  • i don't believe she would have been too broken up if Germany won the war

  • She was a terrific film-maker. Watch her documentary about the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It's 30 years ahead of its time.

  • She collaborated with Hitler in a very conscious manner to promote Nazi supremacist ideology. What one must do is decide whether to separate art as a supreme human endeavour from the moral implications of being human. She made her choice. What is yours?

  • @letsif Tell me, do you stretch that thought to all of those Germans who worked to make the 1936 Olympics the brilliant event that they were? (The first televised event in history) After all Hitler tried hard to associate his political movement with that. How about German architecture, or scientific advances or the worlds first public health programs to get people to stop smoking. Just what "moral implications" are you talking about here, especially those judged BEFORE the fact.

  • Look its incredible that its alright to arrest and condemn Osama Bin Ladens driver and have double standards for a woman who actually adored Hitler and served his purpose. With the huge coffers of money she had it is no small wonder that her docs were grand don't you think?

  • To: @simwill99

He who is without guilt throw the first stone!

And to throw ALL Germans into the same NAZI pot - shows a distinct lack of intelligence.

Now go and back to your sandbox and play.

  • very mature.

  • She was Jewish, wasn't she?

  • Hitler was gay according to German historian Lothar Machtan. Leni was his faghag.

  • @musiclover1958 Lothar Machtan's claims would be a little more believable if he actually had any EVIDENCE, and not just innuendo of his own making, and were not Jewish, throwing instant suspicion on his motives.

  • Riefenstahl and Speer where gifted at using the image visual media phenomena, Hitler was just an early example of the Elvis and Beatles phenomena. Cultivating potentials of grandeur fueled the emotions of the German people as it would have done, any nation - the media is a powerful tool for manipulating minds - the same gullibility lives on today in teen pop culture to religion. We have not learned much. We need to educate ourselves about being aware of the mind and the emotions.

  • if anyone is interested we the fuhrer legion in scotland have a cup from hitlers own table from the bunker we will be putting it on display at our next meeting on sat 13th feb 2010,at the dean bowling club..it was taken by misch hitlers telephone operator and bodyguard. he gave it to myself last year as a momento, may he live forever, heil hitler

  • She reminds me a little of Ruth Gordon in "Rosemary´s Baby".

  • LOL! True!

  • What an exceptional and fantastic woman.

  • did leni do adolf?

  • How? Adolf was asexual. He never condemned homosexuals either.

  • New historical researches say that he was active with Eva Brown.

  • Pure opportunist who chose the wrong side.

  • You sound like a far superior human being.

  • Seldom seen someone so egocentric and selfish. She was a great director, o.k.. But she had no empathy, there was never a single word of regret, or remourse... I think if Hitler won the war and finished the Shoa, she would have been quite fine with it.

  • i agree

  • so what?

  • Yeah, I can see why she became a director. An actress, she wasn't.

  • Her acting is rather unconvincing in this interview.

  • This video is great :) Leni sounds like a great woman!

  • lilli von shtupp

  • She was beautiful and a genius.

  • The truth is Leni was a supporter and close friend to Hitler and as late as 1945 she tried to put her enemies in concentration camps. She even used prisoners as unpaid extras in her films. She refered to people as the "Jew" so and so and after the war she tried to paint herself as a victim. Bull. She made active political propaganda films not just entertainment films.

  • @ZarahLean

Everyone likes to get rid of their enemies, and why pay prisoners?

  • @ZarahLean And you know this how?.

  • I really like her accent.

  • Poor thing! She was only coerced! She was just a young innocent Aryan maiden! She may even believed so by the time she was reaching 100!

  • O yes! My heart bleeds for her! We played this footage at College when we did non-verbal communication as part of our Psychology course. What is really pathetic is that she believes that she is convincing.

  • It's like being the only adult in a room full of children. ;)

  • Most of humanity spends their time trying please the gods of this world. They have avoiding eyes, ignoring eyes, but you fucking people always bring them back don't you?

  • hitler is win

  • she mentioned a " STRAFCOMPANIE"

a "strafcompanie" is a punishment companie. they would clear mines, and do other dangerous things. i am sure that if leni had spoken to a person in authority her brother would have been saved. BUT! she was a nazi. and i think that says it all.

  • she was an anti-semite like all of the other top nazis. she loved it, she made money out of it, she didnt care about anyone but herself. she made the most pro nazi film of the nazi era. she died of natural causes not like other people during that period. her parting shot was (YOU MUST FINISH, I AM GETTING TO EXITED) how did the people going to their deaths in the gas chambers feel, CALM!

  • "she made money out of it" Well, it's what you people have been doing throughout history, making money, investing capital, manipulating markets, running up the price of your precious gold, goldberg, silverstein, blumberg, silvergoldstein, MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY

  • Bernankruptcy. "you people" what people do you mean? oops! i should have looked at your comment as a whole. you obviously mean jews, dont you? it just goes to show that all the old values still exist, anti semitism being in the forefront of your mind. leni was a pro nazi and an anti semite. for a so called great film maker, i dont recall ever seeing any of her films, unless they are screened regarding hitler, "the rise and FALL of the third reich" no oscars for leni.

  • Oh relax, just having some fun. Besides the worst anti-semites are just self-hating jews anyway. The maggots await all of us in the end.

  • Bernankruptcy. me too, most people hate themselves at some point in their lives. and, you are right, the maggots are all waiting in line for each and every one of us.

  • Germany has made a fantastic contribution to the modern world ..... they cannot be constantly stigmatised for the WAR ...... they have learned where many others have not ..... genocide which seems almost unbelievably infantile is still in the world .... you just have to view kosovo, rwanda etc it is not a german trait of character but a human one and this is the real problem that people become so self righteous that they cannot see it in themselves.

  • spot on

  • tyranny.

the idea that the nazis were a freak accident instigated by one psychopath is a *very* dangerous fallacy, as dangerous as any of the fallacies in nazi-ism...

  • She was a real badass, learning rock climbing just to shoot a movie, agreeing to be buried under an avalanche, spending 8 months with an African tribe all alone, being the most important and innovative female director in history. Who gives a fuck about self-assigned champions of justice and political correctness? They don't know a shit about anything, most of them weren't even there!

  • She gives it away. The body language, the eye movements, the microexpressions. The brother that she loved very much is a smoke screen. Look at the way she feigns emotion, and when telling the cameras to stop says "I'm too EXCITED".

  • RIP Leni, your not guilty. You just did your Job!

  • I would say that Leni Rifenstahl was forced to deny her ns views on the post-war trials. She was never denazified. And the jews were so scared that such a famous person would get the truth about the camps and the Holohoax out that they again made a trial about some gypsie case what she was 100.

  • whEn she was 100, sorry

  • an really emancipated women

  • please at least act like you have some kind of a brain.

  • a great artist La Leni..........love her

  • She was a talented artist but very ignorant. I don't believe she was a bad person at heart, rather she saw what she wanted to see and ignored what she knew was wrong.... unfortunately she allowed her desire for unlimited artistic expression to over ride her conscience.

  • She admits her ignorance, saying it was difficult to see the danger then - which was obvious now. She is a very complicated figure and I tend to be sympathetic towards her.

  • There are a lot of nazis on this You Tube protecting this monster... marlene dietrich, anti-nazi said riefenstahl was a nazi and her actions clearly proved it. Whats the difference between being an artist or a street cleaner? She used prisoners and loved Hitler. That is true

  • dude im doing a report on this for my school and she was kindof forced into making the movie, she isnt a nazi she made the movie to benifit her film career- which it did

  • " Dude I'm doing a school report"? Come on you silly ass! We could also say that Hitler was just trying to benefit his military career. What difference does it make what you do if the means to the end involves murder and torture. Really think about what you are saying...

  • No no, hitler quite clearly wasn't thinking about his career, he was running the ultimate monopoly. Not getting there, being there. He was also taking more crystal meth than any poverty stricken meth head.

Hitler was *fully* committed to his role, it wasn't a stepping stone...

  • lol is she speaking english?

  • She was such a smart person and intelligent enough to see that she will support the system with this "art-documentary" - Triumph des Willens.

Maybe after the war she had many problems and felt guilty and punished and that she is a women. Ofter supporter had quite less problems when she had...

But the there is still the question if she was aware of the fact that riefenstahl was totally supporting the regime with this "documentary".

  • Leni was a professional in her field and'not interested in'politics and'most of the people didnt know about the things happening in the concentration-camps; same as we dont care about whats going on in the CIA-orFEMA-prisons today!

We get to learn our lesson mostly when its over and we can look back at our failures; same'she did and now she dont want to be reminded all'the time and'made responsible for what she never did and for what she never was responsible.

    Respect'her work and nothing else!

  • Wow...

The ignorance defense, even after all this time.

    Nicely played, Ahmadinejad.

  • Aah I see: there is a jewish friend and'supporter.

I just wonder about it, how you came to this page?

You must be really interested in the subject!

There is no ignorance at all; even there would be doubts.

But could it be, that there could be some ignorance'on your site?

What do you know about this'time; do you know, what is going-on behind'bars?

Or are you just ignorant enough, to think: that this'was'the past and nowadays such things never would happen again?

    They do'but you dont know'

  • I really don't think that america has such a serious problem as germany had, the propaganda is more insidious, the technology much more sophisticated.

One should also note that lots of the people creating the CIA/FEMA type dodginess were the high ranking nazis imported by the USA through the CIA.

But if america gets into a big big trouble, the seeds are there for tyranny far worse than hitler.

  • Yes America has its biggest potential for it now. They also fear to loose their world-power to others like China. Therefore the wars for strategic territories and'resources.

You think that the American propaganda is more insidious or the Nazi-German?

    What means dodginess?

Now the old Nazis are gone but they might have left some structure for the new ones.

I still like to compare Americas situation today with Germanys in the past. Both countries need to fight their enemies before they'overcome us

  • Dodginess means suspicious & possibly criminal evasiveness.

The more secret aspects of any government border on the immoral, but in the case of America's postwar "covert" activities it's been so far into immoral they're up there with the nazis, WW2 japanese and Stalin.

    Check Cointelpro & MKULTRA.

Do I think that the propaganda is as bad as the Nazis? No way. The Nazis had a monopoly on media like China today.

However, Fox makes CCTV, china's official TV channel... oho.

  • Hi Everyone. You should read the book: "The LIfe and Work of Leni Riefenstahl" by Steven Bach.

  • You know what I don't understand. People are like ....

"OMG WTFFBBQ, she hung out with Hitler??!?!? She must be a hardcore Nazi and should be found guilty in a court because we all learned in our little history classes that all Germans are bad." Honestly guys don't sound retarded. I could care less that she made the "Triumph of the Will" documentary. Hell, what would she do if she told Hitler she didn't agree? Take a person from the media today and tell that to Barack, he won't care.

  • yes maybe we didnt learn the right things at'school and we might have difficulties in'understanding the mood at this'time

  • yes.

At the same time, she did tell him that she didnt wish to work with him. but then there was whole coercion thing...

  • Just like the people in Germany didn't know how dangerous and how bad it really was in their country at that time,

so do the americans not know how bad it is in America and how much danger they are in.

  • eventhough what the high ranking nazis did was wrong. not every one who was in germany at the time of all this crazy shit was bad. my mother was 22 years old when the war ended in vienna. and they hated the nazis, for thoes of u who admire them. i would like to put u into a time machine send u there and upon ur return then chat with u.

  • what have a coupppppleeeee more there hope its german beer ya ritaaaaaaaard

  • you just proved your credibility. why dont you learn to spell "retard" ???

  • of course she was affraid to say somthing because at the time she didnt care who lived or died if she hung out with hitler! then she is to blame like all the rest of the pigs you cant take it back after the fact expecially after hangin out with HITLER for 15 years thats bull shit i wont forgive that feel sorry for me bull shit (to the media expecially) so fake

  • Rahavin1 is correct. This woman was astonishing. She lived well into her 90s and continued working to the end. She learned to scuba in her 70s in order to film her new inspiration, the underwater world. In her 70s she travelled throughout darkest Africa on her own, lived on the ground, was honoured by African governments and commissioned by Kodak and National Geographic.

An immensely courageous, talented and dedicated woman. And truthful, unlike those who now pervert history for gain.

  • thank you for saying this (her post war stuff), as youtube limits on postings prevented me.

She was a marvalous fimmaker. It is a real shame that people attempt to condem her based on her unfortunate placement in history.

At the same time, if such a great documentarian was not there to record this time in history, say, someone who was unable to capture the sentiment of the subject being filmed, then the world would not have a record of the evils of facism as it does because of Reifenstahl

  • anyone calling her a nazi should do a little research first. read her autobiography, check out her movies after 1936.

Consider: if you were a documentary film maker and you were commisioned by a dictator to film speaches and the olymics with a literally limitless budget... would you say no? I dont think any real artist or film maker would.

And despite what you may think, she was a cinematic genius and her films continue to effect film making today. that much is objective/ says nothing bias

  • There was one Jewish slur in the triumph of the Will; so she obviously had an idea of what Hitler was doing. #2 It was reported that she cried when he died, so it is safe to assume that she was aware in 1945 what the hell happened, and implicitly supported, or at least, was indifferent about it. Great film maker, no doubt. She was German, and her views were sympathetic to facist Germany, Im not gonna criticize her for that. I wrote a paper on her and specifically this movie, and defended it

  • Of course there were Jewish slurs in T of W. However, it was not until the 1937 or 1938 rallies that Hitler's anti-semitism was not just political. Reifenstahl wrote about having Jewish friends that did not even take him seriously at this time. Also, she did not work for Hitler out of personal desire, but because of more corersive reasons.

I also wrote a paper on her, and based on her memior, and supporting evidence, came up with a different conclusion on her beliefs on facism and antisemitism.

  • She loved Hitler, she worshipped him and you writing a paper means nothing since you seem to have no wisdom at all...

  • lol. sorry, personal insults have no meaning to me as rational points in debates. so piss off

  • Oh god her accent is horrorible!

  • Anti this anti that. The western allies have sure done good things since the war ended haven't they? You lot are just Brainwashed capitalists, who don't give a fuck for anyone, all we hear is NAZI NAZI NAZI, bollocks, the Reich was the only way and the allies new it.ZOG runs the way you live,I hope one enjoys it .HISTORY BOOKS ARE WRITTEN BY THE VICTORS NOT OFTEN THEY TELL THE TRUTH.HAIL THE FUHRER,LONG LIVE SACRED GERMANY..

  • You nutter

  • Dont lose the hope, but this women is clearly someone that turn like the wind its pathetic, you cant be neutral and get feared like that its called acting, fail and its even cut.

  • You believe her, eh? Some people are easy to get over on, I guess--I'm sure she knew, and she was unrepentant about making that piece of filth "Triumph" till the day she died

  • marlene dietrich, gemany's most famous female and anti-nazi there is, said riefenstahl was one - i don't think she'd lie about that. there's no excuses for this woman, even though she was talented at her job... she did do it at the cost of many lives and not only jews.

  • She was never convicted either for her alleged role as a propagandist or for the use of concentration camp inmates in her films. She also won more than 50 libel cases against people accusing her of knowledge of the Nazis' crimes. If she were alive today you'd be hearing from her lawyer.

  • Why do you bother writng this comment to me? I live in Holland, a free country - I can say whatever's on my mind. Same goes for Germany. If I'd be hearing from her lawyer haha, then how more obvious could it be this woman had something to hide? You know what, you don't know her and I don't either. All I know is that someone who deliberately chose to acqaint with Nazi's, is not right... she was right there, she's not innocent. And to spill some crocodile tears, it should get her zero sympathy.

  • If you lived in Germany, things would be a little different, you better believe it. Yeah sure, freedom of speech EXCEPT....

  • I don't care really. I've got nothing against Germans, they're nice people, very much like the Dutch. However, I could never live there, not among people who agree with this woman, who believe her... not after all that my family has been through on account of them, the nazi's. What do you mean with Except? My country has never compromised me in any way, it's just a great country haha.

  • ah i see, you're one of those neo-nazi kids... darling you have no idea what you're in, really no idea. i wish someone with some positivity would come into your life, i don't blame you - how can you blame a 20 year old for searching his/her identity? but you had better find a new one.

  • Both Dietrich and Riefenstahl were beautiful stars of German moviemaking industry. Of course they weren't too fond of each other, this is how it works with women. So I don't think we can rely on Dietrich's views on this matter.

  • i'm german too so i'm burdens with all the bad past of my land. but i think all the people in this time were brainwashed and they believed ( in this period) that the nazi- idea is right. in the beginning of the 1000 years of age- reich it was so logical and comprehensible that someone like hitler MUST come, no question about it so don't blame the people who grown in this season.without her, hollywood wouldn't be the same. be open-minded and reflective!

    thanks

  • Leni will always be the most importaint film maker of the 20th C even 85 years later her inventions in film making are being used.. what a waste of talent due to mindless liberal nobodies. Viva Leni

  • I would say she was close to that %#@$#% adolf

her body language seems to give her away at the end.

  • You know why I admire Leni Riefenstahl? Apart from her obvious genius in film making, she din't flip flop in her political views. So what if she was 'friendly" with Hitler? That was long before 1939. And don't lay your hatred of Hitler or Nazism (justified) on this poor talented woman!

  • She should have shot Hitler in the head.

  • she said that she couldn´t knew the terrible things which hitler has done.

    i believe her.

the most people could´t knew it, there was no tv-news, no magazine could write about it and no internet.hitler and some of his idiots could do what they want, top secret.i know that because my granmas and granpas tell me about this time

  • She's a Feminazi a real FEM-Nazi, She Nazi

  • she was an artist and extremely egozentric.. like so many people nowadays are egocentric and stupid but not artists. Who is guilty for all that shit what happened? 1st WW, World crisis, ignorance, dumbness, "proudness", too much intelligence without moral. But not Leni, she was not a "social" artist instead she was very introvertated. Nobody has to lover her but she should be respected als one of the best fotographers in the world.

  • These fucking "Google Ads" make Hitler look good! God damn it, what an annoyance!

  • Yeah....you've said IT....True ☺

It's already such a small screen You can switch it off though./

  • Fascinating woman any way you slice it.

  • casting stones?

  • Leni Riefenstahl cared about one thing.....Leni Riefenstahl....can you blame her? She was a surviver. Her tears are not real to me but I would like to master the art of survival as she did.

  • She is expaining how she was unable to save her brother from being sent to the eastern front which was sure death. He was killed in battle and those were real tears.

  • I believe you.

  • What tears? There are none. She is obviously faking her emotions and looking for a way off the studio set.

  • "survivor" is probably not the most appropriate word to use.

  • Pleaze stophen zie the lies about Leni und Adolf , like Herr Doctor Goebbels and Herr Himmler they ware good people ! Ze Fürher even had ze doggie ! This name wass Blondi ( like ze popband ) Und the Fürher never eat meat ! So much He loved ze animals ! Und ze concentration- camps were only schools to make ze poor people concentrate to their home- work ! Himmler wass the headteacher ! We all thank ze autobahn ( freeway ) to them ! Und Volkswagen ( ze Herbie ) ! Zieg Heill or is it heil ...

  • Very funny, indeed!

  • lmao. Best comment ive ever read.

  • She was brilliant regardless of her political involvement.

  • Eine große Frau !

    Eine große Künstlerin !

    Ein großer Mensch !

  • haha german people are funny

  • Who cares if she was or not? ....

  • true it doesnt matter now, shes dead.

she was before her time, filmmaker wise.

  • Has anyone seen her underwater films made in the late 60's early 70's? They are fantastic...She had a unique voice and was very talented, except for that whole being a Nazi thing.....

  • why?

  • and you are a stupid !

  • oh look a single digit iq man talking!:))))))))

  • She knew.

  • and you are a stupid !

  • Word.

  • In you are interested in her life- read her bio.

  • She did her job and she did it well. What's there to forgive or condemn? She had no role to play with the war or the genocide, in the sense that these things were out of her power. Even if she did agree with them, she is still entitled to her opinion. Same shit with Heidegger.

    A very touching interview too...

  • Her autobiography is THE book to read the encompasses the last century. The tales she tells about early filmmaking way before the nazis, dance, Nazis' chasing her around coffee tables later, She lived the life of five men by the time she was 25. An amazing read. A different time back then...media not like now...maybe she's like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness creature....representing the subconscious in all of us. Ok...that was a stretch.

  • She knew what was going on, don't believe her. Just because she was talented does not forgive her. Many great German artists left early on, she stayed because she believed in the cause. As her peers said of her in 1945, she was a NAZI whore.

  • (yawn) But she was brilliant

  • The whole nation stayed, is you want to do figures. Or, just about. So, is Leni more guilty than a 25 year old german soldier out in the field?

  • She was such a great film maker!

  • There was talk that she had hidden her Jewish past from Hitler and that she still aided the Nazi party with propaganda campaigns with her filmmaking. It's a puzzle. However, her cinematography and photographs are mini masterpieces.

  • When she was hired to work for the party she had other plans. Also, at that time, I don't believe she could have known about the Final Solution that was in the works. Germans brought into the camps at the end of the war to act as witnesses, who lived close to them had no idea what was going on in them.

Her life is extraordinary, no matter what we decide. Her autobio is extraordinary.

  • hey what's the name of the documentary featuring her? please repply, so that i can download it! thanks a lot!

  • The wonderful, horrible life of Leni Riefenstahl

  • she was a great film maker

  • crazy person, but a genius nevertheless.

  • What's crazy?
