a college history class, was that Brigham had nothgin to do with it, but only biggots, who were mormon, but not supported by the church

  • typical LDS attitude....push the blame on individuals, never own up to something their organization is responsible for, you will find truth some day....I was LDS 18 years, you follow men not god....also you won't become gods like D&C 132 says you will just so you know the bible is very clear on the subject of one god. 1 Samuel 2:2, 2 Samuel 7:22, Deuteronomy 32:39, Exodus 8:10, Isaiah 44:8, isaiah 45:22, Mark 12:32....of course you wouldn't know that Joseph had 31+ wives either would you?

  • hmmm...how can i be typical when i just became LDS. Look what happen was horrible, but history shows that it was a bunch of rengades, and Joseph had 33 wives to be exact, and you know i dont know how i feel about that, i am not one of those LDS who totaly loves joseph, that is really unhealthy i think, but i do beleive the BoM. And plz, dont call me a typical mormon lol, cause im really not, considering i just was baptized a couple weeks back, and the way i dance isnt typical for a mormon...

  • well I see and appreciate that you love the savior and not necessarily men

  • too much fiction claiming to be historical truth. Hey, calm down on the language about mormons. yes, mormons - not morons ...(!!)

  • The mormons involved in this massacre were living in a state of paranoia. Read the following historical events and you may get a better understanding of why they did what they did. The Haun's Mill massacre, the Battle of Crooked River, the Missouri extermination order, the murder of Joseph Smith, History of Nauvoo Illinois etc.

  • What is the proof you speak of in this book? I only recently learned of this massacre and am stunned. What amazes me most, is how this tragedy didn't become mainstream knowledge after 9/11/2001? "We will never forget"

  • "'September Dawn' oozes biased zeal...uses tragedy to bludgeon home its anti-Mormon agenda...a pedantic, cable-TV-caliber melodrama that bullies the audience into accepting its rather slanted, selective agenda" -Craig Outhier, The Orange County Register (23 August 2007)

  • Brigham Young was a psycopath!

Has anyone ever read his "Blood Atonement" doctrine?

  • September Dawn is an anti-Mormon film that is unbalanced and "mean spirited" as a film maker stated in the interview. Unfortunately Michael Cain doesn't mention horrors committed against the Mormons which often pale in comparison to Mountain Meadows. An example was the Hauns Mill massacre in Missouri when several Mormons were murdered including an elderly Mormon man who was chopped to pieces with a corn cutter.

  • It was wonderful to see a movie that represents the truth about the LDS faith.Of course here in Utah..they don't advertise the movie. Members follow like blind sheep...believing what they are told and history is changed according to the response they get from it.They believe they will be God's someday,..and they have to baptize non members after they die so they will have a chance. The crucifiction means nothing to them...they feel they are the one's that will save our souls.

  • "...the clunky, heavily skewed means by which this tale is presented is nothing short of egregious, with its Mormon characters demonized with such laughable gusto, and its Christian victims cast in such a holy, noble light, that the project quickly feels less like an attempt at historical truth-telling than like shameless anti-Mormon propaganda.... This cartoonish demonization persistently seems tied to a religious-political agenda." - Nick Sager, Slant Magazine (20 April 2007)

  • That's a bunch of crap. Latter-day Saints have complete faith in the atonement (which was sealed on the cross) of Jesus Christ. I cannot believe how stupid and ignorant you are about these things. The Book of Mormon itself describes that NONE OF US WILL BE SAVED WITHOUT CHRIST!! Can you get that through your thick skull? Latter-day Saints faith is centered in Jesus Christ and His atonement!

  • Who is lying to himself? I say it was the anti-Mormon in this news piece that said "Nothing happened in the Utah territory without Brigham knowing about it"? That is a joke, do you know how BIG the Utah territory was back then? As this news broadcast correctly reported, it took 6 days for a rider to get there. Well done ABC!

  • And they say that Hollywood doesn't try to manipulate politics. All these years and there have been no major motion-pictures about Mormons. Suddenly there's a Mormon running for President (with a decent chance) and now there's a major Hollywood film demonizing Mormons and Brigham Young. How convenient.

  • While I'm not condoning this film(I haven't seen it), you could hardly claim it's a premeditated attack on Romney. The film has been in production for years, well before Romney's announcement for candidacy. Also, are you seriously implying that the Mormon religion has received more undue criticism in film history than the others you've mentioned?

  • You have a valid point. It is the 150th anniversary of this tragedy, which may have more to do with it being released now. Also, if their intention was to harm Romney's chances it would be better to release it next year at this time. Overall, I think this film will be good for Mormons, despite the blatant inaccuracies.

  • REASON 2: Why pick on the Mormons for history? Name any religion that doesn't have tragedies like this in their history. Why aren't they making movies that paint Christians as being violent with the Christian Crusades and many other wars fought in the name of Christ, or the Jews as being violent even though their slaughter of the Canaanites is well documented and accepted as part of their history in the Old Testament?

  • Scientology.

  • REASON 1 (CONTINUED) No mention is made about the climate of fear created by the atrocities that had been suffered by the Mormons from mobs who had killed many hundreds of them, raped their women, burned their homes and murdered their leader?

  • REASON 1 (CONTINUED) No mention is made about the climate of fear created by the atrocities that had been suffered by the Mormons from mobs who had killed many hundreds of them, raped their women, burned their homes and murdered their leader?

  • Why is this film bigoted and anti-Mormon? REASON 1: Because it leaves out the context in which this terrible tragedy took place.

  • If Brigham Young said, "I am the voice of God, and anyone who doesn't like it will be hewn down." These are the words of a tyrant. A book written by a BYU professor, and LDS historians would reek of bias. They get their Salaries paid by the LDS church. Every word of that book may need the approval of everyone form Hinkley on down.

  • Exactly, Any fact you present to the Mormon church they automatically say "Oh well now thats not true, let me just go get some Church document written by US and I'll show you that it says WE didn't do it"

  • Where is it documented that Brigham young said "I am the voice of God, and anyone who doesn't like it will be hewn down."?????????? Theseare lines from a movie.

  • Dunno. But I do remember when Alex. Haig said "I am in charge" (He forgot that Constitutional bit about the Vice President, I guess, hunh?)

  • Never heard of the guy. Elaborate.

  • Alexander Haig was secretary of state when Ronald Reagan got shot. Instead of the VP taking over (Bush I was out of town), he claimed he was in charge by virtue of the presidential succession--til the vp returned. He was wrong, of course: Pres, VP, Senate Pres Pro-tem, house speaker, then Secy of State.

  • Was the guy Mornon or something? Is that the compatison?

  • Mountain Meadows Massacre on 9/11/1857 is the Mormon's 9/11. It's never been established for certain what Brigham Young's involvment was in the the massacre. There's a lot of parallels between Joseph Smith and Muhammad. Both practiced polygamy, wrote a book that God told them to write, and both were self appointed phophets. As far as this BYU Mormon professor writing a book about the massacre that's a bit like a communist writing about communism.

  • "D minus.... Clearly "September Dawn" is constructed as an anti-Mormon diatribe disguised as a historical narrative.... Like most 'historical' pictures, [it] has serious problems in historical terms. But in this case they're exacerbated by the simple ineptitude of the filmmaking." - Dr. Frank Swietek who is not only a film critic, but also Associate Professor of History at the University of Dallas

  • Virtually all Christians who participated in persecution and murder against the Mormons did their deeds in the name of religion.

  • It is weird that mormons call it antimormon. Well, if it is then who killed the 125 people is my question. Any who do you think was the majority living in Utah during that time???

  • I ABSOLUTELY HOPE this film fails!!!

  • You should read the book by Steven E. Farley on the Mormon Mountain Meadows Massacre. He answers a lot of questions in his book.
