  • Sounds like new.

  • nice.....old engines are works of art ....beautiful mechanical masterpieces

  • Love that engine .

  • take that prius!!

  • wow, awesome job man

  • sounds like you ran outta gass there sparky

  • Sounds like a WW2 fighter plane.....

  • beautiful

  • that real neet the ld one with no valve covers the wa it was built I understand one strike against buick was the dynaflow stranmition was there any adnantage?? there was an impoveement a2 spped anul for pasing and going down long steep grades I know the ealy bus atuomatic trans was torqu convertr that had an over riding clutch that would cutit out at a certain speed and power go duirectly to the wheels then they adid gears more andmoer speeds

  • One option on these cars you never see anymore: a built-in air compressor which was driven by the engine. Engage a clutch on the distributor drive shaft and you have instant air to fill up your tires. Of course you had to remember to stop the thing before you left; it won't stand running any faster than engine idle speed.

  • Sounds like a piper cub ready for takeoff. Great Job.

  • if they still built them like this they would not have to fear bankruptcy LOL

i would buy one like this anyday

  • @mciceteade damn right. so would i. low rpms etc, with maintenance these things wouldNOT die

  • To answer the question on valve lubrication, on top of the engine you see three what are called rocker boxes that you fill up with oil pretty much every time you drive the car the oil caps are those silver things that look like golf tees sticking straight up on top of the engine, so you carry a squirt can of oil every where you go. You had to be bit of a mechanic to even drive a car in 1919

  • how do the valves get lubrication?

  • Bitchin!

  • mmmm yer also gonna fuck it up runnin it with no coolant , lad!

  • The most advanced engine of its day. The first American OHV engine and the first OHV automotive engine to be put into mass production.

  • very cool sound... i bet when its complete finished.. it also looks awesome :D

  • love vids in this

  • It's funny how a straight six sounds so much better than a v-6.

  • @TheSpazModic You're not kidding. I had an 300ci F-150 with just a straight exhaust (no muffler). It sounded BETTER than my 350ci K5 Blazer. Kind of a mean, angry snarl vs a bellowing V-8.

  • @TheSpazModic firing order ;-)

  • @TheSpazModic I agree and with that they don't just sound better they are better. Inline = tough as hell.

  • @hpjunky70 They do seem to be tough. Maybe it's because so many of them had seven main bearings.

  • american cars are still hanging on.good to see

  • Very very nice!!!!

    regards singer

  • When better cars are built, Buick will build them!

  • cool

  • Esta vivo! vivo, jajajajajajaja

  • Much enjoyed. Thank you.

  • too coool

  • great work, than ks

  • love the sound of that engine full marks to you for restoring it and sharing the vid :)

  • simply gorgeous to see an old engine turn over and run, that engine just wanted to run.

  • Straight 6's are bullet proof!

  • Love those straight 6s they always sound like tractors

  • digging it man.. i like

  • even what engine, car what ever.

older it get better engine sound.

  • i know right...honda or imports cant do this....ill sell my car and buy this lolol

  • Did you restore it? ( Finished it, and can you post a video? )

  • lets see your every day honda or import do that....nuff said

  • 1919 and it runs that well? I'm amazed at how well things were made then that it runs today.

  • @dieselchevette It's amazing until you realize that the average life between rebuild was something like 25-30,000 miles. People just didn't drive their cars as much, and the few that did own automobiles really had to have a lot of mechanical knowledge. Breakdowns were frequent, which is part of the reason nearly every gas station was also a full service garage.

Still, I love old motors and greatly appreciate the people who put in the time and energy to keep them around.

  • I love the fact that you worked on that engine to bring it back to life rather than just adding to a scrap pile and swapping it with a newer one. Nice Job, the engine does sound great

  • put ur hand in that fan :D

  • Is this an aeroplane?

  • @SuomiTheFinlandia Nope, it's a Buick! As the title might suggest. ;)

  • @gymkhanadog It was a joke. It looks like its about to set off, because of the fan spinning in the front :)

  • Precioso, beautiful

  • wow hermoso!!!!

  • is this an 6 cylinder?

  • sounds like a old fighter plane no lie

  • whats the CI of that? looks like it has a hell of long stroke

  • How cool is that; external pushrods and old school inline-6 that sounds like a beefed-up small block Chevy!

  • @brapboys503 Certainly dont have to tear the shit out of the head to change a lifter!!

  • @iwashere339 That's true! Very easy to work on tractor technology like this.

  • No engines were harmed in making of a this movie.

  • Comment removed

  • If you like the sound of this engine watch some of IH Farmall 656 gas and LP tractors, they sound very similar, including when they run out of gas, I know I drive one occasionally. Love that OHV straight 6 sound.

    1-5-3-6-2-4

  • amazing to see that old cars and engines never die :-)

    best regards from austria

  • Good job, thank you for the video.

  • Awesome, after 60 years of sitting she breathes to life. Cant beat the old American iron, nothing ever will.

  • Very nice sound. Love those exposed valves, I would be terrified to have them exposed on modern cars, lol...great sound!

  • great

  • Back in 1919 even Mercedes Engines werent more modern!

  • That thing is cool

  • Wonderfull sound very much like a mix of a diesel Bulldozer engine and a flight engine! LOVE THE SOUND!

  • love that sound

  • Wow... this is so cool... Love to see someone doing something with the old Buicks, being a Buick man myself. :)

  • I could watch videos like this all day.

  • gonna go flying now? :P

  • i dont know anything about engines, but this sounds really good!

  • THAT WAS NICE, IT WORKS LOL

  • Wow, not bad for a 92 year old engine...very nice sound!

  • straight six or eight?

  • It's fascinating watching the valves bobbling up and down, nice engine, nice vid.;-)

  • THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. sounds like a plane engine

  • Fantastic sound.....Jeezzz

  • That was pure joy to watch.

  • Fantastic engine.

  • i bet that gets good gas mileage... lol NOT

  • i love me a, AWOOOOGGGAAAA horn

  • Sounds like an airplane engine, and the external push rods make it look like it.

  • This engine sounds fantastic! :D

  • Good looking ol pushrod!

  • So apart from the spectacle of seeing such old world engineering roar back into life again

    ceep going on restoration

    Regards

  • Can't figure out how you keep dust out of the engine and lubricate the overhead valve gear, seems a strange way to build an engine?

  • sweet find.

    cool vid.

  • No problem to run it without coolant,it's not under any load pressure.....Good job man!

  • this video was posted 3 yrs ago... ever get the car drivable? or still in search of a rear like the previous owner 50+ years ago? lol

  • Realy Awesome sound!

  • That is awsome! Good luck with it...I am jealous

  • It sounds great!! =)

  • That is genuinely interesting. 300k is right around the corner.

  • so, whats the story behind this motor? Why hadnt it been started since 1952?

  • sounds like an airplane!

  • @arypma I think 100 people have said that already, including me about 3 years ago, lmao!

  • @vwbusssesareforever whatever

  • @arypma jus sayn. I said it sounded like a ww2 plane

  • i love exposed engines like this were you can see the rods etc... i just wana....... mate with it :/

  • Cool video, good job on the start-up.

  • that runs so smoothly, especially for not having been started in that long! some amazing engineering... I couldn't even hear a misfire

  • AWESOME!

  • OHV engine at 1919, impressive!

  • Glad to see it run running again! Take good care of it!

Made way back in time, when a car maker didn't need a bailout!

    Great work!

  • history came back

  • Beautiful, the time of when GM built indestructible engines. And it's been that long since its been started? Thumbs up!

  • beautiful piece of enginering :) thumbs up!

  • I love it.

  • this isa REAL ENGINE

  • There are bigger engines, more powerful, more modern, and much louder!! but that has to be THE best sounding engine on youtube:))))

  • Wow. Didn't know they had OHV engines back then.

  • cool thanks for posting that vid first time iv seen a motor that old running

  • Hey, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for watching my little vid! Now over 260,000 views. Be sure to check out my other video on my channel that shows parts of this car and also the engine disassembled! Thank you for the comments!

  • @monkeybiscuits78 hey, i got a real buick 1919 engine. just laying around here. no rust att all.. i think its works. been here in our warm house for 60 years. my grand grand dad did restore it. so. you know how much its worth ?

  • Ohne Kühlwasser ist der Motor jetzt SCHROTT!!!!

  • @TheAndreas1969 naw, motors can run actually quite a while with no cooling water in them without any harm whatsoever. The motor was fine after the video.

  • @TheAndreas1969 7,500 horsepower top fuel dragsters run without coolant. maybe you should contact them and let them know they're doing it wrong.

  • @TheAndreas1969

Not after less than a Minute. It needs higher load and longer duration. E.g. a woman drove her Chevy with a 350 engine with no cooling fluid for about 50 km (30 mi) with max. 50 mph. The result was that the cylinder heads were distorted.

  • @TheAndreas1969

Hä, wegen nichtmal einer Minute laufzeit? Selten solch Bullshit gelesen,...

  • @TheAndreas1969 nope isser nicht und alte motoren schon garnicht, weil sie alleine durch die additiven 10 l sprit der dann noch irgendwo verdampft gekühlt werden^^

  • a cippo a forcella motors

  • cool airplane!

  • Epic

  • Not just cool, but mega cool! I love seeing such old timeless pieces of engineering get coaxed back to life - well done monkeybiscuit!

  • What a great sounding engine.....

  • Beautiful note it puts out. Kind of sounds like an aircraft engine.

  • Long pushrods! Where is the camshaft, looks like it's somewhere lower in the block?

  • @trucking604 the lifters are right at the base of what you can see of the pushrods. the cam is right under those. i have another video with this motor apart, you should check it out!

  • cool to see those valves working, and it starts better than most VW 's from 2000+ do :)

  • I assume that this amazing-looking engine will be fitted with a radiator when ready to roll.Yes?

  • Dude that music is heavenly!

  • sounds more like an aircraft engine then an car engine :D

  • with a few minor adjustments, it's off to the skies! I love it!

  • Woah, is that an old turbo?

  • @ASpamSandwich I thought so too. But l think its a water pump.

  • awesome engine man .....:-)

  • good job on cleaning the engine. sounds clean and smooth.

  • Wow that is a very cool, very old engine which sounds like it is in prime running order. Awesome to see the exposed valve design.

  • It is very nice to see old engins still is running and being taken care of the way they deserves to be

  • No valve cover?

  • can i have that kind of engine put in my car? pretty please??

  • please tell me that this car is getting a restoration and not being rat rodded....

  • My mom had a sewing machine just like that.

    Seriously though, really cool!

  • thank you

  • Very cool. You young guys are seeing an engine as if the valve cover was missing........that's all. They built them this way back then. You had to oil the tappets from time to time, and keep them clean. Only 10 to 15 years before this, people relied on horses to get around. This engine was built only 100 or so years ago. It should make you appreciate your Honda with the fuel injection, and A/C, and the fancy stereo!

  • Its running like brand new!

  • looks like itd be a pain to change the spark plugs in this thing...

  • @dwnrety1 nah, dude. change the plugs in a 2000 dodge caravan, and then tell me those plugs'd be a pain!

  • @bigstitz id rather do the plugs in a dodge caravan than change the spark plugs in pretty much any subaru...

    :)

  • @dwnrety1 got that right!! one downside to a boxer. lol

  • Overhead valve! And those exposed tappets are cool.

  • My god what a great sound. Reminiscent of the old liberty engines used on planes and boats . Thanks for posting !

  • So apart from the spectacle of seeing such old world engineering roar back into life again, I couldn't help but notice the valves appear to be on the tops of the cylinders.. This thing has no head or in/outlet manifold? Wouldn't crap get sucked right into the cylinders? Mad rebuild!

  • @BlacKSacrificE the head and cylinder block are cast as one piece. no head gasket. you load the pistons into the bottom of the cylinders when putting the motor together. And it has a normal intake and exhaust manifold like most modern american inline 6's that you can see on the far side of the motor right before it runs out of fuel. only difference being it has an updraft carburetor.

  • @monkeybiscuits78 I'm kind of flabbergasted Buick was so advanced back then, that's quite an engine. You don't have to worry about blowing a head gasket on that little honey do you. She sounds pretty good too, I'm impressed.

  • @BlacKSacrificE I read somewhere that that's the design Buick became known for. The overhead valve engine. Their cars actually could outperform the Ford cars of the day, and Ford at the time boasted rather exceptional performance. I may be mistaken, but that's just what I remember.

  • Beautiful and fully vintage engine

  • Sounds Great!!!

  • who needs valve covers??

  • how is it that 2 idiots can dislike this video, they should be banned from youtube, that couple seconds is engineering + History + work of art

  • @nrajcoomar absolutely. theres always got to be those people that will try and stir up the bees nest for fun.

  • @nrajcoomar

    Looks like 6 idiots now

  • Those are aftermarket rocker arms ?

  • @seapeddler Thats all 1919 factory stuff.

  • @monkeybiscuits78 I know they are probably original rockers. It was pure punnage.

  • oh yeah baby, thats the way to wake me up!!!!!!!!!

  • now that is cool

  • Part 2. Their advertising showed 8 guys standing on a Cadillac frame with engine and drivetrain only (no fuel). It stated that it travelled around in a circle with just the starter turning over the engine to move the vehicle. This was a demonstration of the electric starter's reliability.

  • Great video!!

Gunbroker100 GM was founded in 1908 with Buick as the first marque so this indeed was a "GM" product. By this time Cadillac and Oldsmobile, AC Sparkplug, Mott Axle Co. and others were in the fold. Chevy and Oakland (later renamed Pontiac) were later.

Mr. Brombrom, The electric starter was invented by Charles F. Kettering of Dayton Electronics Co. (Delco) fame, which was eventually a GM company, in 1912. It was first installed on Cadillacs (who also had the first V8). Their

  • u no if u are hungry u can put ur hand on the twirly thingy n u will get hand stew

  • Valve springs and rods outside the block? Wait..
