It makes me feel all warm n tingly. This is THE best music ever made in the eighties. It has a feel that thankfully has never been revisited by modern "bands" or brought back to the stage for fuckin retro gigs. Indie and so un-mainstream its untrue. :)
one of the two best songs ever, in my opinion. i've been listening to this and baba o'riley regularly for over 20 years. other songs come and go, but those two songs i just keep playing. i think i still have the 12" somewhere in my basement, though i haven't had a record player since about '95.
I had downloaded a version years ago, with a girl in the video that stole a record and danced to it at home. I can't seem to find that version anymore. Reformat :( If anyone could direct me to that one, it would be much appreciated.
"The vocal track on the original 12" version features an audible scream during the song's intro. Vocalist Bernard Sumner has since explained that the scream was from him due to fellow bandmates thrusting a snowball down his shirt during recording."
Brilliance. This was the first version I had (from the 1981-1982 EP on Factory Records) and the best. It was raw. It was underproduced. It was electronic garage rock. Complemented with the sublime "Everything's Gone Green", this EP was the soundtrack of my life during that time.
I had the original 12" of this - this version if I'm not mistaken - and it has never been released on CD, which is a pity. It is by far the best version.
Damn, 24 yrs ago this song came out I think.....still measures the test. NO was finally out from the shadow of JD and had their own sound......whats the chorus and whats the coda....this song can play forever and still sound awesome

@spinct83 And the fact he'd taken half a tab of acid during the session, lol.

@EnochLight # "Temptation" and "Confusion" were re-recorded in 1987 especially for Substance and none of the original versions appear.

Sublime. Simply sublime. In fact, perfect.

Can Justin Beiber do this?

@zakalwe101 : it was released on CD on the "1981-1982 EP" on Factory Records. Bought it in 1988.

It's definitly the best version. More of a Joy Division vibe.

Wow, this is the first time I hear this version and I find it so much better than the one on Substance. The Substance version is just to exagerated.
