@TristanJacksonTV in a sense you are correct if cigarettes were so dangerous why does it usually take over 30 years of smoking to kill you and many thousands of cigarettes.....where as you first ride on a motorcycle could be your last
This commercial reminds me of that episode of Pinky and the Brain where Brain was addicted to cigarettes as the result of a lab test, and somehow became the mascot for the tobacco industry. I'm sure it's on YouTube somewhere.
Hey, kids!!! If Fred and Barney can light one up, so can you. Just go sneak a cigarette from your dad's pack, light it up and puff away. Don't worry about those head spinning and queasy stomach feelings, they'll go away. Just enjoy that cigarette and be like Fred and Barney, lazy jerks who won't help around the house, yet can enjoy a cigarette while they watch their wives work. I guess smoking eliminates guilt.
reminds me of the old tv game shows...host :" So, tell us YOUR name doll'...female contestant : " I'm Mrs. John Smith from River Glen". host ; ' So Mrs. Smith..what does your husband do in River Glen?" WTF ??? no one ever sd HEY WAIT !! MY name is Nancy and I'll tell you what I do,,,,,,,just accepted. It was a golden time in many ways,,,,but there was an under current of wrongnesss and a building surface tension that was bound to explode the way it did.

Because R.J. Reynolds was a co-sponsor of 'THE FLINTSTONES" during its first two seasons [they considered it enough of an "adult" cartoon series to sell their cigarettes], Fred, Barney, and most of the cast appeared in an "integrated commercial" for Winston at the end of the episodes they sponsored. That's how much power sponsors had on network television when this originally aired in 1961.
@TheDallas3 ya .... HAPPY DAYS... women today cant boil an egg... and act like men.. .. its no longer my friends " A MANS WORLD " its a womans world... they never loose.... there never wrong, they win at Court... they kick you out and keep the kids... they drink more than men, they smoke more than men.. etc...
I want to see the episode where Barney and Fred LITE UP for real! They take Dino for a joy ride to Bronto Burger for the munchies then get a DUI in the Bedrock jail!
though i don't smoke and know they're bad for your health i'm not a part of this if you smoke you're an alien crap. and yes adults watched flinstones because it came on primetime.
@rangelbabys about your post of 3 years ago......so do you have lung cancer even though you don't smoke?......what kind of job do you have.....any bad exposures to asbestos or something?

Everyone knows cartoons are for children and adults would never never watch a cartoon about cave men living in the stone age that like cigareettes. No that would never happen. All adults avoid acrtoons. They never never see them. Only children do.
Well it really did not matter how they advertised cigarettes back then kids could buy smokes there was no age limit and you could buy cigarettes out of machines like candy bars! So Fred and Barney having a Winston was the least of their worries, It was a much influence when your dad sent you to the corner store to buy him a pack of Camels, it was a different world back then!
@9evilnine9 actually i was born in 1954 and any kid I knew who tried to buy cigatettes was always denied. Even when I was a teen in the 60s I had to get them out of a machine
@inkey2 I was born in 1969 and I can remember walking to the corner store with my older brother and he would buy smokes for my grandma he was born in 1966 this was maybe 1975 I guess it depends on where you were.
@9evilnine9 I am in massachusetts.....they have always been very strict about anything....tobacco, gun ownership......in this state you can't own a slingshot, bb gun, crossbow, blow gun, pellet gun...
@inkey2 I am in Indiana and kids probably couldn't just buy smokes eveywhere, corner stores in neighborhoods were different than the convenient stores today, they knew us and my grandma who lived a few houses down, the world seemed like a better place back then, I don't feel comfortable letting my kids run around as much as I was able to when I was their age!
holy shit is that winston!

I can't believe Fred let Wilma mow the lawn! She's so dainty. And after she was done, he should've offered her a cigarette.

Back in the 60's we could buy a pack of smokes from a machine for a quarter! A lot of people were introduced to that addiction very early. Go wonder.
