I just live about say 5 full minutes from a Roy Rogers that's on the Turnpike but there used to be one on the other side of my House on the other block still bless Roy Rogerts himself!!!
I-87/Thruway has 3 of them & there are more on I-84 in NY State. The only one left in NYC is across MSG. All the others are gone. There was a nice one w/ 2 floors on Broadway right by the WTC, but after 9/11 it just lost business & closed. They probably had to do a hell of a cleanup in there with the debris.
It's still around, but in much smaller numbers. They have/had restaurants in Maryland (where it originated), NY, NJ, PA, CT, and MA from what I remember. There were many of them before. At least in the 100's. There are 3 on I-87, some on I-84 in NY, one across MSG in Manhattan, some in Maryland, and a few in Massachusetts. There was one on I-84 in CT close to Hartford, but I think that one's gone.
The next time I'm there, I have to check it out. I went to the one at the New Baltimore rest area on the Thruway last night. The ones on the Thruway have a new Spicy Chicken sandwich that's pretty good.
I'm in Jersey now too but am originally from Woodside Queens (where they had my favorite Roy's restaurant). I had the best Gold Rush Chicken Sandwich I ever had there. Next time I go to one, I'm going to take some chicken pieces home besides the stuff I eat there. I loved their chicken pieces & it's been a long time since I last had it. Their desserts were also good. The sundae & strawberry shortcake were very good. The one on I-84 by Hartford, CT had it a few years ago.
But I didn't get the sundae that night. Last time I drove through Hartford on I-84, I didn't see that one anymore (it was a standalone Roy's). The one in Newington, CT on 15 (Wilbur Cross Pkwy) is also gone & was also a standalone restaurant.
Oh! This is where I have that jingle in my head! It was from this Roy Roger's commercial! Wow, great mystery that has been solved.

Who would EVER eat burgers with dancing legs sticking out of them? At least Roy Rogers gave you a choice: legs and/OR arms {mustaches optional}!
